  1. Just try the betapatches.

    Seriously.

Alot of good fixes to AI, performance, view distance along with a lot of other goodies.

And btw whats with that attitude of some ppl getting free stuff which would be DLC with other games companies (and then still worse, you know who I'm talking about), and still whining?

Seriously this "ARMA2 runs much worse than *mumble mumble unspecific blahblah* on MAXXX" talk is

    a) not a fair comparison as graphics is only one part of the equation and

    b) getting us nowhere.

If you want to help ARMA get better, take part in the beta testing and get repro missions up for your problems. And no "runz like da shiats" is not a proper bug report ;)

    Out.

  2. The main way I've been going "Dude! You should SO buy this game! It's awesome!" Is by using the "Everyone's a live player." catch. It goes something like this...

"So you're playing as a basic rifleman in a fire team. There's four of you. The three other guys in that fire team? All players. Your fire team is one of three in a squad. Everybody else in the squad, including the squad leader, is a player. There's multiple squads in the mission, and yep, they're ALL players.

Now, you're getting into a huge battle against enemies. I'll say it again. Even they are all players. -If you want. You can make them be crazy-real AIs if you only want to play with other people, not against.- But you're in this huge battle. Your radio guy calls HQ (again, actual players telling you where to go and what to do) and asks for an airstrike. You see this plane fly in, and completely decimate the other side. Player. The APCs you rode into the battle on? There's a team of players driving, gunning, and commanding that APC. The Artillery being rained down upon the now-dead enemy is player-run. Even the trucks bringing ammo to the artillery, refueling the aircraft, and replacing the tire on the humvee that crashed in front of you (driven by an idiot, BTW) are all players.

But you're not limited to being the 1-in-100 grunt. You can be the squad leader, the pilot, the APC gunner, the support guy, even the Battlefield Commander. Your choice. Or, you can do all that, on the other team.

Where else have you seen a non-mmo game have hundreds of players on each side, and still run butter-smooth? That's Arma, and it's freaking awesome."

Join a clan, then its like that, I already had the pleasure of witnessing and playing in this exact scenario (with AI on the other side) :bounce3:

  3. I also think it would be good to evaluate what was well and not so well received by the community in the latest beta patches, and wrap up a final 1.5 patch.

This would first give all the testers a new common ground to start from, as now many ppl are using different versions of the game, and secondly (probably more importantly) this would curb overoptimization on the side of BIS, as seen for the latest changes to AI behavior.

    Only my 0.02€ obviously.

  4. Hi Mando,

glad you're back and I hope your HD crash did not destroy too much of your data.

Regarding the ACE2 topic, I hope I didn't do you a disfavor by trying to motivate ppl to vote for a MMA integration into ACE2!

It's just that I think of MMA as an invaluable addition, especially for the flyboys 'n girls out there, just as ACE2 is for the ground branch (at least primarily in both cases).

To provide the best experience for everybody involved these two are just musthaves IMHO.

  5. Thank you mega-tons BIS for implementing (testing) objects in the VD-Fog. I thaught for a while i had Kju's draw distance addon running. :)

So far it works real good.

Beta 60141 was also best FPS wise i agree. Comparing however an empty map with this new long drawdistance i cant see any drop in FPS. Its more when things start happening. To me anyway.

Good find! Thanks BIS, this really ups the immersion when flying! :bounce3:

BTW, regarding the performance, for me the latest beta performs better than any before.

Did you compare a viewdistance limited scenario (where the additional trees etc. rendered in the latest beta patches play no role) vs. a scenario of "unlimited" VD?

I think only the former comparison is a fair one.

  6. @Defunkt:

    Thanks for the Info!

I understand and respect Mandos wishes.

Still I think the danger is that ACE and MMA develop the same functionality independently of one another and become defacto incompatible in the process (think 2 RWR's or 2 countermeasure systems).

This would be deplorable, as firstly MMA could save the ACE2 ppl a great amount of work (especially in the area of guided munitions, see zguba's post in the dev-heaven topic), and secondly this would prevent redundant development and making the community choose one or the other in the end, which would be a terrible waste IMHO .

So to make a long story short, even if Mando does not want his mod to be bundled with ACE2, assuring mutual compatibility would be beneficial for both parties in the long run IMO.

    YMMV obviously.

  7. It isn't exactly realistic in a military simulator to act as If dismemberment doesn't exist.

It matters If you blow there limbs off or not because dismemberment is a vital tool in phycological warfare. You're not only wounding/killing the enemy but you are doing it in such a way that ensures, If he is wounded, he will not be able to fight again. You are also causing phycological damage to the enemy because the idea of losing their limbs will constantly be on their mind.

These are the point of anti-personal mines, they often aren't intended to kill the person who triggers them, they are intended to stop him being a part of the war machine. Why shoot someone in the chest where they stand a chance of surviving and living to fight another day, when you can blow of their limbs and ensure they won't fight again.

At it's core it's a game, no one is dying, I want it to be realistic, so I want to be shown a real military simulation. I'm not gonig to shed tears for a bunch of pixels, but I want to see realism.

I also get tired of seeing the same animations over and over again, I shoot someone in the head with a barett sniper rifle, and they just slowly fall over. I've seen pictures of the bullet from one of those things split a person's head in two.

I've seen tank shells hit people in-game and all they do is fly into the air -_-.

Without dismemberment it is hard to show realism.

<sarcasm> Thank you for your input ! </sarcasm>

    @pufu:

    Nice, thx :)

  8. Hi Fincuan,

after a bit of testing I have to say: Great Mod, congratz:)

Maybe one tiny nitpick, after testing the russian pso scope for the AK107 the chevrons seem to be misaligned. Correct me if I am wrong but i think they should zero to 250 - 500 - 750m.

EDIT: I could be wrong, just read something about lower chevrons only being used beyond 1000m.

  9. Or maybe just cut out those red parts alltogether?

I think for most platforms (save maybe the fighters), like the A10, AH1Z and KA50 this would eliminate the unrealistic way of finding your opponent, while still providing info about what is in direct front of you.

This would simulate the pilot being able to spot stuff visually much further out than the current draw distance allows for most ppl.

One might even get rid of the IFF altogether, so that scanning the horizon and visual inspection of the target becomes a important task, before firing the first shot.
