i agree it would add to the moral dilemma and make me think more about my actions in game children are a part of any real war situation most of the time and taking them out of the equation has to effect the whole dynamic of the way you approach a situation probably why children were not discluded from vbs2 anyway i cant beleive some of the reasons people come up with for why it shouldnt be in arma2 your already killing people ingame i cant understand some of you all you ever hear about arma is how realistic it is and how its a simulations now i have a bunch of 12 year olds sayings its not its just a game. i hope the future direction bis take the arma franchise isnt directly effected by you guys otherwise i hope vbs becomes more affordable and we go seperate ways lol i dont want to deal with you lot

I personally would like to walk through a town with my platoon and have all the locals react depending on who they are women would gather their children and running indoors or thank us for saving them against the local warlords old people maybee looking out windows or children running down the side of the road curious about our vehicals or whatever starving people begging for food or something anyway.
i could understand bis looking at it from a legal standpoint but you guys are the reason they have too, sick people will be sick wether they have a game or not the goal of developers of simulations should be to make a game as realistic as possible for that type of game including the environments inwhich it is played out in. whoever thinks that soldiers in the army can handle having children in a war sim better than the public for whatever reason is a moron people are people im guessing the army would have more violent sickos than in the public, movies and books depect some of the craziest senarios you will ever see. As all living things are pricless in my mind why not just get this game banned all together or take out all living things so as to not offend anyone or to allow sick minded people to get their jollies off then you can shoot rocks and trees, not all sickos target kids some target women some men some animals some target trees and some love to shoot the bodies of dead people. In my opinion u cannot restrict the whole of society becuase there are crazy people that is not right and its not justice. anyway freedom is a good thing and i dont need my actions restricted by the fears of weak minded people thank you heh.

so far so good with the new beta patch no crashes other than when i used ramdrive i have 8gb of ram and had a 4gb ramdrive dont know if it was just some freak crash but i would like to continue using ramdrive becuase the gameplay was alot smoother liquidpinky what settings should are you using i know you like ramdrive too? i might have to buy a solid state drive.

i havnt tried to play this game in a week becuase of crashing problems today i see the new beta patch supposedly fixes the memory issue so i install and try to play and it wont show me any servers :(
-
im about to try the new beta ill let everyone know how it goes becuase my game would NEVER last more than 30 minutes without crashing.
-
Nvidea has new drivers as of the 30th of october 195.39 beta
im about to give them a try see if i still crash
-
heh im about to install the new doesnt seem to fix any of the problems stopping crashes or memory issues i guess its just a beta but something tells me im dreaming thinking there will be a fix anytime soon.
I just noticed nvidea has some new beta drivers 195.39 for my 285gtx released on the 30th of october ill give them a try looks like its got some fixes hopfully the kind i need.

well i had 2048 and just changed it to 2047 as you recommend and deleted my arma cfg file went into arma and video options then closed arma loaded up the newly created cfg and its still not reading the memory correct heres my shortcut
"C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\arma2.exe" -nosplash -world=empty -maxmem=2047 -cpucount=4

Love the game
i think jack and varry are on the money and i can garentee if bis want this solution fixed they would be working their ass off on it right now must be a pretty intensive fix its taking awhile, hopfully it isnt something that is directly inherent in the way this thing was built
i dont know about everyone else but if bis told me whats going on id be alot more satistfied than bumping into walls expecting to find a solution myself and guessing what the deal is but i guess they have bigger fish to fry than a consumer like me sitting here talking about a game i paid a mere $100 for compared to their investment. anyways good luck bis for all our sake :) i like your work otherwise, i know you europeaners are old school and are making some technical masterpeice cant wait till its complete.
im off to kick some ass in arma II hope i dont crash to quick cyas
-
thanks guys
dont know whats going on now i thought i had performance increase with the new values i put in manually i guess it might have been in my head coincidently i seemed to be crashing quicker and came up with the theory that its becuase im using all the memory up in one hit lol. anyway i guess when all the bugs are ironed out i can get stuck into actually enjoying the game the reason bought it & upgraded my pc
so far the only thing i can think of thats as frustrating as owning this game is watching a beyonce video clip and knowing that with all that ass shaking I wont ever be able to have a go at her.

cheapest investment will be ram and it will make a big difference in frame drops due to loads if you use ramdrive when you get it.
i dont know how good that videocard is ive never used one but if my pc had an I7 i would be laughing becuase i know ive had my core 2 quad q9550 run this game almost perfect maxed out at 1920 x 1080 with an overclock and my 285gtx
-
with all the crashing ive been having im starting to worry my power supply isnt enough for my pc my powersupply is 650w i have:
core 2 quad which is now overclocked
285gtx 2gb
8gb ram 4 x 2gb ddr2
2 hdd 7200rpm
a noctua cooler with 2 fans
some sites said i only need 400w which is bs cuase my computer would turn itself off when i had a 450w and less stuff in it and i was playing a game and in the heat of it.
i did this test http://educations.newegg.com/tool/psucalc/index.html
and it says i need a 605W power supply which seems more reasonable dont know if they are saying 605 when it should be 550 or 650 or if its spot on that would only leaves me with
45w not taking into account my specifc core 2 quad or the devices i have pluged into my usb ports like my mouse reciever/charger and my trackir and sometimes another hdd which is self powered but who knows. anyway i cant find max power usages on my components from the manufacturers tonight ill have another look tommorow for individual components and add them up. excuse my english and sentence structure im buggered good night lol

does the army get all these crashes happening during war excercises or just us mugs?
do they sign up to your forum to give you crash reports too lol?
-
Gabkicks try ramdisk if you havnt already
-
hey madus although what you say is true performance shouldnt get worse he needs a fix to the "video issues" he is now having that he didnt have before.

KKlown im abit confused my 2gb 285gtx vram is being recognised as
localVRAM=807262208;
nonlocalVRAM=807262208;
you suggest i manually change it to
localVRAM=2137620416;
nonlocalVRAM=2137620416;
I see shataan and others 2gb cards being detected at
localVRAM=2137620416;
nonlocalVRAM=2137620416;
doesnt 2gb (2048mb) = 2097152 kb
2048mb x 1024kb (per mb) = 2097152kb
you have an extra 2 digets too :(

Hi Liquidpinky yeah im using the symlink method.
and yeah i think it is strange too becuase it seems simlink should hide the fact youve done any alterations to the game in anyway (I doubt its coincedence becuase the server makes reference to the files ive moved to the ramdisk and says they are missing the correct key or something ive tried the server about 10 times over a week after reboots, all other servers are fine. Just a shame i cant play on the only cti server in my region.
maybee this server reads the link size as too small rather than the file size thats being linked and see a problem?
Ive been waiting to be allowed to post on the servers forum so i can ask them if its possible to fix it up becuase im using other servers of theirs and there isnt a problem. thanks again liquidpinky.
-
when i use default the game looks abit better but crashes alot quicker.
-
Im always in the market for a good war game and this game is setting the standard at the moment even though there is plenty of room for adjustments and improvments, apart from crashing to desktop all the time, arma not using all 8gb of ram i have, Ai being so stupid at times and from what i hear my core 2 quad isnt really being utilised as much as it could be then im happy with it, Its potentially the best war game ive played some moments it definalty is and others it pisses me off cuase of some issue that shouldnt be happening but if they iron out them kinks i can see this game being the best for years, i hope it becomes as popular as bf2 was so more servers pop up and more maps and updates keep me having fun.
-
I recommend using ramdisk its improved my game alot.
Thanks liquidpinky

seems to detect mine wrong too

Gigabyte - Ga-p35-s3
Core 2 quad q9550
8gb Ram (4 x 2gb G.skill 1100hz)
Sparkle 285gtx 2gb
Windows 7 RC 64bit & vista 32 (same issues on both)
Only way ive been able to not crash is to do the flush during gameplay
hold left shift and the minus key at the numeric pad then blind type flush works well for me even though its bloody annoying especially when you forget in the heat of battle and crash. To make use of as much RAM as possible in arma 2 in the last week ive been using ramdrive and putting files onto it as recommended by a guide i found on this forum somewhere and the game runs drastically better for me the only problem with that is my favourite server detects a problem and kicks me so i cant play cti unless i revert to playing sluggish again but every other server i try has no problems.
it would be good if bis could somehow get arma II to detect any possible ram sizes and maybee load files into ram in some kind of priority till the ram is fully utilised that would be alot better than how it stands now.
-
I have a sparkle 285gtx with 2gb vram and regularly crash to desktop without an error msg i press control alt and delete and find arma still running in processes if i flush the ram by pressing shift and the minus key next to the number pad and then blind typing flush during the game every 10 minutes i can play all night if i have my graphics settings on the highest it crashes within 5 minutes even though it was running perfectly smooth to start off with so i cant wait for the problem to be resolved. i looked in ARMA2.rpt and found this:
