I think I still have a copy of it. Yep, uploading as I type. I hope it's ok. Edit: Operation Cold Bore Quick Fix

    Arma 2 : OA beta build 84868

I played the first mission of the PMC campaign this morning and the guy was alive and well standing next to the destroyed SUV.

New ARMA3.com website with new Intel

The site looks fantastic. Good job BIS.
  4. I'm narrowing in on it slowly but surely. It's not perfect by any means, but I am pleased with the way it is turning out. I have learned a lot from this project and all your tips and suggestion. :p I've gone from a 800k high poly to this 9111 face low poly. My limit is 10k (minus the scope bi-pod and other attachments) and I still have at least 4 small rails to go and the bottom of the top rail where it meets the receiver and guard. I may have to add back in some faces around the holes where I am getting some ugly artifact up close. Looking at all the UV maps, I am wondering how on earth I am going to fit it all in a single map! Low Poly Render High Poly Render
  5. Ok guys I've got a question. I applied my normal map to the low poly mesh and there's a noticeable edge at the bottom of the magazine well caused by the difference in the subsurf on the high poly mesh. Should I add a few loops to make the low poly match the smooth rounded edge or just touch up the normal map? Low Poly Normal Map Applied
  6. For anyone that might be curious about normal map baking using floating geometry rather than a complete high poly mesh, this is a good example of its basic use. It's also a great network of sites that covers both Max and Blender. Here is one using a 'whole' high poly model.
  7. I used a shrink wrap modifier set to projection in Blender to get the floaters perpendicular, but this cage you speak of may be the key. I will have to see if Blender has a similar feature. It sounds like something that would stop back face from showing up where they are not wanted. As far as I know there is only a value to set bias and distance, but even at 0 these artifacts show up.
  8. I'm completely remodeling the hand guards due to some poor topology that showed up when doing detail work and subsrufing. I was wondering, do you guys have an opinion on modeling the insides of parts that could possibly be seen from the back faces in game. The hand guard is a prime example. Modeling the inside practically doubles the poly count, while a deeper extrude on the holes so that only the barrel can be seen might look odd as well. Also wanted to say that using floating geometry for a normal map bake is a disaster on a model like a rifle. I think that technique is best left to walls and other flats. It picks up the backs of the floaters and puts the "flipped normal" color on random parts of the model that are near. This was a real bummer to discover.
  9. Thanks for the insights DaSquad and Pufu. I'll PM you guys if you are not bothered by me, so as not to in-cur the wrath of a moderator. :p
  10. Thanks for the info, but at the moment what I could really use a tip on is UV mapping the damn rails! :D I have mapped rails twice previously, but I don't recall it being such a headache as it is this time.
  11. It's a mixture of both high poly and game model. It is all separated into small parts because I am going to try out xnormal for the first time and I'm still not really sure what will work well as a normal map feature and what wont, like sharp edges on a low poly and the rounded ones on a high poly. I'm also going to attempt using floating geometry for baking the normals for the first time. Thanks for the offer on the silencer.
  12. Another couple of WIP shots of my Remington MSR: 1 2 Maybe it will be finished before Arma3 :D

Got any other pics of the ammo pack? Are these Ok to model from? They are all I could find of a front and back view.

Help with building a monster computer.

I have not seen anyone mention the Z68 board and taking advantage of it's SSD caching ability. I have been reading about it and it seems like a perfect solution for Arma's texture loading. But since it has not been mentioned here, I am wondering why. I'm getting close to dropping some cash for such a set up. Will I be making a mistake? Sorry for the slight high-jack. I am under the impression that instead of having to install Arma on an SSD the z68 has a function to handle what goes on the solid state dirve and when. With this in mind, you could purchase a smaller SSD and get the same benefit, but for all games, not just Arma.

Might sound counter-intuitive, but install it on your HD and compare the results. Perhaps the SSD is faulty?

    ArmA3 Wishlist and Ideas

Chili dogs and beer... One time at Ft. Hood, after days of MREs we got a hot meal and it was chili dogs. Best goddamn chili dogs I have ever had to this day. There was no beer, but I'm throwing that in anyway. So yeah, I hope. Seriously though, I hope it is easier to mod ARMA3. I would like a mod tool that has an interface to set variables for a new weapon for instance. As a modder for other games, the need for scripting knowledge has always been a huge barrier for modding ARMA.
  19. Where did I ever get it in my head that R to T had something to do with having bomb craters or the ability to dig a hole so to speak?? I must have really mis-read something some place.

    ArmA 2 site hacked

Forgive me if this has been discussed already, but I'm curious about the seeker development. It's quite clear that the path lead to Scott Miller's date of birth, but what does the path itself mean. Why did it begin where it did? What was happening in the world just prior to the "Ten Rules of War" that is the origin of our beloved Mr. Miller? I think there must be something that links the beginning and the end besides war. It just doesn't make sense to me as it is now and I think there must be more to this. A blood line maybe? A plot device for (the) eventual campaign about how war has changed? Then again, maybe I am just over thinking this.

What places are you guys monitoring for possible evidence of a hack? I am on arma2, AAN, AH, AAI, OFPEC, YT. and the hackers profile page.
