I find it works best to give the ai as little orders as possible. combat mode danger engage at will all I use.

Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?

http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=3788 latest bios supports the FX6300, which is probably the best choice for that budget (vishera core is a bit faster than bulldozer) This cpu will improve performance, but still doesn't perform close to modern intel cpu's. If the bad performance is mainly multiplayer upgrading probably wont help much, unless you're playing on a very good server. you could overclock your cpu for some "free" performance. -
Arma and total war games have similar problems. Probably because they're doing pretty much the same thing. Luckily bohemia isn't pulling a "pre order for freeee day1 dlc"
-
It seems to be the same price everywhere. Here in europe it's actually cheaper than most games on launch. It's 45,- while Rome 2 is 55,-
-
I thought you can get a refund once or something. No experience with that myself, I dont do impulse buys unless it's dirt cheap.

Multiplayer runs poorly unless you have a good server with a good mission. upgrading wont help. In singleplayer a good cpu does help, you could look into overclocking your current cpu If you get something new, and you're not into overclocking I'd recommend a haswell quad + cheapish motherboard. The best performance can be had with a 4670K + z87 motherboard, overclocked. If you're looking for bang/buck the FX6300 is probably best. but agian, in multiplayer performance is often dictated by the server and the mission. -
Moderators are not part of BI, anyway, if you want a refund you'll have to contact steam support I guess, unless you got it in the BI store.

It'll start, might run with 500m viewdistance on 800x600 :P, in multiplayer the viewdistances and detail levels are set serverside, so it depends on that. You could try it at your friends place by logging in with your steam account, or use the family sharing thingy they put in beta, dunno if that last one will work. -
yeah, arma physx is cpu physx
-
lower object viewdistance to 1000m
-
If the problem is that it's trying to use the card you could go to the nvidia control panel and set the physX processor to cpu.
-
It's still valid, but since vista and up autodefragment there's no need to do it manually unless you've just patched something. Still, doesn't increase average fps, only reduces stutters.

try to keep the object distance low if you have performance problems, 1500m should be fine even for flying. -
Most of the features of 11.1 are also supported by nvidia with kepler and up, and the 11.1 update will probably be installed on most win7 systems via automatic updates. Anyway, I agree with windies, performance issues seem to be mostly with ai and scripting, dev time is probably better spent there.

Nothing micro about those stutters.

The parts you listed are kind of overkill, I'd recommend a 4670K (or 4930K, if you dont mind paying more for a little bit better, although some games scale better with cores.) and a gtx780 for graphics. Spending a lot on the motherboard isn't required either, a midrange board is plenty even for high overclocks, top end boards are for liquid nitrogen overclocks and quad gpu setups. as said before nothing runs arma on absolute max. -

I can keep draw distance at ridiculous levels as long as I keep object draw distance sensible (1.5-3k or something) -
Amd has a few cpu's with reasonable singlethreaded performance. The jaguar isn't one of them unfortunately. Power use and cost probably required it.

Softer LOD Transition (Not about the performance)
Leon86 replied to kayhase's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
yeah, depends on settings. -
the new consoles are pretty terrible in singlethreaded cpu performance, arma games wont run well unless they find a way around that.

Isn't it just warping because the fov is too large? is there a hardcoded minimum fov? -

The 7990 is a very powerful card, he misread it for a 7790. -
That doesn't mean there's no benefit to running a 64bit OS.

arma avoids hyperthreading, it made arma 2 stutter even when fps was fine. -
I would only recommend 32bit windows on systems with only 2GB memory.
