Just go away already with your fantasies.
It's not funny anymore.

As part of Nehaelm microarchitecture, SMT employ aggresive techiques to exploit the instruction-level parallelism to keep active the processing units. It is widely uncommon things to report:unless both's of uor processor have already been subject to some rapid voltage variation and/or a wrong microcode implementation.

Yep, sadly it doesn't seem to work for everyone which is a shame. It's worked for me on 3 different MBs and it worked for 2 of the guys I game with. As long as disabling HT via the BIOS doesn't interfere with your enjoyment, no worries.:)

Hi my friend,i have decided to write this thread because I tried all the solutions to solve this problem but I failed:(This is my Spec:
language="Italian";
adapter=-1;
3D_Performance=100000;
Resolution_Bpp=32;
Resolution_W=1280;
Resolution_H=1024;
refresh=60;
Render_W=1280;
Render_H=1024;
FSAA=3;
postFX=2;
HDRPrecision=8;
lastDeviceId="";
localVRAM=928452352;
nonlocalVRAM=349175807;
GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000;
GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=8;
Win XP 32 Bit
Asus Rampage Formula
8 GB Ram
Q6600 2.4 Ghz @3.8 Ghz
Power 750 w Corsair
Evga 295 GTX
Patch 1.4 with beta buildings 59210
I play Arma 2 at any resolution and any setting Ex (No AA, AA to very high,1680 x 1050,1280x1024,800x600 etc.) I have the same frame rate in campaign mode or 25 FPS...
In the Sp mission I can reach 60-80 FPS,why?
If i was CPU limited the SP,Editor and Campaign,should have the same fps,or not?
The campaign is very buggy but reading the forum, I know that some people with my same spec can play with better FPS,why?
Please help me...
U should notice a slightly difference using:
language="English";
And by the way better u set too these param @
GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1;
GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1;

What part of "agree to disagree" didn't you understand?Eth
I m saying, that: ARMA make improper use of multi-threading technology.

That's not what you said.At any rate lets just agree to disagree and not derail the thread any further.

Well. At this stage, october 2009 playing ARMA2 with HT on, will for sure permanently damage uor CPU ( if certain condition are meeted ).Are u serious?
-
Whatever, I'm not going to debate with you.The switch alleviates the problem from in A2 and does not require it to be disabled in the BIOS. If you want to gimp your PC, thats your business but stop making crap up like HT usage physically damaging the CPU for example.

Eth
HT doest damage any CPU.
Improper use of threading methodology DOES.
-
No, they shouldn't and you will NOT damage your CPU @ stock. That would only happen if you were running a very heavy OC (with inadequate cooling) and you managed to burn the CPU. It's truly appalling that one misinformed person makes an erroneous statement and all of a sudden it's accepted as fact. Do you really think that Intel sells a CPU that is so easily damaged by one of it's main selling points?Too many "experts" on the web these days who talk a lot of nonsense.
The main reason alot of OCers talk smack about HT is because it interferes with their ability to maintain high OC's, and subsequently, their ability to brag about their uber FPS in COD 4. i7's weren't designed to run @ 4.2 Ghz, thats why they can be unstable at that speed (HT only adds to this as it boosts the temperature).
Why did you even buy an i7 if you are going to turn HT off? You might as well have bought a C2Q.
The -cpucount switch will do EXACTLY the same thing without gimping your PC.
Eth
Look, first off u cant switch OFF HTT while u are running uor system, mainly because u had to wirte a flag in the PCI SPACE and then sequentially reboot it for make the change effective.
A simple restriction, which define and therefore simulate how many physical/logical core have the application at his disposal it's not enought for establish who wirte on the cache, because as we know if a thread wirte on the same cache line referenced by some other threads, the entry cache line is invalidated and as to be loaded again from the memory.
Things happening ppl Ocing and the game is taxing, having rendundant code which saturate the memory bandwidth, not only make trashing more cache but as Bulldogs said it hammering too the internal memory processor.
-
Not sure what you are trying to say but you are of course, WRONG.In my case the command line solves the problem completely.
I monitor my CPU all the time and if I remove the line, the CPU does indeed thrash but there is NO NEED to disable HT in the BIOS (Obviously, this is in my own experience so I can't speak for everyone).
As far as damaging my CPU, no chance of that unless it gets too hot. That's not likely in my case as hours of Prime doesn't put me over 55.
Eth
Assuming Im not talking with a FAE engineer and/or a tech from a related R&D research departement "sure why, not". 2 word's: resource contention.
-
All you need to do is add -cpucount=4 to your command line. No need to disable it in the BIOS anymore.Eth
On i7 platform MAKE SURE to disable HT.
Well. At this stage, october 2009 playing ARMA2 with HT on, will for sure permanently damage uor CPU ( if certain condition are meeted ).( and u Barso are in this parentheses )
Possibly....HT introduces a chance of cache thrashing (pretty high chance). Basically that means that your CPU is spiking as it's constantly hammering the cache which causes fragmented gameplay (stalls, fps spikes, etc)

I read that Arma 2 hate quad SLI. try disabling one of cards.Thanks for the suggestion, but.. as far I know the major issue is just the render method utilized by arma for drawing things on the traget area, in fact if u try grab a normal screen from the buffer u take only a black screenshoot rly :P
By the way, for make it simple that indicate on this specific setup that QUAD SLI is not really working.
I'm considering upgrading my com soon (Core i7, 4890), but not sure if I should tempt fate. I run a 9800 and E7300 Core2Duo and get 30-60 fps on high settings (1280x1024) so I should probably just stick with what I've got, last thing I want is to upgrade and lose performance.I suggest to keep it for a little longer.
See if u can wait for 2nd gen dx11 card instead seek for another one 9800 at really cheap price to put in SLI on a new monitor :P
-
Yeah well, I could just swtich of HT. I heard that improves performance. I could also clock the processor from 2.6 to 3,6 Ghz.Which probably will improve performance.
Im just abit worried since If Armed Assault 2 has the system requiremtnets or the performance draining as this high. How long will a new monster rig be good for games today?, a year?, 6 months?
Well. At this stage, october 2009 playing ARMA2 with HT on, will for sure permanently damage uor CPU ( if certain condition are meeted ). So.. Im pretty sure that Intel have some nice datasheet and/or technician which could explain how to implement such MULTI-ENTRY THREADING into the already existent app code.
U know, optimization is the key for the future :D
-
Some of the post inside this section seems some old fary tale, how it be.. missing quad-core support in addition with no multi-gpu code optimization, really sucks and perhaps kill our expectation.
I7 920 @4.00 (28k Vantage)
Quad SLI 295 @Stock (31k Vantage)
BloodRage
OCZ 1600 6GB
WD1550HLFS RAID (Read 231 MB/sec HD tune)
SSD OCZ (Read 215 MB/sec HD tune)
In term of performance, it's like u know, watching a blu-ray video on one old Athlon Thunderbird 800.
Lot of stuttering, I mean really a lot. So, I've decided to leave a post for the posterns.
Vanilla 1.04 - ARMA2_Build_59323 - PROPER - no matter what, the game as it is will just stutter, so please: chunk, serialize the texture or at least for the most used enable a cache folder.
Thanks

Mine resource are in line with the statement.
All uor "suggestions" ( not only in this thread ) are just non-sense.
