Arma 3: Confirmed features | info & discussion
MangoForLife replied to Maio's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Whatever new features ARMA3 is gonna have, 90% of public servers are going to be ruined by crappy MHQ\Teleport action. If people aren't afraid to die in this game, it doesen't matter how realistic BI makes it, or how good the AI are, it's gonna remain an arcade shooter for most of us. -
selecting weapons? how?
MangoForLife replied to topeira's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
When I start adding weapons and mags to my units in the Init box, do I have to Manually add Weapons & Mags to each unit 1 by 1?? Or is there a quicker way to add the same weapon loadout to a bunch of units all at once? -
Why are public games in ArmA II so terrible?
MangoForLife replied to Chunk3ym4n's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Endless Respawns + MHQ = No Teamwork. What do you expect?! - Random public players COULD play as a team if they were pushed towards it, but alas, we have to offer ALL the options in order to satisfy everyone.... (so how come in the end 90% of the games are dominated by this stupid easy game setting??) So enjoy, your No-Teamwork, MHQ Teleporting, Run & Gun who cares if i die, silly public play, because Arma2 IS SUCH A FREE GAME, EVERYONE gets to play just the way he likes......... -
Again, all you guys telling me to design my own mission.. run my own server.. and play the game the way I like it... ALONE?? No thanks. I understand u are fine with the way the multiplayer servers look right now.. I'm not. As I said before, 99% of the servers are Run & Gun arcade games. So what exactly has this freedom to create any mission we like accomplished for us?? - Of COURSE, if an Easy game mode is out there, people will be playing it.. I'm just asking for an executive decison to raise the bar a bit higher. Start by getting rid of the suck-ass MHQ.
-
There's nothing wrong with my title. Criticisem is a GOOD thing. And you are right, my post DOES hit the core of it all. Everyone here saying - "Well, open your own server.. or go on 1 that plays hardcore" - There are none! (1-3 servers/clans does not count in my eyes..) + I'm not opening my own dedicated server. ArmA will lose NOTHING of it's freedom and openess if such things as MHQ or endless respawns were taken away from it (or silly ass imaginary crossahairs!)... On the contrary, it would push towards more TEAMWORK, it would only make the game better, and the players more dedicated. This is not a military simulator. It's a shooter. Ok, the map is big. So you use the MHQ, ok the AI is good, so what?! U just respawn right back were you were. It shoulden't be this way.. where people are telling me - Open your own server, or join our clan.. Public play, which comprises 90% of what's being done online with the game, should be as challenging and team oriented as any exclusive hardcore clan of gamers. But I guess people HAVE GOTTEN USED to things the way they are... they can't imagine how much better it COULD (AND used!) to be... P.S - NOBODY'S PLAYING THIS GAME!.............(Any ideas why this is?)
-
Go Hardcore. As long as you have all these things available (MHQ, Endless Respawns, Unlocked Versions, Imaginary Crosshairs etc' etc' etc') MOST players will be using them. That's the way the game is today - And NOBODY'S PLAYING IT! I think the way forward is to make the game more CHALLENGING. I don't think that if all these silly things that i've mentioned were removed it would hurt the freedom of the game . Mission makers will still make missions, and people will still be able to find ways to have their Run & Gun fun. People LIKE a challenge. I've had the opportunity to be on servers that were full of people, playing on an easier setting, which then was switched to a harder setting. 99% of the players were like - "Oh! This is so much more fun! We don't have an MHQ now, we need to rely on eachother!" or "Lets work as a TEAM and Revive eachother!" Going into specifics with you guys, as i've learned, just confuses the issue. What balances could be made, what could be kept & what for sure needs to be gone I agree is a matter for detailed analysis, ok not everyone wants it as hardcore as me. But imo the way forward is DEFINETLY to make ArmA HARDER and more CHALLENGING. If we WANT more people to play this game... And all you guys who think things are fine the way they are now, who ENJOY being part of this small exclusive community, or who think that ALOT of people ARE playing ArmA2... You and me just have a different outlook on life.
-
To all those who tell me to switch off the crosshairs or play in a different server or join a clan or design my own mission or buy a new computer and run my own private server or stop complaining or only play singleplayer or people who think I'm a noob and think that ArmA2 is great the way it is.... I would like to hear why NO ONE'S PLAYING THIS GAME! Imho, It's because the community are given free license to create any game mode they like, which IN THEORY is a nice idea! - But in practice what we get is Run & Gun games being played above anything else = No Teamplay = No fun = No players. I think letting players decide what to play hasen't proven itself, people will ALWAYS take the easy "fun" game IF IT'S THERE. BIS should take a good look at why nobody's playing their game, I say - Go Nazi on our asses! - Let ArmA2 get a reputation for being REALLY hardcore. What have you got to lose?? The 300 people who are online weekdays? Or the extra 200 on Sundays? And all you people who ENJOY being part of this very private club called the "Arma Community" - I am only saying this because I want MORE PEOPLE to play this game. And right now, the way I see it, no 1 is.
-
- BIS is wasting their time concentrating efforts on AI development, the FUTURE is more HUMAN players on a server. Nobody WANTS to play against AI. It's just that the map is EMPTY. - Get rid of those silly imaginary Crossahairs. Wtf. - Make it IMPOSSIBLE to use any sort of MHQ/Teleporting around the map. Why did you design such a beautifull map in the first place?! - Respawns/Lives should be restricted & limited. On all game modes. THAT'S Realism. The future of ArmA shoulden't neccaserally be left in the hands of the Community. There COULD be a better balance. All I see the "community" doing is playing Run & Gun Evolution and Domination - It was pretty bad in Arma 1, I think it's gottten worse in Arma 2. Sure there's some clans playing on closed servers, and there's mission makers galore... But 99% of people online are playing suck ass teleporting/respawning bullshit. JUST LIKE Call of Duty. Most of you will tell me that it's not BIS's bussiness. I think they should wake up, stop catering to the lowest denominator, and take SOME of the reins back into their hands and AWAY from the community. Right now the majority of what's ACTUALLY BEING DONE with their game has nothing to do with "Realism" or "Tactics"... Run & Gun all the way.
-
At the least.... ( and if I may suggest, as a veteren Evo player, don't put respawnable choppers and vehicles in there.. let people work and have something challenging, in old Evo Blue the LB's were constantly respawning and people were just taking off and flying on their own. Try to push the players to work as a team.. Don't leave the decision in their hands.)

Guys, I'm not intrested in the endless missions and numorous clans I can join. I'm talking about what can be done on the public servers. Sorry, but I think this sillyness with Arma being an open ended game where everyone can design his own mission just hurt the game. BIS could have done better with imposing some restrictions (Respawns, MHQ, + get rid of those stupid imaginary Crossahairs!.. etc') - U leave it open ended like it is now and all u get is people running around JUST LIKE in Cod, Teleporting, Respawning endlessly etc' etc' - Go online and see for yourselves. Yeah, I don't know anything about scripting, but I feel BIS could have sacrifiecd some of the so called "freedom" of their game in order to get rid of all the aforementioned crap. What can I say... If BIS people are happy to see all these run & gun game modes rule 99% of what's being played online, I wish them all the best. I think it's outrageous that a game with such great potential is going to waste. And please don't suggest I join a Clan, open my own server, or go online and play the version I prefer... ALONE...
-
Exactly. All these games, Evolution, Domination... Theyr'e TOO EASY. And then u add suck-a** MHQ to the mix... I kinda feel sorry for the enemy AI. They have no chance whatsoever. + Eggbeast, I am not intrested in playing in a Clan. My whole argument is that BIS should take steps to make the game more naturally team oriented - REMOVE MHQ AND ENDLESS RESPAWNS. It's as simple as that. We don't need admins kicking people, we need people to have NO CHOICE but stick together, because if they die they are off the server.
-
My whole point is that people would play and enjoy whatever is HANDED TO THEM. Someone higher up then mission makers and server admins and players, (BIS...), should wake up and realize just how much all this Teleporting and Endless respawning is ruining what could have been a great realistic experience. Why go to all the trouble of making a huge beautifull map that gives the player the feeling of a big wide world if 90% of the people actually playing your game are just gonna teleport straight back into the action like in COD? I can never understand why we have to cater to LOWEST denominator...:j: And what for?! - NO ONE'S PLAYING ARMA2 ANYHOW!
-
Of course I can. This is what I'm saying. I CAN imagine ArmA without ANY Respawn or MHQ. It would JUST BE A GIVEN. Yea, people would have to drive around the map longer and would have to rely on pilots and on TEAMWORK to keep them alive. As simple as that. This could be a Key decision BI COULD HAVE taken, if they had wanted to put their game head & shoulders above any other game in the realism department. Like Murklor said, Teamwork is the ESSENTIAL component in the realism feeling you get from a game. BI could have just gotten rid of any sort of teleport option, we all know that MHQ = Bye-Bye teamwork. (I feel silly even explaining why TELEPORTING shoulden't be possible in a game like ArmA.) Everyone is very lax about this, saying - "Oh, but just don't use it.. or play in a server without it.." - I don't think people are AWARE how much this game has been ruined by MHQ. And it's EVERYWHERE.
-
No. I think the problem should be delt with at the source. BIS. Why do they think that making a "Realistic" "Simulator" should include an option to Respawn?? (not to mention "Teleport") The server admins and mission makers aren't to blame, they just take the easy way out, since it's available, in order to "Please" everyone. Or so they see it. Try to be Imaginative, have some vision.. Instead of respawning - NO respawn. It could be a TALKING POINT.. (I'm speaking to any BIS developer reading this) - "Man, have you played that game where you die once and your'e out of the game?? It's soooo hardcore, you gotta try it!" "Have you tried that game where people take it really slow & build things up through real teamwork?! Because if you don't you just die and your'e off the server.. That game is so amazing, EVERYONE playing there is SCARED to get killed! - IT'S JUST LIKE REAL LIFE!" - "Oh, and you don't even need to join a clan or something to feel that sort of realism.. It's just the way the game is set, even on public servers!" We all know that a good game is not REALLY about the graphics or the engine or the sounds or all that other stuff... It's about that something special in the gameplay that makes it stand out - Something CHALLENGING that you need to work hard to get good at, Arma COULD be like that. Right now it's just another shooter, that HINTS at something great. :j:
-
People are sheep. They go with whatever's handed down to them. Iv'e been on public servers where games were changed in the middle to be more Hardcore and suddenly everyone was like - "Oh! This is sooooo much more challenging and fun!" - But if you give people an easy way out, they always will take it. It's just human nature. But all those people, as the clich'e goes, should go play COD and leave ArmA to patient more serious players, who aren't anxious to Shoot & Die-Respawn & Shoot & Die again. There's enough games like that. Arma's SUPPOSED to be different.
