Maybe I overlooked something, but to me it looks like 2 paragraphs where he only mentions some problems in friendly AI and that's it. I don't know where did you read this...
They are saying that this product is lacking in almost everything that makes a game a good one. From stupid mission design, over dumb AI to unspectacular mise-en-scène and way too cool marines (vicarious embarrassment is an expression Gamestar used in their pre-test) is all that this game offers. Atleast they find the coop-part to be ok, but you know, there is a distance between something is ok and something is outstanding....but probably not in that "review".
-
Truth... But BIS didn't suddenly remove support for the game and move on to the next P.O.SBecause they just can't. It usually takes them few years of patching to make the game at least slightly playable, while hated Dragon Rising is very well playable even in 1.0 version.

I don't know if it's already here, but I don't think so:).

And it would be quite a valid point...

Edit: Wait, what? When did this happen? http://community.codemasters.com/forum/general-discussion-1335/460865-pc-retail-versions-uk-still-not-able-pre-order.html#post7003182This already started with F1 2010 and I think it's the same with Dirt 3 and future titles.

I thought it was a good thing when games got delayed, as it allowed them to resolve whatever caused said delay. This looks more like some distribution problem, so I don't expect any fixes in US version...

video or it never happened.Right now I don't know which video showed it clearly, but you can see it in some parts of this one:
for example 2:22...
Of course it's easier to stop and issue commands while staying still, it's the same for OFP or ArmAs. That's why most videos show it that way.
-
On EVERY RR video I saw, the user had to stop to issue orders, just like in DR...That just means you didn't see enough of them. You can move while giving orders in Red River.
-
My guess is something new about Carrier Command.

One thing that stood out for me with DR, and it would appear the same in RR, is how the bizarre lighting makes it extremely difficult to distinguish between the infantry of both sides...I think it will be better in RR. In DR it was caused by very strong color filters. In RR there is a different postprocessing system and these filter are nowhere near DR ones.

How bout that background image. That has to be a placeholder image surely :butbut:They obviously have some nice skyboxes this time. Check out these screens:

And there are some on the website, like this one:

Graphics looks definitely like step up, especially in terms of colors and art direction overall. Hard to judge a gameplay, because most of us haven't seen much yet.

I don't care about 60 000km view distance if everything look pale and flat. Nice graphics isn't about numbers. Not for me anyway. It's more about design.Well, maybe it's because Outerra is not a game, it's an engine...

Guys from Outerra are making their own tree generator and I must say, it looks pretty impressive so far. Check it out...

You all think that 14 year olds don't play arma2? I know more people around the 14-17 age marks playing things like ArmA II, JCOVE and such than I do ones that play DR and Rainbow and all that genre.Yeah, I share the same impression. Actualy, I already wrote it here:
Small offtopic, cause I'm a bit tired of the elitism of this community and animosity and disregard for different genres and people enjoying them...Guys, admit it, ArmA and OFP:CWC are just games...more realistic than Dragon Rising, but still games. you are not "warriors" when you play ArmA, you are just gamers playing with virtual toys.
The fact you like certain genre of game doesn't make you better, more mature or more inteligent than someone who likes different genre (even if it's CoD). Actually, I think many people sticking with very complex games like ArmA are kids and teenagers, cause lot of older people just don't have a time for these time consuming games.
I see it on myself. When I was in the high school, we all spent lot of hours in the first OFP. Now me and my friends just don't have a time and patience, many of us have families and while I still enjoy more complex games, I'm almost alone. Simply, the older we are, the more arcade and less time consuming games we play, opposite progress is very rare (at least when considering normal people, not nolife nerds living with mom).

Hmmm so you claimed you get 10 FPS playing Dragon Rising at 800x600 res, all low settings, but now your PC's framerate is miraculously twice as fast when you play ArmA2...One might be inclined to suggest that you my good Sir are a masterful prevaricator.
You would be surprised, but it's pretty possible. I have singlecore Pentium as well and I have same experience. For example DR's Island War is really hardware consuming (requires good CPU), so 10 fps on Pentium 4 are quite normal. As much as 30 fps in ArmA 2, when playing with editor or some basic mission without hundreds of enemies.

...In the in list it states freelook but in the out list it states no driving or piloting of vehicles. The entire campain is played as a marine fireteam and the only times that you are in a vehicle is when you are being transported to the AO.:(You are wrong. The only thing listed is "Helicopter Piloting, Tank and APC Driving". Driving of normal vehicles was confirmed.
-
I'm really not surprised by how sneaky CM operates when it comes to a OFPDR game. One of the biggest features that people asked for was freelook in vehicles. So for OFPDR RR CM announces that freelook is in while a few days before that it was confirmed that there is no driving or piloting of vehicles. So CM want praise for giving us the ability to turn our heads while sitting in the cargo of a helicopter or in the back of a jeep. :icon_eek::icon_eek:Well done CM, well done.FPDRYou can drive in RR, but it's limited to jeeps, trucks, maybe some buggy...
-
They clearly stated it won't be a milsim, but a tactical shooter. That quote you mentioned was made by some console magazine...
-
...just before DR's release...In this time it was pretty much clear what type of game is DR going to be. All those "promises" made by Clive Lindop and former team in early stages of development were already proved as false in this stage.
-
I really wonder how many of those who "did not like it" actually played it. All that crap like "it's not worth 3 bucks" looks more like blind hatred than actual experience. It's definitely not that bad. It's not the best game I've ever played, but it's not bad either.
For example, playing campaign in coop on hardcore is fun. Really, there are some very good missions. And what's very pleasant, you don't have to worry about non-functional scripting, AI not working and other game breaking bugs, even with 1.0 version of the game. If you don't expect milsim, it's very well playable and entertaining. Definitely much better than campaign of first ArmA, for example.

RR is about USMC from the very beginning.

It definitely doesn't take 15 rounds to kill someone 100 metres away. Even if you don't upgrade your character. It's difficult to hit someone in the distance with burst/full auto fire, but if you swith to semi auto, it's really not a problem...
