yea agreed. i literally don't know what it's trying to tell me in some cases :D and i have a small request for the launcher. i recently started using it and i have to say that i really like it. it's simple and effective. just what is needed. and while combining workshop addons and manually installed ones is already pretty convenient, i would really like to see the launcher detect @ folders like the ingame expansion menu does. that way all addons, workshop or not, could be in one list. i mean it might sound like a small thing but seeing how the game already is able to detect @ folders i'd say it's a must to add this. it would make this thing pretty much perfect in my opinion. i'm usually not the kind of guy who uses launchers since they are very cluttered and unintuitive most of the time but this thing is simply convenient as fuck so i have no choice ;) so please make it perfect yes i had the same thing happen to me and a friend yesterday. i happened in every mission we tried. i slowly cycled thropugh smaller and smaller missions on smaller and smaller terrains to track it down but the conclusion was that it'S the game itself. it literally makes it unplayable and broken. i will test the same with the stable build today to see if it's the dev branch. i hope this doesn't persist since it's as sever as it gets.

Weapon Inertia & Sway Feedback (dev branch)
bad benson replied to solzenicyn's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
agreed. i'd also like to see some kidn of representation for when you just hold the weapon without any sights. maybe some representation on the crosshair although that would not help for playing without it. i agree about what someone said earlier that now in contrast it looks a bit robotic when turning the weapon when it's just normal in your hands. maybe a slight camera shift is needed here. -
Fatigue Feedback (dev branch)
bad benson replied to solzenicyn's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
what i'm saying is that there is a difference between being out of breath and being generally tired or exhausted from having travelled long distances with lots of gear. being out of breath influences your aiming ability, being tired makes you slower. i'm not talking about adding more ingame effects. i'm talking about the different effects different circumstances have on you and should have on you ingame. i just find it immersion breaking to not be able to aim properly when being suddenly engaged eventhough i managed my fatigue (i do lower my gun) while travelling. it feels unrealistic and illogical. i totally get the concept of penalizing run and gun when it comes to sprinting because it makes sense due to being out of breath. jogging though is something you do with controlled breathing in a uniform manner over longer periods of time. you might take deep breaths too while doing it but it's different from the sudden hyper recovery breathing after a sprint. that's why it shouldn't cause the same amount of sway as sprinting. i just feel a disconnect from the character when its behavior doesn't match the circumstances. i guess it would make more sense if being fatigued over a long period of time would only slow you down more than increasing your sway. and sprinting the opposite way. should be possible depending on how tied together sway and change of anim speed are.- 1935 replies

Fatigue Feedback (dev branch)
bad benson replied to solzenicyn's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
exactly my point. it makes no sense to me that the type of fatigue effects you get from sprinting are the same as moving in a moderate speed for a long time. to me these are different types of fatigue if you want to call it that. just based on common sense i would say in real life you would have different effects when you jog for a while than you would from doing a sprint. it's too much of a general fatigue to feel logical too me.- 1935 replies

Fatigue Feedback (dev branch)
bad benson replied to solzenicyn's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
i was carrying only a rifle (not even my pistol) after having dropped my backpack and grenades after being too annoyed by the sway. i wasn't talking about getting rid of fatigue but changing how it works.. the main problem seems to be the way recovery is set up. i also think that your theory that some type of realism equals good design and logical behavior is kind of ridiculous. if you want to walk everywhere for immersion, fine. but the main way of moving about in this game is jogging and the way it's penalized is simply too much. just faster recovery would already make it much better. it's not realistic at all to be unable to aim for this amount of time when getting into an ambush after jogging to the AO. sure, make me jog slower, but the way sway is influenced by all this atm is just bad. that's just my opinion as yours is yours. don't tell me this is good because it's "realistic". because it's not. it's way too simple. another thing i could think of is having increased sway not 100% tied to fatigue but instead only having it influence how long it takes for your aim to steady once you got your sights up. like having a set max time to recover. that way you wouldn't stand there looking at your gun spaze out, going prone to recover, aim again and see if it's better, and repeat. it's idiotic.- 1935 replies

Fatigue Feedback (dev branch)
bad benson replied to solzenicyn's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
there's a few problems i have with the fatigue system. i really dig that it's there at all but some things just make no sense. 1. normal movement aside from sprinting fatigues you way too fast. this really becomes a problem when you have to move in a firefight even if just a few meters and frequently. it's ridiculous what amount of movement causes your sway to go up so much. simply annoying. what i'd like to see as a general concept is having travelling over long distances impact you long term so you can combat it with breaks and resting periods. short distances however should not have such a big impact. even when sprinting i think short bursts should not cause such a huge penalty. i want vehicles to be needed and all that but i'm really annoyed by having to wait for crazy gun shaking to stop when engaging just because i ran from cover to cover. makes it incredibly tedious and undynamic. it feels to me like there are some more layers of depth needed. another example is going uphill. i know it's realistic to get more fatigued from that but right now you are just totally at the mercy of the system. it makes not much sense to have your body adapt to the slope by going much slower but also have a fatigue penalty that feels like it's based on you going uphill the same speed as you would on even ground. that means there needs to be a more dynamic system based on movement speed and fatigue as seperate factors. for example. having a huge load on your back should slow you down more than it fatigues you when moving at normal speed (jog). so these two factors should be not totally tied to eachother (not sure how exactly it works now). that would make people with mroe load less agile but get rid of the annoying super fast increased sway. 2. as mentioned before, there needs to be an indicator for better stamina management. this is especially needed with a system that makes not much sense in some cases and might be less needed when some tweaks are applied.- 1935 replies

super useful. thx for taking the time to make this. -
agreed. i think the list dies out to fast after ww2. there's always shit hitting the fan somewhere. although i personally don't need a real real conflict. i mean arma 2 showed that some semi made up thing can get scary close to reality real fast.

i actually like this idea. all that would be needed is some type of global HUD toggle key. that would in general be useful too. you could play plain if you want to at any tiem and get the info you need by the press of a button.

while i agree that it might not be realistic to have the bullet literally push you back i think it's the best way to get a satifying effect. i don't really care why people drop exactly since it will never be accurately simulated anyways. it's more about visuals. and the footage of people being shot that i saw usually makes them fall back into the direction the bullet is flying. yes people don't literally fly but i think while the spasm theory is valid, it is more likely to fall back from a bullet since there is a force not a big one but i don't see why you would for example fall into a knife you just got stabbed with unless you instantly die. call it reflex, shock reaction or whatever. i think bullet force is the way to go to create satisfying representative effect. it's like getting stabbed with a very thin spear if you take the case of the bullet just passing through. i think the body feels where it's getting hit from and instinctively moves away from that direction. another thing that i'd love to see is having the momentum of running taken into account. or any animation in general. it would be great to have a smooth blend into the ragdoll in general. that alone would make it much more believeable. also the twitch, if it can't be tweaked properly, might aswell go since it looks shit. i'd rather have some prefabricated hit gestures that actually look good than this procedural bad looking approach.

MRT Accessory Functions

or you could add a little timer between key strokes so when you just cycle through you get no blinking but, if there was enough time between key presses you would have it turn on. just an idea. -

The CSAT Modification Project (Release)
bad benson replied to theevancat's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
don't worry about it. it's just a suggestion. i've been playing more on chernarus lately and was having that thought since i really like their look and would love them as generic woodland enemies no matter if CSAT being as far as eastern europe would make sense or not. keep it up. i'm not a future setting hater but i can't stand the look of default csat so this addon really kidna fixed the game for me. thx a lot! -

what's with the general statements about "the community" anyways? what the fuck do some people they know? there's more going on than some drama about popular mods. many people are modding in their own circles where issues like this are non existent. and the views and sensitivities are as different as they come. if some people have to use the main channels just to get more attention then they better deal with the consequences, if they behave like assholes. no one in their right mind would support locking down of knowledge or anything. OS is just upset and overreacting. it's really low to take his situational reaction as an example of his or anyone's behavior. HJ has been talking shit about him from the start. what's with that? that for me is the most/only relevant part. is that how you want "the community" to be? is that your vision of sharing? THAT is pathetic. i'd really prefer random people not constantly drop turds on everyone who makes mods. where is the forums ule against talking out your ass? what makes you think that? what's with all the frustrated people and doomsday comments?! do you guys ever ask on the forums? do you ever try to make friends with people with similar interests? do you ever ask people for knowledge? don't cry that no one is throwing things after you... being dicks to each other surely won't change what you complain about.. -

and that is exactly the wrong reaction and totally would justify the guys stance who redistributed your work. why would you not want people looking at your configs? that is how everyone (EVERYONE) learns things. be it arma 3 vanilla configs or configs from other modders. the only problem i see with the guy you had trouble with is very bad attitude and an intrusive way of distributing his minor changes to your work. if you also have a problem with him and others learning from your work then you only contribute to his view that all/most modders are not only protective about their individual work (with good right) but also the know how that is needed to do the creative part. while that would not make his view true, since there are many different modders with different views, you would set a bad example. -

it'S true that some people have the concern of stuff simply being taken. and i agree that that is not at all a SWS specific thing. but i think as several examples showed, the real problem is not "stealing" as some people call it but redistribution of entire things. something that is totally out of place here on the forums and the community sites and yet suddenly is supposed to be no big deal when it comes to SWS...nope. if that was the only thing that happened then i think the outrage would've been not nearly as big. i don't know if you really followed the blastcore thing but the guy redistributing was talking badly about OS the whole time and always seeming to see a right for him to not just fix the thing but take it over. it's pretty clear if you read what he himself writes that he doesn't understand the concept of making something yourself. i personally would not have reacted to it at all if it would've been just a technical problem or pure ignorance. -
i'm glad they did. they are improved a lot, eventhough they look still robotic at many times, which is btw also due to animations, namely having the weapon up most of the time as if they are actually aiming. especially in close quarters are much better due to their new found reflexes as opposed to waiting prone in the middle of hte street for certain death. i'd take that plus a caching script over a 200+ AI mission just for the fuck of it any day. about the thread. i'm not quite sure which direction they are heading overall so i'm not quite sure but i like the improvements they made and i wish to see more of them. AI using houses in a simple way (aka being able to search for players inside houses). as mentioned above, physics are still a WIP sadly. eventhough it sucks having proper shooting mechanics entirely moved to a DLC instead of a patch (or the "final" game for that matter :p) i'm happy to know that there will be stuff to look forward to that may make the game seem more polished/finished. other things i'm too lazy to think of right now.

exactly my view. while i can understand concerns about Valve, i don't think they are realistic. at least when it comes to normal sized addons. who knows about bigger things that could make money? someone brought up dayZ as an example. -

so you got some kind of love for the ignorant and jsut want them to be happy? :p uhm what? just because i was mocking the ingame button fetish doesn't mean i was saying game integration has no point at all. don't get ahead of yourself. the single most useful feature that the workshop could have is direct addon download from servers upon joining without/with quick game restart. i don't see that feature and i will be happy when/if i see it, honestly. i'd love that as a modder (finally playing my own mods on random servers) and a user (lazy). so right now there is no advantage except download numbers. my whole point was exactly the opposite of what you just said i said. at this point there is nothing that makes this more than a choice with added trouble. BUT. blastcore seems like it was handled fast and well. BUT². this was only possible based on the community "mechanics" in place. so as i said. SWS has to be fully community integrated (see what i did? ;)) to succeed. i was just ridiculing this point of view that SWS is so amazing and that justifies the problems it might have because it's so unpersonal since so far there are no special features really that other things don't have. only minor things maybe. the current type of integration is more like a design. like you can like the touch and feel of apple products and UIs. the needs of users and modders go far beyond that though. and don't get me wrong. i will probably upload stuff on SWS soon. probably based on what just happened there. -

well in the case of blastcore it seems like it kind of resolved. it now has been changed to a replacement config upon Dwarden's request or something. sadly HJ is not showing any understanding of what the issue is and keeps a pretty sarcastic and respectless tone towards OS. i don't get it. i haven't seen one case of him saying something positive and thankful towards OS and yet he seems to really enjoy the attention made possible by his work. very twisted individual..
