  1. Nice idea, currently I can load up the large backpack with a Javelin/Stinger/etc launcher and four mags for my primary rifle. Then I place two javelin/whatever takes six slots rockets in my main inventory, so all slots are full.

In order to use my primary rifle I have to drop the backpack to load a mag in, when quite clearly there is one already in place but empty.

It would be nice to not have to rely on my sidearm while moving from place to place until I use up one of the Javelins up, that preloaded mag would come in handy for when I get jumped out in the open.

This isn't always a problem as I tend to favour RPG-7s or MAAWS anyway and when teamed up with another player to share ammo it is fine, I just found it to be a shortfall of trying to lone wolf with one of the larger launchers or try to be effective as an AA soldier.

  2. Using the current 72716 Beta, which gave me a pretty decent performance boost to say the least. :)

    Game settings:

    Texture Detail= very high

    Video Memory= very high

    anisotropic filtering= very high

    antialiasing= normal

    terrain detail= very high

    object detail= very high

    shadow detail= very high

    post processing= low

    screen resolution= 1920x1200

    3d resolution = 2400x1500 (125%)

    visibility= 4750

    aspect ratio= 16:10

    vsync = on

    OS = Vista Ultimate 64

    Avg frames (FPS) = 31

  3. I am sure you can lock a key on the G15, I have done it a while back with HAWX while using a head mouse app for free lock. Can't for the life of me remember how though.

EDIT, in the dropdown list for the G key you will find repeat option, under that there is a toggle function. All you then do is toggle the chosen key on or off.

  4. I tried this but is air taxi a fixed option? Or just a random task? Because all I ever got was tasks like "climb to this height" etc etc ... is it setup that i can simply select "taxi" and then go taxing Ai around for as long as i like?

Im looking for something that is purely that task.

Which exact type is it that you refer too?

It is just random, but it is pretty much the only mission you get except evasion with transport helis. The climb to etc missions are just side mission and can trigger during air taxi mission or the evasion.

  5. As this was a "sort of" request, not a mission, nor a scripting specific post I thought best to keep it in general, please move if that was a wrong choice :)

    Hi,

Im trying to find anything remotely similar to a mission or script that deals with you as the pilot of a Heli, where you have to drop and pick up AI and be a general ferrying troops around all-day dogs body, they auto load and get out where you drop them (rinse & repeat).

All I seem to find is focused on infantry calling AI heli pick ups but not the other way around.

I have searched advance/here/youtube/ofpec and cant seem to find anything of that nature (well as far as my multiple attempts and keyword phrase and and wording has got me so far).

Can anyone link a URL to anything remotely on the lines of what im asking, becuase I really just couldn't see anything. Even if its a mission that has user picking up AI as only part of it that I can at least have a look at.

Ive looked at the bootcamp but it was a little bit  script wise, so anything thats similar to heli pick up in bootcamp but, isnt that.

    Any links are welcome.

Go into single player Armoury and chose a transport heli, then air taxi will be your fate.

You will also unlock items while doing so. ;)

  6. I agree! And I'll note that the real world military just loves handing out achievements. The steam achievements are wrong in content, "Shoot 100 seagulls" is not what the game is about. "Revive a team-mate under fire" would be better or even "Drag a team-mate to safety who is subsequently revived by a medic."

There could easily be achievements for co-ordinated attacks like IR marker and laser marker and the like as well. The goal would be achievements that fit ArmA, not a mindless import of achievements from some other game.

"Work together as a team": Complete a mission while staying within 50m of your group leader.

If done properly the achievement system would help new players understand what they are meant to do and then reward them for doing it.

Formarly myself being a staunch hater of achievement, "congratulations you managed to tie your shoelaces" etc, I have actually been sold on the idea now.

If done properly then maybe it could add something worthwhile to the game other than some pointless drivel to pad your epeen.

  7. I know a tonne of threads are around discussing the performance issues of A2; I've had the game since it was released and been on these forums likewise.

However, there's so many threads the search function isn't super useful for this topic so...

    My system specs are:

    i7 oc to 3.4ghz

    6GB ram

    W7 64bit

    ati 4850

I've NEVER been able to run Arma 2 to an acceptable standard. I've been able to play through the campaign (although at the time bugs meant it was broken) but with everything turned down to off/low, and I'd STILL get huge stuttering/awful fps.

Every few months I see there's been a couple new patches and I reinstall/update only to be disappointed again and uninstall. I loved the OFP games and I so badly want an Arma game that I can actually enjoy playing - I've spent however many £s with Arma1 Gold, and now Arma 2 still unable to actually enjoy an Arma game due to the massive performance issues, however after playing the demo of OA yesterday I'm wondering if Bis have sorted all this out? Running the game 1920x1200 on whatever the demo defaulted to (medium>high I think) I saw no stuttering or inconsistent fps.

My first question is... I last tried Arma 2 @ 1.05, and the fps issues still forced me to uninstall. Has there been the MASSIVE performance optimisation needed between 1.05 and 1.07 to warrant another attempt?

My other question is, what about Operation Arrowhead. I'm aware the demo didn't feature any dense urban environments. I know they aren't a big part of the new map, but as far as I know they are still there in places. If I spend yet more money on this now, will I only find the same problems with the actual campaign, i.e. more than 20 enemies on screen, vehicles/buildings crippling the fps?

Thanks in advance for any help, I really want to put off all the important things I need to do by sitting here on an Arma game for a week straight rather than just collecting the discs -_-

Latest Beta Patch for A2 is what you want, brings A2 up to OA. Or if you have combined ops just start up with the OA exe.

  8. Maybe a quad-SLI of the Nvidia flagship cards and and Intel Extreme (the one around $1000) 4 gigs of RAM and the best HDD.,

@Rexehuk Wow you have stuters with that CPU? I thought it would easily hadnle the AI. : \

I would say this but with 24GB of RAM so you can run the whole game from RAM for an extra performance boost.

With my specs I run all texture setting on high, aa on low(don't really need higher on 1900x1200), scenery on low and models on normal. Post process is on low,I hate bloom and DOF blur so it isn't going any higher.

I have the render resolution set at 125% as well, this further adds to the AA for improving the visuals.

I can keep my draw distance at between 3.5 to 4k with the above but still have FPS dropping into the low to mid twenties during particularly hectic MP games.

How the game looks with the above settings:

    th_arma2oa2010-08-0919-19-05-75.png

You will see people say they can run ARMA 2 with everything maxed out, they must be playing on 640x480 resolution then.

  9. classic problem that's been seen in previous games like this...

I noticed there was mention of it on the community tracker.. I don't know if it's an actual bug that will be optmized/fixed....

An example is just bring up a reflex scope (the simple one with a red dot) and it will drop your fps... which seems a bit silly to me.

If you can, try to see if your GPU is maxed out when you have this problem... if it is, then maybe you do need a better video card.. if it isn't.. then it's more likely a CPU problem..

As soon as you bring up a scope, if it has any zoom factor, then it is increasing your draw distance by the same factor and therefore creating more models and textures etc which leads to an FPS drop.

Any sight with no zoom factor, I think even the red dots have some, then there shouldn't be an FPS hit as it is just bringing up a model in front of you.

Indeed this is common in a lot of games as this how they implement their zoom optics.

  10. Best not to answer the door or phone anyway, just some asshat trying to sell you new windows.

The only exception is when you have ordered a delivery pizza, then answering the door mid game is legit.

An autopilot would be handy for these moment but you would probably just be a sitting duck anyway. Currently your best solution is to just bail out, open chute and go answer the door in the hope that no sniper is going to kill you while you chute down.

Kiss your plane and the money goodbye and enjoy the walk back to base once you have eaten your pizza.

  11. I found that playing the armoury initially helped a lot, I could then set up and repeatedly try out key combinations for all the vehicles and my foot soldier.

Sure A2 isn't as instantly accessible as a lot of other games, but then there is a lot more functions to be used to your advantage once you learn them.

A lot of the controls you will hardly ever use at all, depending on your play style and personal preference.

A2 is the sort of game that you have to put a little effort in to get some fun back out, ultimately the more rewarding kind of fun.

  12. I find sniping the warpers a fun and new challenge.

I agree, it can be amusing sometimes. I think the Lee Enfield is the gun of choice to add to that fun. ;)

I sometimes find the lagging a bit disconcerting, but I also understand the difficulties with all the information getting passed to the gamers and server during the course of a game.

I do feel that maybe some newer players will be put off with the game before giving it the chance it truly deserves because it isn't always a silky smooth online experience. Once you get into the game proper you forgive it it's minor indiscretions because the end gameplay is pretty damned decent.

However, I wouldn't say no to it being made a little smoother either.

  13. Liquid Cooled 285s here, never go above 50 even when OCed and I still get the driver crashes. I very rarely run games overclocked though, just for benchies.

It is only a recent development with A2 and been there from the start with OA, never had the problem previously.

I never go above low setting in the Post process as the bloom and blur get on my tits.

As soon as the driver fail happens I just alt+enter into windowed and keep on playing, been warned this can frag my cards but I don't see how as the temps are always low and stable and I keep an eye on all the stats with evga precision.

It is either an NVIDIA driver or ARMA 2 game engine issue, can't be bothered going back to old drivers to find out though as the alt+enter soon fixes it.

  14. How would BI fit 100 or so keybinds on a joypad?

How would BI manage to get content that has problems loading from a normal/fast HDD drive from a DVD disk real-time?

This reminds me that most of todays games don't have a fire selector, or lean keys on PC, mainly because the consoles don't have enough buttons..

I currently use a Joypad and mouse, I can play with no mouse whatsoever if I preferred dumbed down aiming as all my keys are between the controller and mouse itself. I only ever need the keyboard for messages, PS3 can use a USB keyboard no problem also BTW.

PS3 has a HDD and blu ray, DVD need never fit the equation unless you are Xboxing it.

Lean, could be done with the PS3 pads tilt sensors.

So the only limitations are really the actual PS3 hardware, the CPU itself can hold it's own but the GFX card is lacking. Sony's biggest mistake was in fact not using a better GFX card as if they did there would be no Xbox360 today.

I mainly game on my PC but I also have a PS3, you may have guessed, but it only gets dusted off for rare occasions of games of MGS.

The real reason to not want any of the consoles getting their foot in the door is usually when one of the console producers give the publishing company a bung, the next thing you know they are taking the M$ shilling and PC will be getting shitty ports.
