So, we are looking at an MD520N Helicopter then? -
Nice work IceBreakr, your maps go from strength to strength.

rolling wheels on helicopters so you can taxi
liquidpinky replied to Baz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Win. This would be great for warfare etc so that a spawned heli could be set to on. Anyone who has bought a Hind-D only to have to ensue in a Benny Hill style chase to get in it will know what I am on about. -
Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
liquidpinky replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I would certainly agree with that, I can whack on 10k for some lovely eye candy screenshots but even on Sahrani, which is one of the faster running maps, my PC will sit mostly on or below 30 FPS. Most other maps you are looking at between 11 to 20 FPS on that draw distance at 5960x1080 resolution. Performance was similar with 2 GTX285s on 1920x1200 resolution also. Between 4k and 5k is pretty decent looking anyway, unless you favour aircraft and need the extra distance to feel immersed. -
Was just trawling the net for decent high FPS cameras and seen a handful of 90fps capable ones too, but there was also some showing the PS3 Eyetoy getting used for proper 60FPS 3D capture work. So it certainly has the speed. Ideally though you want high FPS and resolution to get the best out the tracking software, FPS for smoothness and higher resolution to give more accuracy of the tracking. I did donate but haven't received anything back yet, it was late on last night however. Version 1.5 works great so far though. :) EDIT: Got the 1.6, just need to try it when I get home.
-
Being a TrackIR 5 user I thought I would give this a go as like the creators friend I am sick of being a Borg to use it. I now have it set up pretty much identical to my TrackIR using the version 1.5 with a PS3 Eyetoy, on the way home from work tonight I will be purchasing a decent 60FPS webcam to replace it. Long story short, TrackIR 5 for sale.

Help With Script Needed: Air Traffic Control;
liquidpinky replied to 12345's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Remember to create a wildlife exclusion zone, rabbits create hell on the runway. In RL and in A2. ;) A pilot will stop and wait for them to move out of the way and could cause you some strange occurrences, you may be too far away at the time to spot the insignificant mammal causing the mayhem. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=102126&highlight=waskally+wabbit I will post details of the trigger that stops them when I get home and look at the mission. EDIT: Pic of trigger and set up that seems to do the trick. -
Looking 4 a free roaming utility to tour islands
liquidpinky replied to ron533's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
A nice slow plane and third person for the initial recce, then like Bushlurker says, on foot or bicycle are the way to go so you spot every detail. I tend to hike or cycle everywhere on the maps, including during warfare games etc and there are tons of little hidden touches and details in BIS own maps and with user created ones too. -
PVP, "head bob cheating" ?
liquidpinky replied to granQ's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Nothing more satisfying than killing a cheater and if you consider no headbob a cheat, learn to relish in the satisfaction of taking those exploiting it down. Easy opponents are boring kills, the harder they are to kill the more reward. I don't use very much headbob (20%ish) and I use TrackIR so I still get some nice immersion, I don't on the other hand resent players who adjust settings to suit their own style of play. Arma really shouldn't be about the reactions anyway, when it gets to that stage it is already too late. I will add that if you go on some proper PVP TDM or DM games, no headbob and no TrackIR are the way to go if you want to be competitive in close quarter shoot outs. A2 is surprisingly good fun when playing it in a CoD manner. :) -
Sometimes ALT Tabbing out of ARMA and then going back into the game helps speed things up.
-
Or leave it as it is and spot your receding hairline victims a mile off, even makes the headshot easier. :p

Hold on, at what point did I say it didn't work. I said it is problematic. Now it maybe works great for you guys but for others it doesn't, I am only interested in helping people out here and not getting into some pissing contest. I am like the little devil on their shoulder to your angel, people have to know about both sides of the story otherwise it really isn't an informed decision is it? They would be as well calling up an NVIDIA salesman who would of course sing up and praise A2 in SLi for obvious sales reasons. SLi has put me through hoops to get it working in A2, I know the best drivers (for my system at the time) and all the dirty tricks and setting to use. For instance do you guys get frequent driver crashes like others get? BSODs? Now I could stop my machine having those just by disabling SLi, now tell me it wasn't a problem in that case. Just because the game works great for you, it doesn't mean it works for others. And again vice versa, what fails for me can work for others. You need to widen your vision a bit guys and not stick to the narrow I am always right vision, which admittedly I was starting to get on this topic also. People need to know both sides of the story. In my personal opinion if you want decent performance in A2, graphically, then a good single card option is the most hassle free way to go. Preference would be for one with a lot of RAM. -

Second monitor note recognized.....
liquidpinky replied to Satanello's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Have you tried switching to windowed mode (ALT+Enter while in the options menus) and stretching your screen that way? You can then select the 3d resolution setting in the graphics option and setting it at 100% or higher. You could also probably force it in your profile settings in my documents by putting in the resolution required for the dual screen set up. I recommend you alter the FOV in here as well the or the view will look a bit stretched out. As PuFu says, it won't be much use as your aiming reticule or even when you ADS it will be in the centre join of the two monitors. -

I doubt that seeing as my SLi 285s couldn't. But then it was on a decent sized monitor and not one that even an Xbox would work on. :P Mine isn't speaking from ignorance, it is from experience. But we also all know that everyone has different results with A2. I have ran SLi 285s with a QX9650@4.2 GHz and the same 285s were briefly with my i7@4.2 GHz, they never came anywhere near the performance I am having now with my 3GB GTX580's, which for the record also perform in A2 better out of SLi. -

I would suggest disabling your SLi as well and run the game single card, a lesson I have learned with ARMA 2. -

Better single 580 for ARMA II though, SLi is a pain in the ass for no gain. If upgrading to a new 5 series card for ARMA I suggest one with a lot of memory. ;) -
Operation Arrowhead performance optimizations/comparisons
liquidpinky replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Don't kid yourself or let them kid you, your performance is pretty much it for your system. Htt, enabled works fine with my i7 950. Renderahead set to 3, higher will reduce FPS but make it smoother. V-synch on, the 580s I have will run away with themselves and overheat I have noticed in a lot of games and v-synch stops them from topping themselves. Keeps the card cooler and therefore helps performance overall. Draw distance is the big show stopper, 5k is pushing it on most maps with all the settings maxxed out. Sure you can run 10k in the middle of the desert but try it in the middle of town or pretty much anywhere in Chernarus and enjoy the slideshow. Most of the other settings like textures and going from normal to low AA etc will only gain a couple of FPS here and there. Keep the HDR on normal as well, if you have a version patched that allows it's adjustment as it is a resource hog too. @K1eaner : Pretty much every trick in the first post is now obsolete. I wouldn't bother with any of them. -
True, even the difference between my old QX9650 @ 4.2GHz and my i7 at stock speed, never mind it's current 4.2GHz, was quite noticeable. I think 4 true cores is the way to go with ARMA.

Scrambled game because of HD 200%
liquidpinky replied to Dysentery's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
You have probably waster your money too, I have learned over the years that A2 performs better with single GFX card set ups than two in SLi. That is experienced both with 2 GTX285s in SLi and now 2 GTX580s. I get better performance with the 2 GTX580s running three 1900x1080 monitors than I ever did with the two in SLi running one 1900x1200 monitor. You will suffer far less crashing issues single card as well. -
Vehicle 3rd person stutter
liquidpinky replied to cartier90's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I had this from time to time as well, I noticed that it stutters less if you use the zoom out button while in third person for some reason. -
I should have mentioned a fast CPU and RAM helps too. About your "slow" Raptor, try Disktrix Ultimate Defrag. You can assign more commonly used programs to the outer part of your drive platter and increase loading speeds etc and it certainly keeps your drives in good nick. A decent tool if you like to squeeze every last bit of performance out of your machine.
-
I would agree, the FPS isn't about the smoothness of the visuals but it is also a measure of the game's reaction times to control inputs etc. If you want 60 FPS, get a GTX580. ;)

How much RAM does the typical ArmA player got?
liquidpinky replied to TheForumTroll's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Not at the moment, my intention was to put the whole game into RAM but with ARMA's streaming performance these days makes it unnecessary I think. That and I have way over 24GB in the game folder now with mods anyway. The performance impact of using RAMdisk for ARMA 2 now is minimal and I probably won't be doing it. @Saint Warrior: 2GB of your RAM will be allocated to your GFX card as it has 2GB of RAM. So you will only have 2GB that can be accessed by your OS and system. Like in My case I have 2x 3GB GTX580s so 6GB of my RAM is basically written off to them. Big memory GFX cards need larger amounts of RAM in your system and ultimatly a 64 bit OS to use it.
