Well... Arma 2 is my new job, I guess that says enough.
...well over 200 hours.

For me switching over to new PC with windows 7 64 bit did nothing, so dont get your hopes up too much. This new PC is about twice as fast as my old one and my old one runs the game a lot more stable (has lower FPS though).
Keep in mind that Arma 2 can not use more memory than 2 GB or so.
Might work, might not work. What you can try is the betas, these run much better than the 1.04 game at the moment.

I also had the name thing happening with both 60091 and 60141. It might have been even happening already around beta 60000 but im not sure.
60091 and 60141 I know for sure though.

Hey walker, I did start a whole new campagn to enjoy the new smoothness so it was not a save load sadly.

Up to the Manhattan mission I gotten through all the missions with only 2 crashes in hours of gametime.
I also did some random scenarios, fooled around a bit in the Armory, no crashes.
This was with video memory on default (something I couldnt do before) and Hyperthreading on (which I had to turn off before, more on that soon).
I could even set the view distance up to 7,8KM and have still a smooth game. 10KM is even possible, just still a bit slow and I'd rather have a bit extra FPS (what a joy to fly helos with that in Armory though :)).
Before I had it set to 4KM to keep the memory from overflowing.
Now came the Manhattan mission. A few minutes into it and the first crash came. Restarted, played a few minutes -> crash.
Rebooted, turned Hyperthreading off again. Very low FPS suddenly in that mission. Turned the view distance down to 3KM, didnt help. Turned it down more to 1.6, also did nothing to get up the FPS.
Played on a bit with that and gotten a crash again after a few minutes.
Turned Hyperthreading on again and FPS is good again but still crashes every few minutes.
The crashes are seemingly random but only in this mission. It can happen when I save, open map, or just walk or drive around.
In the capture Chernorosk mission I used to have the memory overflow very quickly, now not anymore, played perfectly with 7.8 KM view distance, so I dont think its that.
Using the same workarounds I used to use (setting video mem to very high and view distance to 4KM) also does not work, so Im not sure what the problem here is now.
Hyperthreading used to be a problem through all of the game and turning it off helped a lot. Now turning it off utterly kills my FPS.
Im now saving my way through the crashes in the Manhattan mission to see what happens in the Bitter Chill mission.
My PC:
I7 860 2.80GHz
Geforce GTX275 using 191.07 drivers.
6 GB DDR3
Windows 7 home premium 64 bit
TrackIR5 (dont think that matters in any way, I tried the game without it already.)
I know this system has the potential to give trouble with this game. I had namely a lot. My old PC which is a lot less fast ran the game a lot more stable.
Now up to the Manhattan mission ArmA II is PERFECT, cant get better. This here is now the only culprit. And I love the campaign here :).
All in all still a very good development with this latest betas in the last few days and keep up the good work.
EDIT: Ok, after some time I could not save at all anymore. Either it crashed or said it saved but didnt (???). Restarted the mission, at first ran very well, then started crashing again. Tested after that some scenarios and these run fine. Weird. Gonna play these and some MP for now as theres so more to ArmA 2 than only the campaign :).

Good point about the multiple saves, this saves quite some trouble in especially Manhattan mission. Though apart from the bugs I like the idea of having only one save slot.
On the ´Enemy in front of us´... I like the ArmA 1 system a lot more. It works very well and I have no idea why they changed it.
There is as far as I know a logic in this though but it is a very confusing one. I think the position is relative to team leader.
I might also go for my own setup of difficulty but so far I´m liking it apart from the mentioned issues.

After some time playing the game on easiest setting I decided this night to give it a go on expert...
What an experience. The game changes 100% for the good. Where on easiest its very easy to find out where I am, now I need to use placemarks and all to orientate. Perfect!
No more pointers telling me where the enemies are. Got to love it.
One thing: Playing on easiest gave me a lot of bad habits, I need to relearn a lot. But that I find one of the huge charms of this game, the more I learn, the deeper and more satisfying it becomes.
Best game/simulator for me by far.
ArmA II :inlove:

I love this game a lot, sadly though, a lot of problems with it take a lot of the would be fun away.
I have though faith that in some time after some driver updates + patches this will be one of the most enjoyable games ever made.
I hope to be able to say in some time that I am extremely satisfied with it as this game (or rather simulator :)) is worth it, which is also the reason why I am putting a lot of time into trying to get the game to run. Where with any other game I would have stopped weeks ago.
And it CAN run well. I am running it well on my other PC and its a blast there. Sadly the CPU in that one is relatively slow and I would like to play it on this one. Which is a nightmare in getting it to run.

I guess this is the problem I get when setting the video memory to high/very high to get rid of the graphics corruption + crash caused by setting video memory to default.
Using a GTX 275 with 191.07 driver, I7-860, 6GB ram, Windows Vista 64bit. Using 1.04 patch of game.

I have the same problem using patch 1.04. I'm using a GTX275 with a I7-860 and 6GB ram on Windows Vista 64 bit.
When I have video memory set to default I get the graphical artifacts until it crashes.
When I set it to high the game runs fine for some while and then crashes without the graphics going nuts.
When I set it to very high the game runs fine for a few minutes until I'm fully surrounded by low polygon models. I dont know if it then will also crash after some time as I did not play on as after some time the only things being shown is grey blocks which might or might not become buildings.
My other pc, which is a AMD64 x2 6000+ with a GTX260 and 2GB ram running Windows XP 32 bit runs the game fine. Also using patch 1.04 there and have video memory set to default. It detects the video ram fine there while its same amount as the other pc.
No graphical artifacts there whatsoever or other glitches apart from the normal z-fighting of textures.
Both pcs use the 191.07 drivers.

I am thinking of getting a new PC for usage of heavy modding of some other games and simulating huge battles in Arma 2.
Right now I have an AMD 64 X2 6000+ which is not nearly having enough power to run a battle of more than around 100 AI at a playable framerate.
I am using the PC for a lot of other things also and have chosen some of these parts accordingly to that. The thing is that of all these things I do Arma 2 is simply the heaviest by far and it is mostly CPU related.
What is the kind of performance I could expect from the following setup in sense of number of AI at playable FPS (20 - 30)? If I made any error in combination of parts please let me also know. :) Thanks in advance.

They know about the issue and are working on it, theres not much you can do about it at the moment.
What I did notice is that with lowering settings the problem gets less.
