  1. They do say initially so the scope may well increase to include vehicles in the far...far future. It seems a daringly over ambitious project but then, if they've pushed BF2 as far as it can go and the new installments are not mod friendly it's quite a logical step. Their biggest challenge, I suppose, will be keeping the team strong for what will be a significant development period.
  2. Nice work Antoine! I like that you've used the old backstory as a basis for this, I quite liked it and was was a little dissapointed when BIS (seemingly) dialed it down a bit.
  3. As mentioned previously cost probably has a lot to do with it. Another thing to consider is the willingness of the companies that make these things to allow their destruction to be depicted, especially for vehicles. Many racing type games which licence real world models never have any damage modelling because the manufacturer's simply do not want their cars associated, even slightly, with the image of a crash. I suppose this could be particularly of military vehicles, seeing as avoiding destruction and damage is a big part of their design.

    Oh I don't disagree! :) That BIS have the right backdrop for their narrative is very important for the success of the game. But so is freedom for custom-content creators. You can easily add as many or as few burnt out cars as you want in the mission editor, I don't see why so many of them need to be permanently positioned.

    I have to agree with the OP I feel there are too many wrecked cars on Altis. Having them dotted around the countryside is fine however in some places there are either too many or there shouldn't be any at all. This is particularly true in the airport terminal car park which is full of burnt out cars. A big part of Arma's appeal is the sandbox nature of it which leaves mission makers with options for their story background setting. As it is, much of Altis looks as though war is either ongoing, or has occurred sometime in the past which gives a great range of options. If needs be there are areas which are pristine and don't appear war damaged or areas where depicted damage could simply be passed off as dereliction. However, taking the airport car park as a case in point, it is an example of the car wrecks depicting a war in progress, because even a few months after a war had ended such wrecks would have most likely been cleared from such an important location, while more remote wrecks could be left for years, perhaps never moved! My point is, while the volume of wrecks is mostly fine, at certain locations they unnecessarily restrict narrative options and would perhaps be better left to the mission makers discretion...

    I was playing 'Assault on Charkia' last night and it is a great showcase for AI advancement, certainly overall since Arma 2 and possibly for recent updates too. I was really impressed at my squads behavior, staying roughly together inside the town, not too many people wandering off to the other side of buildings and even stacking up on street corners, allowing one soldier to peek first before moving. On the edge of the town, just before we moved in, the whole squad lined up along a wall facing the town firing at a few visible defenders. I just had to stop and admire it! Combat in the town also seemed snappier, both friendly and enemy AI much quicker to engage.

    +1 Have to declare my support for this. The stated improvements are very welcome and I look forward to trying them out. Fine tuned to work as Mr_Centipede described would do wonders for the flow of combat in CQC, in my opinion.
  11. VERY impressive work there NerdMod and congrats on the RPS feature! With regards to the "Extension" function for keeping foundation pieces at the same height, are you considering including pillars in this function as a way around the height limit on foundations? Effectively allowing floor plates to be built out over steep terrain.

    A 23 year old uniformed French soldier on patrol at a station in La Defense has been attacked by a knifeman. The identity of the attacker has not been confirmed.     A friend just linked me a video posted by a user named "HotViralNews" on YouTube of the moment that armed police arrive. It is shot from some high vantage point and shows the perpetrators immiediatly running towards the police vehicle, shooting. Officers inside the vehicle shoot at least one of the suspects whilst still in their seats, such is the speed the whole incident unfolds. I won't link to the video as I am sure it would break forum rules. If anyone really wishes to see it, i doubt it will be difficult to find, so long as it remains up on YouTube.

    I have not come across any confirmation in the various reports but the general view yesterday was that the armed officers responding were not SCO19 (SWAT type response) but 'Trojan', which is a branch set up to get quickly respond to gang violence in London with police that are not so heavily equipped. For this reason it is terrible that it took 20 minutes for armed police to get there.

    Tech wise (arma3 vs other huge map games)

    JC2's island is certainly beautiful, in particular it's vistas. However as previously stated most of it is sea (pretty sea granted) and then vast swathes of the land mass are simply oversized mountains which aren't all that detailed up close. I don't think the two games are all that comparable to be honest.
  17. I’ve spent quite a bit of time planning out the parts for my first PC build and I was hoping to get some feedback and advice on my proposed components. I’m studying to be an architect and will be returning to university in September for the second part of the course. For this reason I need my PC to handle large, high poly 3d models and some often intensive rendering. I also want it to do a decent job of running games like Rome 2 and, of course, Arma 3! I also don’t want to be that annoying student with the unreasonably loud PC so I’m looking for a setup that will perform well without shaking the walls!   20. From the article it seems that everything, with the exception of bug fixes, will only be available via subscriptions. On that note the wording here: What that means with regards to the avilability of bug fixes for those who want to purchase future versions without subscription is questionable.
  21. EA have announced at GDC that Maxis will return to 'reboot' the SimCity franchise. A new engine has been created for the game called "GlassBox", the first details of which are beginning to emerge. It is promised to be a true succsor to the previous SimCity games, particularly SimCity 4 and at this time seems to be exclusively for PC and Mac (yes really!). Time will tell if this is the true, long awaited sequel, personally at this stage I have a good feeling about it. In the mean time, what are your thoughts? How many of you hardcore tactical mil-simers are also hard core urban planners at heart?

With regards to that, there was something in this thread here about some graphics features being shifted to the CPU if you put the settings down low, so that you would in fact hamper performance futher by putting more pressure on the one componenet. It's really not my area of expertise and I may have mis-read so if someone more knowledgable could confirm this it would be useful! :D
