  1. I've noticed that the problem (I have the same problem as in Abc94s videos) occur much more frequently when I am flying. It's almost never there when I'm playing as infantry, but happens all the time when I'm flying. I wonder why there should be such a difference?

Yeah for me too the bug occours for sure more when I am flying with maxed graphics. I am guessing it is because it has to draw a much bigger area than if you were walking on the ground.

  2. Ive made many tests and collected informations and discussed a lot about it a year ago (in this thread), ive also made the youtube video you mentioned. Here are all informations and hints about it (should be very informative to you):

    http://dev-heaven.net/issues/2500

My advise? Install Windows 7 - 64 bit and you will not have this problem anymore. I dont have seen a another solution. A workaround was to change the graphic memory value to normal or even low, but that does produce not a nice graphical presentation.

I am thinking about getting Windows 7 anyways, but I don't really think it's right that I have to buy a whole new operating system just to get this game to function properly.

BTW thanks for making the bug report on dev-heaven, even though it's now closed for some reason...

I think I tried it on high before, but I will test it again anyways.

As expected, setting the video memory to high just makes the triangles occour less frequently.

One problem I just thought of is that maybe I am uninstalling my old video drivers inproperly when I install the latest ATI drivers.

I use this method: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/windows-xp-radeon-display-drivers/107447-uninstalling-installing-ati-drivers-properly.html (even though it's four years old)

When I launch the game I get the good old 'Input Not Supported' screen :\

    TotalEclipse did you try this?

  3. Yeah I tried default and very high video memory settings. It sometimes makes it go away for a while. I think I tried it on high before, but I will test it again anyways.

I have exactly same problem on my Windows Xp partiton.

Really? I have a partition on my hard drive too. ARMA II is installed on the same partition that all the windows files are on. But that's an interesting connection and maybe it is part of the problem.

I think maybe even a poll should be started to see if people with this problem have partitioned hard drives.

  4. Patched to 1.07 and I am still having this problem constantly since last Augest. I posted a couple of times earlier in this thread.

    wfGea5Bl5I0&feature=related

    1SitcAf48zA&feature

It happens more frequently in cities and forests but also occurs in less detailed areas.

As well, my FPS will sometimes drop from around 30 to around 1-2 randomly with no visible artifacting. This to seems to also happen more often in higher detailed areas.

    My specs are:

    Win XP 32 bit

    ATI 4850 512MB

3GB of ram (DDR2 if it matters)

Phenom X6 3.2 GHz (When I got this I thought it would make a big differnce in performance but so far I haven't noticed much with ARMA II) (Used to have a dual core)

I know alot of people are having this exact problem. Has anyone found a fix for this?

    I have:

Tried nearly everything with ATI video settings (CCC) and in game settings

Tried all the ATI driver versions down to around 9.3 (properly uninstalling them with dirver cleaner each time)

    Updated my onboard graphics card

Formatted my Computer about three times

    Uninstalled Arma II twice

    tried -Cpucount=6, Maxmem=2047, exthreads=7

No other games that have this problem

I haven't really tried anything with hyperthreading in BIOS. Is it safe to disable it to see if it makes a differnce?

  5. I can't read and sort all this thread out, way too much info. So, quick question for those who've better followed this than I: Is it safe to patch into 1.04? Or might that introduce Artifacts for me?

Hard to say. I have been having artifacts since the demo, but I have heard people say that the patches started the artifacting.

Even if BIS let us know they were working on a fix, I would be happy, no matter how long it took.

  6. Abc94 try AMD's dual core optimiser from the AMD site. I remember it helped me a little when I had my x2 3600+

Ok, I got it. I haven't really played around on Arma to much since I got it, but i'll let you know if it makes a differnce

    happens.

You need to open your case and check your motherboard chipset, it is either going to be Nvidia/Intel/SIS/VIA/AMD, etc.. Or check your device manager under System Devices. Once you have that information you can head over to their website and check for driver updates for your motherboard. They should be pretty simple to install, almost like any other driver. Will more than likely have updates for your ethernet, SATA/Raid, etc.

For example, my board is an EVGA Nvidia 680I SLI. I would go to Nvidia's website to download updated drivers for my board.

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_win764_15.51.html

And it has the following information for the release highlights

    Windows 7 64-bit Driver Versions:

    * Ethernet Driver (v73.14) WHQL

    * Network Management Tools (v73.16) "Sedona"

    * SATAIDE Driver (v11.1.0.33) WHQL

    * SATARAID Driver (v11.1.0.33) WHQL

    * RAIDTOOL Application (v11.1.0.30)

    * SMBUS Driver (v4.74) WHQL

    * SMU Driver (v1.71) WHQL

    * Installer (v7.57)

    * Audio Driver (v1.00.00.59)

I would download the package and install. I would only choose what I really need though, like I don't need the Network Mngt Tools, Raid, or Audio Driver, but the rest I would install.

If you need further help you can PM me or just post in here.

As far as this post and the game, I selected:

Good game, Some problems ive managed to over come now running smooth

Had some issues on initial install with Win XP 32 bit. Artifact issues, nothing I tried corrected the problem and I read this forum inside and out for about 2 hours trying every tweak/config I could. Ended up upgrading to Win 7 64, needed to anyways this just made me do it faster. I was on Vista 64 before but it crashed on me and I didn't go back to it. Game runs pretty smooth now, 30'ish constant FPS on ground and in air so it's stable. Still tweaking a bit more to pump out some more FPS on highest settings.

I just found my Motherboard chip set CD. It's an "NVIDIA GeForce 6150". Something close to yours I think. I'll let you guys know what happens.

And, really, I appreaciate the help! I must have spent over 12 hours looking on the fourms/google trying to solve this problem.

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

In my Device manager it says I have "NVIDIA nForce PCI System Management".

Is this something to do with my chipset driver? It says "nForce" instead of "Gforce".

  7. Don't forget to update your motherboard drivers as well. One of my friends was having studder issues and crashes. He got very annoyed at how many people kept telling him to update his drivers and he was positive it wasn't the issue, but turns out he just kept updating some of his drivers but none of his motherboard drivers (he didn't even install the drivers on initial windows installation)

After fresh drivers off his manufacturers website Arma hasn't had a problem since.

I had no idea about updating motherboard drivers. How do you do it?

I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ 2.00 GHz. You might not need all of that information though.

Also there are Chipset drivers, but I have no idea of what type I have.

Anyways, yeah! Hopefully that is my problem! :)

  8. I tried a defragger called Ultra Defrag, and although I only played for 2 hours, it seemed to make a large differnce.

I only got two artifacts spasms during my two hours of playtime. One where I flew very far out of UTES, and the second as soon as I joined a server.

I don't know if defragging made a differnce, but I didn't have any problems for those two hours, where beofore I got spasms every 1 - 2 minutes.

Before that, I got spasms every 1 - 2 minutes.

The artifacting seems to be comming back now. I also noticed that my drive needs to be defragged again, although I had not had any crashing/restarting at all.

I am probably going to wait until the next patch.

    Thanks,

I tried every possible config I could, above included. Just could not get rid of the artifacts. They only started after about 5 minutes in the air or after I had passed a couple of towns.

Installed Windows 7, updated all drivers, and now it runs fine. Played for about an hour with no problems, also FPS has gone up. With XP32 and FRAPS I was getting around 30. Haven't installed FRAPS yet but I can sure tell a difference.

It's good to know that Windows 7 fixes it. I am not going to get 7 yet though, I am going to hope for a fix (if one comes).

  10. The graphics glitches that are in those YouTube videos look like possible GPU overheating issues? Could that be the case?

I have other problems myself more related to LOD and texture loading which is entirely a problem with Arma not being able to address memory at or above 8GB properly. (The issue of which is STILL not fixed properly)

I'm pretty sure it's not over heating. There was a thread on the issue and it seemed that everyone who had the artifacts were not overheating. You could be right though that it is overheating, I just think it is something else since so many other people had it. Mine never goes past 70C, although it did get to 104C once when my sound card was blocking the fan (that's past the boiling point of water!)

I used a program called Ultra Defrag and it seemed to almost fix it, since the artifacts only came up twice during two hours of gameplay, which is a huge improvement.

I used to get CTD and BSOD's before, but I don't know if they're gone since I haven't played much since I used Ultra Defrag.

  11. When I got the demo, the game was artifacting like crazy (every 30 seconds). I played with the in game settings, as well as CCC (ATI 4850), and got the artifacting to stop.

When I bought the game, it worked fine for about three weeks. No artifacting at all during that time. Eventually, I started to get artifacts again and eventually 2 BSOD. After seeing BSODs, I reinstalled my video driver.

Now, the BSODs are gone, but I get massive artifacts about every 1 - 2 minutes, as well as frame rates of 10 - 20. For me, the game is nearly unplayable. I also not that I get a major FPS drop and pieces of shadow everywhere (seen in 1983ginger123 video) right before massive artifacting.

Here are two videos that I did not make that show my problem exactly.

    wfGea5Bl5I0

(made by 1983ginger123) (also known as "Ginger Mcale" on these forums)

    (made by redlike)

    Here are my Specs.

ATI radeon HD 4850 (Is at Version 9.9)

    XP Service pack 3

    3070MB RAM

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz (If this helps) (64 bit)

There is also a 75 page long thread here about video issues with ATI video cards. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=73235

And another Poll thread here which is called "Artefacts and Graphic Bugs till crash Poll". http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=86688 This one is like the other thread execpt it is for Nvidea cards. Same issues though.

  12. Everyone with the issue please PM Dwarden who has kindly offered to look into this, his post is buried a few pages back with the requirements.

BIS are unable to replicate this problem and as such will not be able to fix it, they need information and tests I would assume run by those of us who have the issue.

There is currently no work around known to date, there is no fix, please PM Dwarden to get things rolling.

    Here:

or just use -winxp command line ...

anyway is there anyone who have these issues and is :

    A. located in Prague

    B. located in Czech republic

    C. located in CET/GMT timezone ?

if so, drop me PM , thanks ...

Do we only pm him if we are A B or C and what do we send to him?

  13. Ok, the only differnt things on your CCC and mine is adaptave Anti-Aliasing (Used to cause problems for me before) and mipmap detail at performance. My in game settings are usually maxed out except for 3d resolution and having AA disabled.

I just tried to play it with the settings flying in editor and it took much longer to artifact (about 3 minutes). Even though it didn't work, I really appreactiate the help. :) (It could also be that I didn't restart ARMA/my PC after changing the settings)

I have two questions to ask though.

When you change the video settings around in game, are some settings missing sometimes, eg. only being able to set terrain detail up to normal, while other times you can set it to very high?

Have you ever seen objects/textures being loaded in game while your flying or moving very fast, like buildings appearing out of no where or trees/bushes appearing super low detail for a quick period of time?

Well, I did the same as Ginger McAle and converted to Windows 7 64bit on my gaming rig, and that actually fixed it. But it is kind of annoying to have to change to a new OS just for one game :P

I am going to wait for a few new patches before doing anything drastic. I just hope something comes out.

  14. I think I am going to try to do a complete uninstall of my ATI drivers, install the drivers that came on a CD, try Arma 2, and if that doesn't work, try 9.9 anyways.

Using the old drivers seemed to make the artifacting go away completly when flying over a large town in editor. When I tried multiplayer, I got artifacting right from the start.

Then I insalled 9.9 drivers and was able to play for a bit in armory with no artifacting, but when I tried the editor flying over a large town, it came back. After exiting the editor the main menu was back to its artifacting as well.

  15. For many people the game is unplayable due to artifacts, CTD's, and a whole bunch of other problems.

I would even be happy knowing that these bugs would be fixed in an upcomming patch, even if it is not 1.05.

    wfGea5Bl5I0

(I did not make these videos.)

These is a thread that is currently 77 pages long about these problems here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=73235

  16. I got the artifacting as soon as I got the demo. I managed to get rid of it by playing with CCC and the in game settings. I have no idea what I did though. When I bought the actual game the problems were gone for about three weeks until I got two Blue Screens. After that the problems came back as bad as before which is major artifacting about every minute of flying in the editor. Even turning video memory down to normal does not help. My artifacting is exactly the same the same thing that Ginger McAle had in his video (the post above me)

    wfGea5Bl5I0

It's a good thing that you finaly fixed the problem by swtiching to windows 7. I am going to stay with XP and hope for the best.

    my specs are:

ATI radeon HD 4850 (Is at Version 9.8, even though 9.9 is released, I heard it makes no differnce)

    XP Service pack 3

    3070MB RAM

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz (If this helps) (64 bit)

I might be missing something here, I don't know.

Also, did you vote on the poll about which operating system this problem is the most common on? http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=86688

  17. yeah ive played it myself but what i actually mean is, is it possible for the actual buy unit and weapons menu used in Crti warfare be used as a seperate mod, so that we can use it on all warfare types instead of stock version? would be nice if it was.

Oh I see what you mean.

There probably is, I just have no idea how to do it.

Benny's warfare has a good buying system and uses the normal warfare mode with lots of improvements, like more buildings, a system for using artillary, building upgrade system. The AI can't upgrade buildings yet though.

Starting a new thread asking how to do this would probably get you an answer pretty quick.

  18. I have the same problem, that flickering/artifacting about every minute.

I had this since the demo, but I managed to fix it somehow while playing with the settings in Catalyst Control Center (I am an ATI owner) as well as the settings in game. I have no idea what I did to fix it, but it worked fine for about 3 weeks, then came back as bad as before.

Usually right before it happens, I see random pieces of shadows on everything like in the video below.

    wfGea5Bl5I0

    (made by 1983ginger123)

Other times I get the shadows for much longer before the artifacting occurs.

When the flickering/artifacting occurs, mine looks exactly like this:

    1SitcAf48zA

    (made by redlike)

My artifacting is also the exact same like in the first video (1983ginger123) at 40 seconds.

    I have:

ATI radeon HD 4850 (Is at Version 9.8, even though 9.9 is released, I heard it makes no differnce)

    XP Service pack 3

    3070MB RAM

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz (If this helps) (64 bit)

Every other game works fine other than Arma 2.

(I don't know if I am all the needed specs)

I am pretty sure this is an issue on both ATI and Nvidea. There is a thread that is 75 pages long that is stickied here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=73235 Unfortionatly, BIS has not yet mentioned a fix in an upcomming patch or even acknowledged it as a major problem as far as I know.

What is also very weird is I can run the game perfedtly fine on a differnt computer with another 4850 and 2gb of ram. The only differnce between main differnce between the two PCs I think is the processor, although I am not sure what type it is.

  19. ive noticed in certain MP games that there is a different type of menu for buying units and weapons, is it a mod version? or has anyone created a mod version that wil solve our problems? and if so can someone provide us with a link to download it please?

It's a mod called Crcti Warfare. I have yet to actually play a game of it, but I heard it is susposed to be a smaller scale version of Warfare mode that focuses on the area around one of the airports. You can just google it or just find a server running it.
