  1. From reading above there if you have a CO server, only CO clients would see it, not anyone with the standalone OA client?

So basically BIS has shattered the community into three segments, none of which can play with each other anymore? ArmA vs OA vs CO/OA? I hope I'm reading that wrong. :o

No I believe you are quite right. This is serious bull, to have to go to this extent to play with old and new players.

If you have Arma up in whatever version, you should see ALL the servers and be limited or filter out the ones availible to your version.

CO should be playable with everyone because thats why it costs more right?

This whole release from the multiplayer perspective has done nothing but split the community and once again forcethe community to do alot of work for free just to get this program usable for all.

The Steam issues should have never happened, the constant version pop up when the OA patch should have updated everything.

I cant see most of the servers and I cant even get into my own server in plan vanilla Arma2 because of a vfersion mismatch that really doesnt exist.

Can someone explain to me why this has been such a difficult process when the 3rd party community has been modding up ARMA for a decade, BIS cant really create a usable mod for all.

Yes an already small community is being fragmented even more.

  2. I wouldve thought Steam would have a fix for this, or that it should not have been a problem to begin with.

You can move your AOexpansions folder over but it doesnt allow access to the maps in the editor and you still wont see MP games using OA

If I had known this I woulda spent the extra few bucks and bought the full version or Arma2/OA

In fact, at this point, I think Steam owes us that. If you already have a version of A2 and bought OA and it would not integrate, they should offer a free download of the complete package.

  3. Just caught this post.

I want to thank the 10th SFG for supporting our regular friday night events on our server.

You guys have been awsome fun to work with!

    :)

I will put the word out and get our guys to your events as well.

Looking forward to good times guys...

    Cheers

    FRAG-TASTIC FRIDAYS

We are hosting a HUGE game on our servers every Friday night.

Black Jack will be hosting other units from the JSOC community,

and other outstanding units from around the community in LARGE Coop

missions. These missions will be played tactically and we prefer if those

joining have teamspeak. Also, you will need the ACE 2 mod.

So if you are looking for fun and have a free Friday Night to kill some bad guys, join us!

Our Server is located at 206.123.94.106:2302

Our teamspeak is located at ts3.defconservers.com port 10019

    Hope to see everyone there.

  5. How do I make respawn points (base type)?

Put the following into your description.ext (in your mission's folder):

    respawn="base"

    respawndelay=15

    Respawn delay is in seconds.

In OFP, place a marker, e.g. a circle. Name it "respawn_west" for West's respawn, "respawn_east" for East's respawn, and "respawn_guerrila" for Resistance' respawn. Notice the typo of guerrila (correctly spelled it's guerrilla or guerilla (both are correct), but for respawn in OFP it's guerrila).

  6. Yep, def reminds me of Full Spectrum Warrior on the XBox where the squad positions were defined by pointing to a nearby building and moving around until the desired formation is reached. Could make for more controllable urban combat if it is fully implemented.

I like the concept - nice work.

Oops - parallel post. Yep, one thing Full Spectrum did (irc) was orientate the squad to cover all the angles and for the lead to peek around the corner, looking for threats. But then, I am getting greedy . . .

Definatly FSW, but I like it, I thought it worked well. Keep working on this I think this is something ARMA needs to get the AI even more realistic for CQB

  7. I mentioned this earlier and have no particular ties to this server but.....

Ive found good admin and teamplay in only one open server 3rdMD

Any of the other good games Ive had were in passworded servs.

3rdMD really keeps people in line or boots them, In fact lately we have seen very little

bad players doing stupid things because they have been consistent in kicking people for bad gameplay and they just dont come back to that server anymore.

Goes to prove that good admining can force good game play but I will also say that they have had a heck of a time getting there and it is a constant job to monitor plyers and ensure that only teamplayers stay in the server.

And oh yeah, they run Domination most of the time.

  8. Would be nice if people actually spend some time to think about the game types/modes they are suggesting before suggesting them... And then fully explain why and how they would work.

You know I was gonna refrain but......

This is how projects and things start.

You throw something out there and toss it around a little and see what comes back or comes about....if I had designed this mission as you would like me to explain in full minut detail.....I would have built it already.....and this thread would have been titled "play my three way reacharound multiplayer mission"....but its not......I think Ive just grown tired of you trying to highjack my thread on the tottally off topic issue.

    So if you please.

You ve already said you wish you had more ideas for making missions.

    I granted you your wish.

Myself and several others have provided you with a plethera of possible mission concepts.

Now just be gratefull, say thank you, and walk away.

---------- Post added at 07:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:48 AM ----------

That would interest me a lot. And believe me im trying to learn the editor more and more, but i am nowhere near being able to create a professional mission like this.

I think however its a very nice mission idea. We have more factions - why not use them.

    Alex

I always thought the US Army vs Insurgents and toss in some Blackwater type independent contractors..

For example: The Marines are in a major fire fight against Insurgents for control of the city. Mean while, the Blackwater guys are trying to guard a convoy that has the misfortune of stumbling in between the fire fight.

The contractors main priority is security of the convoy and get them from point A to B while the other 2 are fighting over the territory.

Gonna have to work on this if I have some time.

  9. "We should have a 3-sided game mode"

And how exactly do you intend to make it work?

"We should have a non-equal game mode where one team has X and another has Y"

And how exactly do you make that work?

I mean, people make a lot of suggestions without actually explaining the details that are required to make them work.

    Well..lets see...Opfor...Blufor...Independent

and um...no auto balance.....seems like its built in already.

Why cant you have 3 factions attempting to gain control over the same objective...or....3 faction trying to accomplish different tasks within the same AO.

It would not be that difficult, Ive done SP missions but havent taken a shot at MP missions but now maybe I will. If someone has any insight to this or has tried and failed then please speak up now.

This thread has sparked some interesting topics and soem new information for some people..

    But I digress.......

    Back on topic......

The Idea was to have a central thread or stomping ground for squads to be able to contact and arrange events...they dont have to be against each other all the time...say if 4 squads get together they could split into two or whatever combination.

We have alot of squads that specialize in certain abilities ie: Snipers, Recon, Armor, Aviation.

You could have joint operations if you like or just team vs team..

My thought is to still keep it light and breezy inregards to structure but if we wanted to post the results for the purpose of fun and bragging right then thats cool too.

Maybe just another category in the threads would do it, or a sticky somewhere to get the ball rolling.

It just needs a central communtications point. Right now every squad has a diffrent website and server and most stick to theyre own in co-op mode.

    Just a suggestion

  10. Xeno

Youve got to take a deep breath and relax.

Im a little dissapointed that you took that route.

Your a well known veteran of the game and if you approach things in the right fasion you have a lot of influence in the community based on your works and your name, but if you start off by calling people "crybabys" and "whiners" you wont win any favor.

I think you may have missinterpeted this thread to be a direct attack on your mission when it clearly is not.

No one was singleing you out or your mission. Its was a healthy constructive disscussion on the pros and cons of open server games and why they work or dont work..

Im not sure why you got so defensive but you should really take all of this feedback into account and use to your advantage in the future.

Feedback is always good, whether good or bad...

Your mission is on %80 of the open servers. There is always going to be some negative feedback....Hell, I like your mission and appreciate your work.....But like the others....

Im tired of it a little too and would like something different.....Not like your Dom mission all of a sudden sucked or anything, but after playing through 6 hour conquests over and over, week after week......I want some change too.....

Im an old dude too... I make missions sometimes....upload em....some good feedback....some bad.....I enjoy making missions as I am sure you do to.

I sent a beta mini campaign to some folks and got mixed feedback....am I offended....did I take it personal.....no.....its just feedback....it makes me better.

It gives you an outside perspective.

You did a great job with Dom. Obviously its very popular.

The general consensus here is that its the players not the mission, however the mission can play a part in forcing teamwork...

  11. Yes of course someone from New South Wales Australia would comment :P

Grub, you should be proud, the Aussie helo operators have an amazing reputation. The Americans loved them. I dont know if you read some of the old magazine articles on those sites but are definatly interesting.

The EMUs were a very successfull unit and proved the concept of joint operations between countries of very diffrent ilks.

They didnt just conduct a few operations together, they were integrated for the duration.

The guys I know have all said great things about the Aussies and aparently there are regular reunions down under and they are treated like royalty.

One of my buddies said Australia was the Valalla for helicopter pilots.

    Cheers

Sorry bout posting in wrong location....thanks mods for the move :)

  12. Hey guys

I wanted to share with you some of the cool stuff I do for a living.

I am a flight instructor in fixed wing aircraft. I have flow for News and Traffic as well as other flying gigs. I am a Mission pilot in both the USCG aux and the Civil Air Patrol.

Being in the aviation field has given me oppotunities to meet and fly with war heros and legends in aviations.

One of the projects I have had the honor to work on is a registered working war memorial. It is a group of Vietnam vets, Pilots and Crew Chiefs.

We were able procure a huey a few years ago and have restored it to historical accuracy.

We are in the process of seeking a second huey at this time.

Please take a few minutes to peruse the website:

    www.hueyvets.com

As is explained, the EMU were joint U.S. and Australian or Experimental Military Unit...pronounced like the animal Emu's

The EMU's were the dust off operations while the Taipans were the firepower, they all operated as the 1st Aviation Brigade 135th AHC

I invite you to look through the unit site as it is loaded with pictures and action reports as well as a detailed history of the area of operations.

    http://www.135ahc.net/

Be sure to click on each firebase and AO to see the thousands of pictures and history that are on this website.

    The Military.com page

    http://unitpages.military.com/unitpages/unit.do?id=702854&ck_unit=67040

So for veterans day as usual we took the Huey to a parade in Petaluma California for a series of fly by's and rides. I happen to be currently flying camera missions for work and we were able to arrange some air to air footage low through the Oakland hills. Once we have it all edited I will post a link.

Ive flown lots of warbirds and the huey, it always reinvigorates my love for aviation when I get to flys the aircraft that I made models of when I was a kid. As a child the Huey, C-130, and C47/DC3 were always my favorites and I am fortunate to have flown all 3 in my career.

    Anyway hope you enjoy.

  13. I played an organized event with the 3rd marine division on tuesday, it was very fun.

We used the domination map. I doesnt matter what your are playing if the people do not co-operate.

If you would like to read the feedback from this event heres the link

    Some quotes:

"Much fun. First time I've had the chance to enjoy actual organized and realistic gameplay from ARMA II, much like I've often wanted. "

"This was exactly what I try to get out of gameplay. Loved the organization of the game! It was awesome to be doing one thing and then hear/see an explosion across town."

"It gave you pride that what you were doing was actually helping out."

"I have been playing Arma now since the first one came out in 2007. However, not once have I ever experienced something quite like the realism event I experienced with The 3rd MD. Its been said before and I will say it again, THATS how arma2 should be played!"

"For the first time in a long time I walked away from my computer feeling satisfied and whole. "

Not specifically hyping this particular server but I am having fun there.

  14. I think a large percentage (maybe 80% or more) who match or scrim are UK and if this is US based I would be interested at some level. What type of gametypes are you interested in? My group is small (2-4 regulars) so I would have to create my own competitve member group if matching in some gametypes is preferred. Good scrims or matches is with 5-8 players per team.

Well I think it should be more like a gang fight in that your formal squad members but if you have mercenaries or recruits thats ok too.

I mean, Battle isnt fair and no one lines everybody up to even out the forces and then goes to battle.

SO it would be a "bring what you got" type situation.

One of the ideas that could be cool is 3 way battle...

Say you had a smaller group....you would be the independents...the guerillas and each side might have diffrent objective located in the same area.

Whoever completes the objectives first wins..

So a small insurgent force conducting a clandistine operation could still win over the bigger and stronger armys, however the tactics would have to be very stealth and try to avoid confilct.

    Anyway....just throwing that out there.

What I would like to see is a central sticky post or soemthing dedicating to helping various units connect and play whether doing joint co-op or PvP

We have specialty squads that focus on flying or medic or recon so why not having a common ground to meet and orginize joint ventures...

I mean how cool is it when the AirCav guys are flying and there are dedicated convoys and medics all working together.

    Cheers

  15. You girls are all being silly and wrong, the reason is that people don't care. Don't put out that bullshit on "it's about the mission" or "lets blame the admins". The fault is on the players. Everybody who has given a bit of time knows how ArmA should be played but we don't wanna do that on random public because it takes effort.

    End of discussion.

This I agree with. We Americans are fighting a rampent and growing virus in our country.

The virus is called "Lack of personal responsibilty"

    The primary symptoms are:

    Refusal to accept ones role

Constantly blaming other for the lack of better skills

Not taking responsibility for theyre action

Failure to recognize the consequences of actions

Becoming bitter when negative consequences are thrust upon them for theyre actions

Failure to envision how ones actions affect others

Lack of regard as to how one actions affect others

There is always the blame game....its this...its that.....its not my fault.....

    He did it!............

Now now before we all get worked up.

There is an element of mission and game engine and gameplay style that do affect the action and reaction of players.

If you want to make a realistic and teamwork oriented server that allows no room for run and gun and rambos..........remove the spawn

This is a huge factor in Americas Army that I like.

The game play is diffrent and the rounds are timed to a 10 min limit but......

If you had the same situation in Arma two things would occur.

    1. no one would want to die.......the self perservation will force you to stick to teams move slow and tactical, avoid conflict when possible.

    2. Rambos would die fast and get bored waiting and leave the server for a respawn run and gun server.......problem solved, no more kicking no more arguments..........just let nature take its course..

Those that die and are willing to wait till restart are mature and patient, really are the player you want anyway

You would still have medic and the revive system which would force more team play. In fact you could create the scripts that would force medics to stabilize the victim and then load him into a helo or ambulance to be taking to a field hospital ...and then he can return to battle fully healed.

It would create a real milsim environment and I am sure no one will want to be running out front trying to find enemy to open up on.

But back to the original point.

Games are played by people of all ages and backrounds. It is up to the individual player to function with the rest of the people on servers.

If someone tells you something and it seems resonable you should probably not argue and go with the flow provided they are a valid source.

There are some servers who spend a majority of theyre time looking for guys to kick for various reasons...this is also wrong and the admin needs to also hold himself to the same respect level that they expect in return.

What Im saying is nothing new, this is how we interact in life and should not be limited to how we play.

We alll need to take responsiblity for our actions and conduct ourselves in the manner that we would like to be treated.

    Play responsibly and have fun!

  16. Is there a league for multiplayer in Arma...

What I would like to know actually....

Is there an organization and leader board for Squads (..oh my not clanss:j:)

Basically it would be cool to have a running tally when 2 squads (or more)

    hold events against eachother.

    Like

Joe Schmoos squad vs The Fighting Eagles

    and you know...keep track.

    Just for fun.

Where and how would you organize the squads....

Or maybe this is the post that will start the whole world laughing.

Let me know if there is interest to start something.
