I'd say the best thing you can do is get a wii remote + bluetooth dongle, it's much smoother at 100fps. If you can't do that then it's all about getting the balance between smoothing/amount of lag you can put up with. I'd really need to know what settings you've got to try and help any further.

Are you using the saitek programming software? because I don't get any of these problems. I find it's much easier to map the x52 buttons directly in arma II and I have no issues (there are more than enough buttons on the x52 for flight in arma).I have some serious issues with controls recently now that I am flying on a regular basis.Firstly is the way the game activates single key presses every time a double key press is pushed eg: Toggle landing gear is set to "Right Control + G". But GPS is also set to "G", so when I press "Right Control + G" it toggles my landing gear and shows the GPS.... pretty stupid. And as you can imagine very frustrating depending on what keys it presses. Another example of this: By default "A" is set to move left on ground, air and on foot, fair enough. I wanted Toggle Auto Hover to be "Right Control +A", but when ever I press the button that activated that on my stick it banks the helo left, because "A" is part of the key combo....annoying. "CTRL+A" Keypress Should Not Activate "A" keypress, it should be treated as a separate command....
There are others too, like some times CTD when changing mapping in game. Crash relates to Directinput.dll.
Another very irritating one: If your in a hover in a chopper and use Chat, Player list view, map etc your throttle is cut and you plummet to the ground unless your quick.. I mean seriously.... these are 101 bugs that should have been eradicated long, long ago.
And another: There is an option in controls called toggle zoom ( which I have set to double tap num- or num+). However for some reason these controls only work on foot, where they are least useful... not in any vehicle, ground or air...why??
Do any of these bugs make anyone else's hair fall out? :banghead:
They are so basic why have they not been fixed?
I swear every time you try some thing new in this game you have to first learn to live with a myriad of quirks.
When using the keyboard I also do not have these issues i.e. the gps coming up when I try to toggle gear.
As for the toggle zoom, I don't use it - but the other 'hold to zoom' button is mapped to the pinkie switch on my x52p and it works fine in most aircraft.

I agree it's quite annoying, as you want mouse freelook to be on by default in vehicles (because who in his right mind drives/flies with the mouse?), but have it off by default when on foot. Should have definitely be a game option.Actually I find using both the keyboard and the mouse to be more accurate than my joystick when flying - and even the keyboard can be too sensitive for small ajustments when driving so I use both for that too.

Just been testing the freetrack support. Work great! Just one thing, sometimes in aircraft when yaw is at min/max the view's switching to max/min respectively. Just my settings or anyone else getting this?
Loving the betas. Just can't wait for an official release so I can use it online. (I know I can, but no point having the grass layer if other people won't have it).

Wow, glad to see it got added.
Kudos to BI!

Wow, I had high hopes when I read the change log but after playing for two minutes I realised it's unplayable now. Stuttering everywhere, Including at the main menu. Annoying since it's fixed a few things this time round and the game has always run well for me 90% of the time.

I realise that but people with older systems should be able to turn the graphics down to get performance boost, generally speaking, even on the lowest setting there's not much of a difference in framerate.
I aplogies for derailing the thread, I just think the updates should be focusing mainly on performance issues because i'm sure they can do better. Oh, and seperate controls for planes and helos. :-)
-
When higher settings result in better performance you know something is wrong. Also, from what i've read it runs better on some older systems compared to some newer ones. Anyone saying this game is 'optimised' is just in denial. Just because it runs well for you, doesn't mean there is nothing wrong with it.
Don't get me wrong, it runs fine for me 90% of the time.

Funny, the same claim was made about the 191.03s. That should equal a 24% increase in performance then? Or up to rather. The 191.03 is the beta of this version, so no, it shouldn't.

Gaaa! You guys have jinxed me. I did seem to have analogue throttle control on choppers, messed around with controller settings a bit and now it is broken. My throttle does not respond at all in game now. :(There does appear to be some funky going on. A hot fix would be nice but I'm not gonna hold my breath. If they do fix it, I'm inclined to think it will not arrive until the next full patch.
Such a disappointment - when it was working for me earlier it was brilliant.
It's working fine for me for both planes and choppers. I tried mapping it to thrust/brake (analogue) but that actually gave me digital controls. Try mapping it to the normal thrust/brake and it works fine (0-50 being brake and 50-100 thrust).

You don't need to get that exact model. I got mine from an amazon(uk) shop (radioshack), not sure what they were but I just had to file down the tops to make them flat - just used a normal nail file for that.

Either of these would probably do.
You can even use IR leds from old tv remotes or those universal remotes you can buy for very cheap.
