@Maud'Dib, Sounds like it was the right thing to do. Sometimes mission triggers don't fire in ARAM II which seems to be the case the first time you played the mission. I didn't laser the targets when I played - I chose to take out the radar myself to limit civilian casualties. BTW, we are talking about the very first mission where you have to take out a radar or radio truck? Your description of the targets (house, T72, and AA gun) doesn't ring a bell. Amphibious Assault is the mission to get from the woods to the bigger city, IIRC.

quick question about campaign
jeffroland replied to guggy107's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Not really. I think it took me longer to play OFP but back then I was also learning the complex command system. I didn't play ARMA I but I was able to learn ARMA II fairly easy although there are some new things to learn. Another thing about ARMA II is that you will probably spend a good amount of time working around bugs and AI glitches. I probably could have completed the campaign in about 2/3 the amount of time it actually took me if there were no bugs. But don't let the bugs scare you. It's still fun if you're a fan of the original OFP. Also, you shouldn't worry about the amount of content per money spent on the game. Scenario designers have already released many single player and multi-player missions as well as a few campaigns. The replay value is infinite. Also there are new maps that you can download which are very good quality IMO. -
You probably don't need to restart. You need to clear the town of all enemy soldiers and investigate the town.
-
Did you investigate the town after the targets were blown up? See if there are any survivors in town, civilian or otherwise.
-
do you have to call in via radio to tell them you've targeted them?
-
Sorry, can't help because I chose to take blow up the target myself.
-
umm, find a different route to the sniper. BTW, please use spell checker for the sake of people who want to help out others. Punctuation is nice too. thanks

quick question about campaign
jeffroland replied to guggy107's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
the campaign is dynamic depending on choices that you make during some of the missions. But probably with any given line of the story you might get about 10 missions. But you also need to understand that Manhattan mission, and to a much greater degree, the Dogs of War mission are large sandbox type missions where you literally have multiple tasks. Dogs of War alone could have possibly been split into 5 different missions. -

I hate these stupid AI glitches, they really ruin the game. I once spent over 1/2 hour getting my guys out of the lake where the dam is because they didn't know how to follow me across the dam bridge. Anyway, try getting him back into formation and then go off in the direction that seems most logical for the AI pathing to find the hole. If that doesn't work try ordering him into a different position such as prone. then try to order him out or tell him to fall into formation. I'm not sure what else can be done except to save, reload and see if the AI decides to cooperate. -
Making Razor Team invulnerable?

I think the first time I played the campaign the Shilka was destroyed by the time I got to it. The second time I played it was not. However, once I was finally able to destroy the Shilka and able to proceed to the city, I ran maybe 150 meters past it and there were several allied units including a couple of LAVs just sitting there doing nothing. I don't understand why they didn't engage the Shilka. Surely there was LOS to it as the Shilka was patrolling the area. I enjoy the variation of the missions but sometimes I wonder why things do or don't happen. -

Yes, Ordering your squad mates to exit a helo will make the helo land. Ordering them to board a helo will also make a helo land if it is in the air. It's the only way to properly use the marine choppers. I think it took a minute or two for some CDF guy, maybe it was Marney, to come up and investigate the dead Spetznatz and realize one of them was the blond russian. You need to be in the area for this to happen. If nothing happens after a while then either you haven't really killed all of them or a trigger has failed most likely. I would replay from a previous point and try again. -
You have full control of several marine units, including M1 tanks. USE THEM. Also, the support that they give may take a bit to arrive. I can't quite remember how long it took them to arrive but it happened just as I was about to get my but kicked; they saved me just in the nick of time.

Wow, the fact that you think other games can be compared to ARMA just goes to show that you have no idea what you're talking about. Honestly it's the difference between an arcade shooter and a simulator. The AI, ballistics, sound travel, huge polygon count is soooo much greater than any other game that is out there. Quertz summed it up: ARMAII is about 8.5 gigabites in size. Since the game is only 32 bit it can only access a fraction of that at a time into memory. The game is constantly accessing the hard drive to load data, which is causing the slow dips in fps, i.e. the stuttering. THIS is the real culprit in the performance issue. You mention that your card was getting 50 fps with low settings. I'm guessing that with your good rig you can get at least 40 fps with the graphics set to max. I don't see why you're complaining. The human eye can't detect fps faster than 25. So even if you could get ARMAII up to 100fps, you'd never know the difference.
-
Langnasen, I think quertz has pretty much solved the performance issue culprit in his other thread. I suggest you buy a lot more RAM and try his technique. I can't believe you only have 2 GB RAM in that powerful rig.

Actually, that's mission 3. Mission 2 is to make it to the city from the woods.

Have you taken the main Chedaki base? -
why do you need 3000 view distance for the city? at max you need 1000. You can turn it back up after the city mission so you system will run better.

@Cuzer -
Well, I could not do the NAPA route because the guys that I was supposed to meet were dead when I got there. So I stole a car and made it back to the CDF area, I didn't even have to get real close to the CDF area before the mission ended. I was probably 1 or 2 towns away. Anyway, all I can say about the 5pm deadline is that you are meant not to make it to the Marines. They leave your a$$ no matter if you choose the CDF or NAPA. Oh yea, you can't make it anywhere near the shore anyway because of the RPG / Sniper of the GODS.
-
I did not experience any of the bugs you mention. Therefore, it's either because your ARMA just isn't working right and needs to be shut down/restarted, or it's because of failed triggers, which sometimes seems to happen. Or just restart the mission and I bet all will work better :j:

Use http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html as a basic guide to video card strength. Your ATI 9500 is wayyyyy down the list. It has about half the strength of the video card of my laptop. I get about 20 fps on average in ARMAII, medium settings.
-
Pentium 4 is only single core however the game doesn't require a dual core processor. they only say that because it's the norm now. Download the demo and try it, it can't hurt. I think your video card will be an issue though.

Here's how I got ARMA2 to perform smoothly using RAMDISK
jeffroland replied to qwertz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Am I missing something here? If one has XP 64 bit or Vista 64 bit with 12 or 16 GBs of RAM, shouldn't the game load entirely into RAM anyway? Why would you need a RAMdisk with this setup? -

LRK89, Sometimes triggers don't fire in ARMAII. I'd replay the mission from the start. As for for the invincible teammates it's probably one of those weird bugs that happens every once and a while.
