Why are they releasing Windows 7 only two years after Vista, it doesn't make sense if it really was a good product, does it?Because of slanderous, complaining, unknowledgeable and perhaps frustrated people that create these stupid rumors and spread this crap. It really is a good OS. You need to know how (And when) to use it though. Also Arma 2 is the only game I've had issues with, and its not just the fault of Windows. I wouldn't go back to XP, I have an a older computer and I have Vista on it. Its fine.
Also most OS' were released around 2 years from eachother.
Defrag your system well, find yourself a good defragging program. Or rollback the changes if you want to.
I sympathize for BIS (and all developers) because of the variety of hardware, manufacturers, and vital software relevant to gaming and computers these days. That is ludicrous. Oh and don't forget the public. That is the most terrible thing in the industry.

Arma 2 runs well enough in singleplayer 29-50 FPS, depending on the complexity of the mission. Razor Two runs at 25-36 FPS. My big problem though is that after playing for awhile i start getting crazy, quick moving large (Performance eating) triangle-ish artifacts, which will cause Arma 2 to crash (No error message, windows looking for solution dialog comes up) if I do not 'alt-tab' out and back into game.
I cannot find any .rft files after the crashes either. Where exactly would the Arma2.rft be? It seems after the crashes occasionally I can still see Arma2 process running in the task manager. No application running though.
I'm not sure why, maybe a texture/memory issue? Alt-tabbing out and back in fixes it though, (No crash at least) until it happens again.
My system specs:
~Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit with SP2
~Intel Nehalem "Bloomfield" quadcore i7 920 CPU 2.66 @ 3.0 (I've had it from 2.8-3.6 for Arma2)
~EVGA GTX 285 1GBG GPU, currently at stock clocks. (I've had it overclocked for Arma2 aswell)
~G.SKILL 3x2GB (6GB) DDR3 1333+ RAM @1500ish with faster that stock timings. (I've also had this stock clocked for Arma2.)
~GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R LGA 1366 Motherboard
~Corsair 650W Powersupply
~Antec 300 ATX Midsized Case. (Wish I would have gotten a bigger one now.. A 200 series cooler won't fit inside... Good cooling though.)
~Western Digital Caviar 640GB, 7200RPM Harddrive.
The system runs extremely stable in over other game. GTA4, Crysis, Warhead, etc. No crashes. Arma 2 also taxes the system most. It will crash while stability and performance tests will not.
I'm using the 190.38 WHQL Nvidia drivers, with Phsx uninstalled, Vsync off. Single Display mode, pre-rendered frames: 8, scene complexity on 400,000, using Nhancer, and a few other tweaks and optimizations. (Such as -winxp -maxmem=2047... Hyperthreading off...)
I keep my system defragged with 'Smart Defrag' and use a few optimization/performance programs aswell.
I also have the Steam version of Arma, but thought that is most likely irrelevant to this. Either way I'm going to 'verify cache integrity'.
I am also going to go back to stock clocks with everything, (I doubt it is an OC issue... Alt-tabbing shouldn't fix that. Could be heat perhaps...) I'll try rolling back to the drivers that the game was developed with: 185.81... Then try the tweaked version of those. I may experiment with my pagefile aswell. (9 GB) I have other things I want to try also, but any opinions and/or recommendations would be appreciated.
Its late and I may have forgot some things. I'll try and get some screenshots in the next few days. I haven't read about this before. Although once I read about someone alt-tabbing out and back in to fix his crashing, but I cannot find it again.
Thanks for any help,
Fiya
Very enjoyable game. Thanks BIS, I look forward to enjoying it even moreso.

Regarding the VSS Vintorez in the first post... The sight is NOT misaligned. The round used by the VSS has a steep arcing trajectory (Compared to other popular rifle rounds) and at short distances the round will still be arcing 'up'. (Above the 'centerpoint' of the scope.)
As this weapon was designed as a Marksman weapon of sorts, the sight is 'zeroed' at a distance further than the one you were shooting at. Try using this weapon at 50m, then 100m and finally 300m. You will see what I am talking about. Deadly weapon, if you know how to use it. Its not exactly a pick up and go rifle though... Especially when used by people who prefer western optics.
Also, you should really update the beggining post with what you said about performance, crashing, and those types of issues. So that people will stop posting what should be in the other troubleshooting threads instead.

Definitely went for Russian Bear on this one. Personally, I like their equipment alot more... VSS Vintorez, SVD Dragunov, KSVK, AK-107 w/ Kobra or PSO, Bizon, PKP, Saiga, AKS-74U, RPK, RPG-7, 18, Metis, etc. (And you can't go wrong with Smersh gear!)
Aswell as the T-90, BMP-3, BTR-90, Tunguska, Vodnick, BM-21 GRAD, Kamov 52, Mi-8, Mi-24's, SU-25, Su-34, and whatnot...
Although arguing about it is a pretty moot point. (Not to mention flame-bait...) I just prefer these, aswell as the optics.
Now I just wish I could get a AKM aswell. That 7.62 is nice to have sometimes.
