  1. Wow. The devs hav known all along about this bug and yet they can't fix it?

Yes, because it must be something extremely simple, that requires almost no effort or time. Even though I believe their is a DIY fix already. Compared to many things which do not.

You did not play the original Arma did you?...

  2. I expected more atleast that the DVD isnt required in order to play the game.

I do not want to use my precious DVD every single time i want to play ArmA2.

The Digital download version and Steam version of ArmA 2 do not require any kind of verification. They can play straight away. Please let us do the same with the boxed version of ArmA2.

Dood, your a fool. You automatically ASSUME with NO REASON. That the CD won't be needed, even though nothing of the sort was posted anywhere. It wasn't even referred to in the changelog. You assume WAY TOO MUCH.

Another epic moment unveiling the amazing abilities of our glorious mankind.

  3. Ok, just tried it out.

A2 is way better under Win 7 now (HT on) BUT, XP64 is still the clear choice as far as I am concerned.

There is still stuttering (although the processor spiking seems to be gone) that I don't get under XP64.

Just wanted to let everyone know :)

    Eth

I have completely eliminated my stuttering with Vista I believe... None whatsoever. (Before 1.03 patch.)

The 182.50 drivers seemed to have helped alot. I'm going to give it a few days though. Not sure if this is one of those 'magical performance boosts' or not.

  4. I think this is totally unneeded and a terrible idea for Arma 2.

It screams 'mainstream' and all the very negative (For a game like this) things that come along with it. This kind of thing is 'motivation' for gross elitism in many games. I don't think that's needed (Anymore than what is already here) in Arma 2.

That kind of thing is fun in other games, but I just don't think it fits well here. I don't need a rank to show other players my skill, or lack thereof. This game is based, even moreso than other games on skill coordinated with teamwork. A ranking system doesn't exactly motivate people to work as a team very much. (From my experience.) It motivates people to get all the kills/points they can.

Also, I would rather have BIS work on something other than this. If this was to be made, I would hope it would be low in priority.

    Cynically yours,

    Fiya

  5. Fiya, you sound like a broken record, who can't accept reality as it is.

Your insulting manner of writing is beyond belief and shows some serious character flaws. You sound like an angry teen in distress. Please grow up?

Reread my previous post about you, in this very thread related to this topic, as I think you did not fully comprehend their contents ( I don't want to sound like a broken record ).

I don't want to start qualifying your level of intelligence and way of communicating as it is simply not worth my time. Take your flaming habits somewhere else.

    Thank you!

Lol your unbelievable! Me? A broken record? Aren't you the one with ONLY ONE RESPONSE. (Your above response? They all say the same thing, what does it matter which I look at.) You can't even discuss anything. You have no argument, not even a real logical reason. Your like a bad politician, who after his dirty plot is discovered, keeps trying to use the same excuse.

I do have character flaws. Unfortunately for you, intelligence or a lack thereof is not my flaw.

Learn to read. Just because someone else types it, doesn't mean its not true.

Oh, also I didn't mean to be insulting, I'm trying to guilt you into reality. Apparently it doesn't work.

  6. Danny;1392809']It is not bullshit' date=' he was specifcally stating ATI graphicscard. It is well known Nvidia uses a special compatability mode to force Vsync off (and it works - just as you said). However, once again, this does not work on ATI cards.

What I stated in my post applies only to ATI + WinVista and Win7.[/quote']

I told you I had not read through the thread. I also said I do not know if it is applicable to all scenarios.

Aswell I said this. "I don't know if you were referring to it in that way or not."

I was just 'making sure' it was known. (The whole 'It is possible to force it off in Vista, through Nvidia' thing.)

  7. I believe its been stated that AA wasn't even a part of this engine.. I don't know 'when' that was stated, or if it really is the truth. I've never noticed a improvement with it on, so I left it off. Whoever said that also said that the 'fillrate' is used instead... Again, not sure if that was reliable info, but fillrate will improve the quality in generally the same way.

Unless you force it with something like Nhancer, I'm not even sure AA is applied. (Properly)

  8. Danny;1392737']As explained earlier' date=' it only works in XP.

Microsoft didnt want this for Vista and now Win7 because the [u']games[/u] themselves are supposed to have vsync options. But in BIS case, they decided to force it hence this thread.

I am on Win7 and setting vsync to "always off" does nothing in terms of framerate, its locked at 60 wherever i look.

The whole "Cannot for Vsync off in Vista" thing is bullshit. (Or at least not applicable to all scenarios) Using Nvidia Control Panel, I effectively forced it off. I get up to 130 frames in the main screen, and I've had 70's in game. (I wish all the time!)

I don't know if you were referring to it in that way or not. But it can be forced off, and I have neve had mouse lag in this game. Even before any tweaks or changes. I didn't read through this whole thread so I don't know if that was brought up... Thought I would mention it.

  9. Oh man, here we go again...

    So:

Downloaded SmartDefrag, ran it in defrag AND optimizing mode. Took several hours.

Downloaded and ran Advanced System Care, which found and removed many problems.

Downloaded and ran GameBooster, which shuts down unnecessary background processes and flushes/cleans RAM.

I started ArmAII... YES ! It runs great again, no stutter what so ever.

    I shut down ArmAII.

I restarted ArmAII with high expectations... STUTTER HELL AGAIN !!! :hang:

    I am stomped.

Setting the swap files from 4500-9000 MB (based on my 3GB RAM) didn't help either.

In my user folder I see a config file and a ArmA2profile file. The config is opened by notepad, but the profile is not recognized as notepad.

How can I open my ArmA2profile file?

How can I save my changes and configs after the game has been running great?

Can you make it last, so that it applies for the next restart as well?

Is there a solution at all ? I'm starting to doubt it myself.

The best theory I've read so far. Is there a way to force the old (good) route, that was used before the Vista update? Without a system recall?

    Many sincere thanks,

    Laggy

Yea just open both the files with notepad. It may not recognize them, but that doesn't mean it can't open them. (It or any other wordpad type program should be able to, even if it doesn't recognize it. Just manually select it if the 'Select the appropriate program" window comes up.)

What you should do is right click the files, go to properties, then make sure the "Read only" box is not marked. If it is, unmark it. Then apply.

Then start up the game and start putting your ingame settings as you would like them. (This will make Arma overwrite those files with the shiny new settings you are picking now.) Once your all done with the settings, and perhaps mapping/remapping any buttons, exit Arma once your done playing.

Open those files and if you had any tweaks you had used on them, you may want to check if they are still in there and correct. (Things like your Vram, scene complexity, or anything else you may have/want to change manually.) Make sure you save!

After this, (And assuring that you don't need to make anymore changes) go back to the files' property menu, and now make sure that the "Read Only" box is checked, then apply.

This file is where Arma gets your settings every time it starts up. Any 'tweaks' that the engine doesn't necessarily think are natural, it may overwrite. (Things that you have changed in the files.) That is why you use the "Read only" thing. So that it cannot change them. This is also why, if you have marked the file(s) as "Read Only", it will not be able to change your settings permanently.

I'm using the same programs you are, if it makes you feel any better. :)

  10. Thanks,

So what solution do you suggest?

Either backing up the file(s). Then turning off the 'read only' function for them. Let Arma 2 overwrite them, when you change the settings ingame. After you have everything the way you wanted it, check your backup for any changes or tweaks you would want to add in if needed. Re-apply the 'read only' afteward to keep the tweaks.

Or deleting the files (Config and/or profile) then letting Arma create them again and change them when you change the in-game settings.

For better performance... Just try different optimization things. Different people get very different results from different things. Different tweaks, drivers, etc. may help or hurt your performance. Find the best setup for you.

For me, stutter seems to be mission reliant. (Not very noticeable either) Currently the group of episodic missions that I am creating doesn't seem to cause any stutter, and they vary greatly.

Maybe others know exactly what is causing the stutter and have a more direct fix or fixes.

  11. i am playing the campaign, and am at the part of harvest red where i am trying to find lopotev. I am curious how on the map i can set a waypoint, so when im driving and whatnot i know where it is i am supposed to go without constantly looking at the map??

Honestly, I don't know if you can give yourself 'waypoints' as you can with your teamates. I wouldn't use it even if I could.

I would rather use the 'real life skills' to navigate. Its not that hard, do the same things you would in real life. Unless your one of those people who have to constantly look at the map in real life... Then you might have a problem.

  12. I clearly said run Crysis on High, 1680x1050. Many PCs have been able to do this with no problems since early 2008. Perhaps you misread what I wrote.

And as for it being a problem with my computer - the demo does the exact same thing on my 2nd computer, which is an E5200 (@3.2ghz), 3GB of RAM, and a Radeon 4850. So I have a hard time believing it's my two specific computers.

I'm not asking for amazing settings. I just want my native resolution, and low/medium (which is kind of a joke considering I breeze through any other game). But ArmA 2 can't even seem to give me that.

Hmm. Actually, you cannot give yourself that apparently. Most of us get along fine. Then the newbs come over and bitch about how Arma 2 sucks, is terrible, etc... When they won't seem to give it the time of day apparently. It is not a 'mainstream gaming' kind of game. I have never had any kind of mouse lag in it on my system, many people don't complain about it because they never had it. This is probably on YOUR END. Not Arma's considering. (Yes it should be optimized better, but this a full head and shoulders above any other game out there currently. I'm willing to give up amazing performance on the get-go for great and unique gameplay.)

Oh and the Crysis benchmark seems to be abit of a joke. (I don't know if you used that) I get about 20FPS higher in that than most places in the game with maxed out settings.

Arma 2's benchmark is also abit of a joke. Don't go by that. Use fraps or some equivalent, then check ingame.

Try turning Vsync off for starters. If your feeling in the mood, check the optimization threads around.

If you've played the other games of this series and enjoy them, then stick with Arma 2 and make it work. With this game you will either 'hate it or love it'. It will provide better gameplay than anything if you enjoy it.

Finally the game currently is very particular on a 'per system' basis. Different systems that are nearly the same performance wise in other games could have a huge gap between their performance in Arma 2. Sometimes even systems which are almost identical perform differently.

  13. I don't know if you know this and I am not sure if it always applies but if you get hit using the first aid modules you can crawl around and still fire your weapon. I forgot what button(s) you have to press though. I just press a bunch of random ones. You can fire your gun but your aim is HORRIBLE and you can't reload and you can only crawl forwards and turn. It might be the roll left/right button or it could just be some other movement or fire button.

@thafunkster: There should be another soon but I would download 1.02 anyway.

I don't believe that applies to all the first aid modules. There is a few different versions and they are all a fair bit different. But the button you are referring to is whatever you have the 'sprint' button mapped to. Default is W pressed twice quickly.

  14. Interesting observations regarding my stutter problem:

Like I mentioned in the first post, the stutter problem originally went away with physX turned OFF, until my wonderful Vista updated itself. Then my problem returned again and now there is no solution.

I have created a "Lag test" mission in Chernogorsk, with many groups.

1- The stutter has absolutely nothing to do with number of units on the map (within viewDistance), so it is not an "overload" lag. One single unit in the same place makes no difference. It only happens when moving, like every 20 meters or so in any direction, almost like some kind of invisible grid.

2- While playing around with physX ON or OFF before starting the game + turning video memory to Normal or Very-High, I have noticed this: The game can all of a sudden run great with no stutter. Steady FPS between 17-23. I then turn off ArmAII and restart with the identical settings... stutter hell. Terrible FPS drops down to as low as 6... unplayable.

There is obviously something with the settings that doesn't stay after turning off ArmAII.

When the game runs great I have just turned physX OFF, before starting up, but the settings no longer last for more than that particular ArmAII session.

    Any ideas?

    Laggy

You have edited a profile or config, then marked them as 'read only' perhaps. This prevents the game from overwriting them, therefore keeping them till the next session.

  15. Yay for others seeing how RIDICULOUS and BIASED p75 and his poll are. Never mind his extremely ironic behavior and attitude.

p75 needs to DISCUSS something, if he wants to have a discussion. He is doing nothing of the sort. He is not even tickling the idea of something other than his ideals being in some outlandish way, right.

He is being unbelievably closed minded in this and his responses really show what this poll is worth. Nothing. Nothing at all. Might aswell have asked the public if they like apples or oranges better, then brought that up with BIS. As it has been stated by others aswell as myself, in order for this poll it be worth anything, it needs to be done differently.

Closing the discussion on this to his 'scope' is nothing more than ignoring plain and clear facts. The 'scope' of this poll as he puts it would (Again...) make this poll and its outcome worth NOTHING.

Please come back to reality p75. Perhaps having more than just one person showing you your faults will help you realize them.

Aswell, your the one not able to 'communicate on a normal level'. You ignore everything that is not in your favor.

    Ignorant cat is ignorant. :)

  16. The typical juvenile thinking that being a moderator adds more neurons to brains and suddenly knows whats better for the others, so they take the freedom to control other people actions.

No, my friend, there is freedom of speech everywhere, both the forum and the users benefit from forum posts, there is no privilege of using a forum especially when people paied money for their product.

Sometimes the progress comes from contradictory discussions, not to mention that banning people lowers the forum exposure so the traffic etc.

The fact they allow the freedom of expression is a plus for this forum, that's why most of the people voted in their favor. You really need to grow up.

What? You need to go back and re read his post. You have taken his post the wrong way. He is saying generally the same thing you are. 'The forums are moderated well' in a nutshell. No need to go bananas.

Oh and if you haven't noticed some stuff in these forums are completely ludicrous. The Mods have been very lenient compared to what I believe they should have been.

Also, no there is not (Absolute) free speech and freedom of expression everywhere. (At least in the way many people like to take that these days....) Legally, everything on the forums, BIS has to own up to. They have the right to control what they need or want to.

Aswell, this thread looks like it may be technically breaking the forums rules that everyone agreed to. Its not specified exactly under the heading, but the heading includes it in the generalization. :P "§18) No public discussion on how the forum is moderated" :P

  17. Fair enough.

And we really dont need an explanation about "yes".

Imho this poll is alittle strange. "Yes" is abvious, "no" needs an explanation. Thats why I never used the poll. It seems that the question should be about the level of importance for BIS to implement it. "How much should they prioritize this feature?" would make more sense I think.

Regardless, you gave me a clear answer and I thank you for that.

This is a feature wanted since many years and the engine in itself doesnt support it. The system for huds, overlays and animations cant do much (we had moving maps on some huds in OFP, but that was an animation and no real picture rendered).

So unless BIS do something about it I dont think we will see it. If they do implement it, it will probably mean less focus on other important things like bug-fixing and optimising for performance. A big change in the engine like this will probably mean that new problems and bugs arise. If it was easy for BIS and without much risk I guess BIS would already implemented it??

I guess the only hope we have is for someone to use some Kegetys on this issue ;)

So my personal answer is; Yes, I would like that feature. No, its not worth it for BIS to implement it IF it means that they have to take manpower from fixing the existing issues (bugs, performance) or if it means big rewrites of the engine is necessary (much time=money spent for BIS for only one feature when they could use that on other issues).

Perfect post! Maybe you can convince p75, since my arguments are taboo.

With a little fore-thought, one could come to the conclusion that if people thought this was important and needed they would vote it a higher priority. (On your poll based on importance/priority.) This would replace the bland 'Yes' answer with something of more value that gives alot more information aswell.

Since this thread doesn't have those type of options, p75 does not know what 'the voters' think about its importance or 'should be priority. The most he can assume (Without having any doubts) is that they would want it if time was absolutely not relevant. (Since that is the 'Scope' he wants to put it in.) If BIS had nothing to work on at all except this. If he assumes any more, he could be stepping on toes.

This poll currently proves nothing of substance other than what was stated above (The bold) which isn't likely to happen. Therefore this poll is more likely to be taken advantage of and used the wrong way, since it has no real use otherwise.

Finally, I am NOT just stating 'no' over and over again. I am agreeing with someone and trying to enhance my explanation aswell as trying to discuss it.

Thank you Andersson, your post was a breath of fresh air.
