LoL, I wasn't suggesting that $100 would fund the development -- $100 is the average price that a new game costs on the store shelf here :p

Give us the AI code. We can help.
ActionMan replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I know you're joking, but like I said, other games such as Half-Life 1 and 2 have released their games entire source code (not internal engine code though) and in return they've got some very high quality mods.Counter-strike was originally a half-life mod, now it's massive... -
WinXP 32bit. Good performance on 1.02 and 1.03. Haven't really noticed any difference. Q6600, 2GB 800Mhz RAM, GTX260, 7200RPM SATA

Fragmentation is a side effect of the file system (i.e. the software logic for arranging files on the physical disk), not the physical drive. So yes, SSDs suffer from fragmentation as well. Also, once an SSD is fragmented, its performance drops much more than a HDD does, so it's important to keep SSDs clean and defragged.

And that's why BeerHunter is asking for the code :p -
I would pay $100 for a remake of the OFP campaign ;) IMO it's a lot better than ArmA or ArmA2 (but to be fair I'm only 25% of the way thru Arma2 at the moment).

ActionMan replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
A lot of the problems with the AI would obviously go beyond the FSMs and related data. For example, crappy path-finding and obstacle avoidance, line of sight determination, audio sensors etc... All of this stuff I'm guessing is coded in the actual engine.Other games like Half-Life 1/2, FEAR, etc have released their entire AI code-bases, which has been great for modders. The issues that I mentioned above have been there since OFP, so I don't think they're high on BI's priority list. I for one would definitely lend a hand if I had access to the code for the AI's low-level systems. -
ARMA2 & OA's Steam Thread: All Steam Q's/discussions go here [covered by Dwarden]
ActionMan replied to gimpymoo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
You can't... unless you backed up the game (using the steam backup system) before downloading the patch. If you did make a backup, then uninstall and reinstall from the backup (and be sure to turn of automatic updating). -
Retard AI can't walk in straight lines ?
ActionMan replied to Moosed's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I see your point, but this same issue can be annoying when you're the one leading the squad...E.g. you tell razor team to form column compact & return to formation, but for some reason one of them decides to leave the group and walk around the block instead :/ When you give an order to a highly trained soldier, but he ignores it and runs of to get killed (Which fails your mission!) you can't help but be frustrated by this. -
ARMA II Patch 1.03 & Dedicated Server Released .
ActionMan replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Flouncy said he's in Aus with capped internet, then I said that I'm in Aus with a crappy 4GB cap too. You told Flouncy that it's his fault for having capped internet, and insulted him without knowing any facts, and seeing I'm in the same situation you're insulting me as well. Now tell me, why is it my fault that this part of inner-Sydney only allows for "broadband" via the 3G network? -
ARMA II Patch 1.03 & Dedicated Server Released .

The patch has introduced an issue where I can't play multi-player any more. All the servers have a red X next to them!? Does anyone else have this

ARMA II Patch 1.03 & Dedicated Server Released .
ActionMan replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Its an issue for all ArmaII+Steam owners. The steam version of the patch downloads an entire data file instead of just the parts that changed... My monthly quota is 4.0GB :( :butbut:  -
I'd wait until BIS fixes the way their patches work on Steam at the moment ;) I'd much rather have a disc in my drive right now rather than be wasting gigabytes of my download quota...

ARMA II Patch 1.03 & Dedicated Server Released .
ActionMan replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
So...We can either say: "Lets hope Steam adapts to BI's way of updating files" OR: "Lets hope BI adapts to Steam's way of updating files" This huge-download issue can be fixed by either party... -
They didn't forget, they did it for some kind of super obvious reason that we have to figure out for ourselves... :/
-
How about instead of adding "spread" like in most games, you just add "spread" to the crosshair. In other words, the gun still shoots in a straight line (instead of spread in a large cone), but the crosshair will be placed somewhere in a "spread cone" instead of being in the correct location.

ARMA II Patch 1.03 & Dedicated Server Released .
ActionMan replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
OMG... my monthly download limit is 4GB. ARMAII Steam version already used up two whole months of downloads for me, now it's going to use up a 3rd month? Why do I have to love this game so much :P -
Yeah this really annoys me too. I'm guessing (and hoping!) we can already fix this in the controls menu, but I haven't looked yet ;P
-
The AI seems to get dumber as the frame-rate drops, sometimes with too many units the AI won't even shoot/see each other... I think the game spends a fixed percentage of each frame doing AI "thinking".

Faster moves for a better simulation
ActionMan replied to pluton88's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Driving is fine - to learn how to drive in Arma, just look at the steering wheel for the first few times. You'll realise that pressing A/D or moving the mouse left/right actually rotates the steering wheel (i.e. it steers indirectly) - it doesn't directly turn like in other games. If you find yourself zig-zagging off the road, then you're not allowing yourself enough time to rotate the wheel around before accelerating. Try using the mouse with *gentle* movements and keep an eye on the rotation of the wheel. I find driving in Arma very enjoyable once you get the hang of steering in this indirect fashion. -
Clunky Controls?? Try using VAC

Thanks for the tip, I'm an OpFP veteran so I've got all the numbers engraved in my brain, but being able to fire off commands quicker would be cool.BTW I did just spend AU$240 on a new TrackIR 5 :o -
*bump* I'm always holding down NUM- while driving a vehicle... which makes it very hard to steer ;) I would love it if the toggle option actually worked.

I love those cute little choppers. I always put at least one in any custom mission that I made ;)
