Here's what cheezes me about all the pre-rendered. Ok, in 2007... they started, they then made more in 08..... and even up until 3 months prior to launch... after many project restarts etc.... they were still posting pre-rendered. Then E3 happened. Then we saw video's of what became final.... labeled "work in progress." They were still passing pre-rendered off as final beta nearly until launch. I'm fine with early concept video's, but to show pre-renders, and not stating that they are in game or concept 2-3 months prior to launch is DECEPTION. You know, when I first launched the game, I hadn't seen any real "in game" footage. I wasn't following DR much cause I know CM as a marketing company with some software.... When the screen faded from black to game, for the first time. My jaw dropped. Literally. Wife was in the room and I literally said "WTF is this?" I backed out and checked what limited video options there was. Nothing. Went back in game, started to move. WTF? I can't really run? Disappointment was instant and was in shock. Then I moved to the first contact, pop goes the AI. I side step by instinct and they don't even shoot me. Not even in my general direction. "holy schmikies!" uh... ok. Instead of "shock and awe" in the positive sense I was in "shock and disbelief." I trod up the hill to the radio tower unopposed. All the radio chatter, and music, and "oh boy oh boy" excitement... Some AI jumps out like "surprise". I go. "meh." mow em down with no fear. Blow up the high value tower that should have been guarded by nearly everything. Call in the arty. move down the hill to the village..... not really get in the village, but just sorta to it. shoot a couple pixels and then told to go back to meet AI that are in the exact spot we spawned at, WTF? Where did these guys come from? 5 hours later. rolling the broken credits...... I was just going "wow", just "wow" what a pile of garbage.

Why is this game not more popular?
-RIP- Luhgnut replied to LockDOwn's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Two things come to mind for "why not?". 1) Marketing - The cost of marketing is extremely high and is getting higher. The big publishers can use the revenues from their constant stream of games being released to push a certain title in the mags and websites and keep the game in front of gamers as needed. BIS produces what, VBS and Arma2 and they are not the same market. A single full page ad in a magazine a month can cost from $5,000 - $10,000 depending on placement. Say they placed in 5 mags and big gaming sites, could easily be $50,000 a month US. 2) Depth of game. What makes Arma2 great is also a weakness when it comes to the "casual gamer". IMO, people want to be told what to do, but not know they are being told what to do. Go here, capture that, rinse repeat. Join a multiplayer game in COD etc, and it's the same thing, everybody runs and caps objectives. You don't have to talk to anybody, you don't have to know anything, you just join, look at the map, and run in that direction. Arma2 is so vast and capable of nearly anything, and people don't take the time to "think". I gave a copy of the game to a former marine friend for Christmas, he loaded it up and enjoyed the campaign, but when it came to mp, he just spawned in and said "I don't know what to do." Join a Domination server and look at it like you've never seen it played before, you would go, "I don't know what to do." Every day I learn something new in Arma2. In COD etc, you can learn pretty much everything there is in an hour of play. In Arma2? You're still messing with your gun and vehicles. :) Some people want to be lead down a path, and others want to find their own way. Casual gamers want to be lead down a path. And sadly, I feel this is a growing majority. ---------- Post added at 08:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:12 AM ---------- There are tools and addons available that allow you to do all that you're asking for. I never use the Arma2 lobby interface. Learn to use Yoma's addon sync, and the mods that the server you want to play will download. More servers should use it though. -
but it runs so smooth!

two of those missions are mine. I can put together cool little co-op or pvp missions in Arma2 in no time. Can do one during lunch. With the tools released for Arma2, I just use template missions, alter them and you have a new mission. It's possible because new tools and utilities are released constantly. With DR, it's nearly start from scratch, since the editor is so limited and no tools at all unless you think coding lua from scratch every time is a benefit.

Go to armaholic.com and see what gets released for Arma2 in 24 hours. Then look to what has been released for DR in a month.

All of a sudden: No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgVehicles/JeepWreck1.scope'

I get this message on boot and anytime I try to add anything in the editor. What is it? How can I fix/get rid of it? -

Fixed - found a whacked out .pbo file in my Addons directory that must have got unzipped during a mod install. -
now it's a pixel hunt and the "answer" is to put an X over the enemy. So what, "O" is friendly, "X" is enemy? Then you could show the tether and you would have "Dragon Rising: Operation Tic-Tac-Toe"

ANNOUNCE: PVP script pack released

bug in PvP Mission Wizard actually menu display not bug.... On hud tab. displaying score, show clock, and objectives.... If you click them to YES, they don't show, if you flip to NO, they show up. The wording is backwards. -
I mod Doom I rule. Bow down to me naive.

yeah, that's the first thing I thought, so tried vanilla and still does it. I'm baffled. -
The fingers all point to one person Lenton. SION LENTON It's his job as the Executive Producer to merge development and marketing together. If there's a "mis-communication" it's his fault, his fault alone and is ultimately responsible for the success or (in this case) failure of the title. From watching his glamorous TV and E3 interviews, it's obvious that A) He didn't play the game B) He loves to glam for the camera C) He didn't play the game D) He loves to glam for the camera E) Is an idiot.

Riddle: What stands 4 feet tall but has no legs.. Has Eyes, but cannot see. Runs as fast as lightning, but does not move. Has lived forever, but never been born. Answer: This damn thread that is going on for so long that I have no understanding for why the obsession. Sort of like going to the freak show, and getting a donut for showing up in the first place.

Operation: Silent Viper - Released

you're in for a bit of a surprise with this one. :) -
Some guy on one of my youtube DR bashing video's explained to me the technical nuances of Dragon Rising AI. After a nice read, I realized that CM must have been shipping psychedelic mushrooms in some of their boxes as a prize or something. That the DR AI are so smart that they will adjust to your style of game play automatically to always make it tough on you. Ok, explain to me then how I completed the first mission without firing a shot. Can stand back with my grandfathers squirrel rifle at 200 meters and pick em off like rabbits in a cage? And so, the gaming community looses another I.Q. point and the gene pool get's more polluted.
-
Okay everybody send CM $10.00
-
ok, everybody send 4 IN 1 $10.00

Have a great idea for a mod for Dr. Go to Staples and get one of those orange sticky dots you stick on shit. one of those little ones. find the center of your screen and stick the dot. Download his new mod. Now all your weapons will hit dead center. Now give me $10.00 each for this.
-
yay new weapon mods, to run around the same empty island, with! I'm sure all four of DR fans out there are excited.

heh MehMan. nice. /salute

heh - 294 now. prolly my highest count was when Atari produced Alien vs. Predator for the Atari Jaguar, and I actually got my hands on the original un-compiled code. Atari was saying how so much was in the game and lying, and I'm sitting there looking at the code. That got pretty debated. ---------- Post added at 10:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:03 AM ---------- lol. funny, I actually own both. Hyundai Sante-Fe: Paid off BMW Z4: Far from paid off and the damn cup holders keep breaking at $80 each. I can replace BMW cup holders in my sleep.

If you would have shut up just saying your opinion, which I took as advice, it would have been fine. I explain that it's not needed in Arma2. You reply that the arma2 editor is sad because it doesn't give you the ability to micromanage your AI. I'm then shocked that you think having the ability or need to micromanage your AI is a bonus in DR. You have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to arma2. Nothing. You can't even command your troops to exit a vehicle, but you're so willing to give your insight into something you know nothing of. I have over 2 dozen maps published with thousands of downloads, and played on many servers. I have clans putting in orders and requests for missions in Arma2. My point being, is that I know a tad bit more than you in the A2 editor. You have what, one, maybe two published for DR? And now you're an expert critic of Arma2 editor?? Go micromanage your AI, I'll go build a war. If you have a problem with me, fine, bring it. But to call the rest of the community "dicks" because I post my personal opinion, is moronic. I do recall when you released your "Ultimate Roam" mission for DR, I actually sent you a PM from an account that you didn't recognize. Yes, that was me. I applauded your work. You attacked me not even knowing who I was, and were too stupid to even know that I was giving you kudo's. I asked a question in that PM that was not pointed at you or anything, it was an honest question, and you attacked me for no reason what-so-ever. To attack someone that actually gave you praise in a PM, got me wondering if you had "issues". Yeah surprise. to get back on topic: Dragon Rising sucks. ---------- Post added at 10:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:43 AM ---------- One: When you say the A2 community are "dicks" you ARE talking to them. Two: They weren't trolling. When you address the whole community and they respond. They aren't trolling. The poster of the "dicks" comment is the troll. Trolling is when you address the whole community as "dicks". That is trolling. You don't even know the difference.

ANNOUNCE: PVP script pack released
-RIP- Luhgnut replied to sbsmac's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : Community Made Utilities
for a test I created a new map. Just me, set three objectives and ran to the first neutral. and waited and waited. It didn't do anything. Then I spawned myself in as Opfor on other end of map, ran to 3rd objective and waited. and waited. still didn't cap. So it was... Bluefore --> objective_1< --->objective_2<----> objective_3<-----Opfor nothing would cap. -
no, it's not needed in Arma2. Why would I want to manually micromanage the thought processes of a few hundred troops? waste of time. I tell them where I want them, and they take care of the rest. All I have to do is count how many ai are in the area, and if less than a certain amount and there's more ai in another... off they go. I couldn't imagine figuring out who's attacking and who's defending ..... micromanagement to the extremes! You mean you actually do this in DR? If you do this, that's just another massive failure for DR. It keeps getting worse and worse, the more you learn about it. You remind me of a Fortran programmer of the 70's, great language, very powerful, worthless by today's standards. And to say that it's terrible if the Arma2 editor fails in this? It's not in there because the ENGINE handles the micromanagement. Not the level designer. Hilarious.
