I hate waiting for my instant gratification. -
What if Rockstar hooked up with Bohemia to make ARMA game.
-RIP- Luhgnut replied to avibird 1's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
No no no. When you get a big ass publisher, they start dictating what needs to be done in the game to "sell it." That's crap. -
Comedian Robin Williams plays A1/A2???

man, you guys need to go "outside" more. Rumor has it that there is a place called "outside". -

ANNOUNCE: PVP script pack released
-RIP- Luhgnut replied to sbsmac's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : Community Made Utilities
ok, you're sorta jumping around on the steps. if you're going to use the wizard, it will create the necessary folders etc, after you're done editing. It looks like you're confusing the wizard with the script pack. Use either the script pack, or the wizard. I wouldn't suggest using both. Do this, edit the mission you want with the editor. Place the markers as required. Start learning with a basic Capture the Flag Mission. You will need the following markers minimum: Place 1) respawn_west 2) respawn_east 3) eflag 4) wflag put a single soldier west soldier in the respawn_west marker save it as a user mission. fire up the wizard. click on "show missions that don't use the script pack" click on the mission you just saved "it should be in shaded text". Load it, it will then convert to current wizard level. alter the mission parameters for it and save. when you save, it should build everything for you... you won't have to move any of the script pack stuff. go back into arma2 editor and reload it, and test it. You can either Export to Multiuser or save it as a pbo in the wizard. once you learn it this way, you can start just using the wizard as primary and only use the arma2 editor for tuning. You're trying to make an advanced mission without learning the basics. I've done several missions like the beloved Joint Ops missions. It's not "quite" the same but close. Also, some PBO's don't import well into the wizard. Open the Pbo into the wizard, but when you save, it may crush the init. files. Learn the basics, then very soon, you will be able to use any of the islands and whip out a JO mission quickly without messing with someone elses pbo's. -
Long ago, I remember seeing a post from Dwarden regarding not being able to patch the steam version (buried in the forums). Situation: After installing the STEAM version and trying to patch, you get error messages. Also appears that it effects DVD owners as well. Here's Dwarden's original post (this is for the BETA, but works with major patch as well.): ----------------------------------------- FIX / WORKAROUND for the beta failing to install on STEAM build: use registry editor add registry key into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2 new String value name it "MAIN" (w/o "") then place into it same content like is already in key "path" (e.g. "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Common\ARMA 2" w/p "" again) that's all and now the installer sees Your STEAM game ------------------------------------------------------------- Follow this and it patches clean both XP and Win 7x64. The reason: Steam does not update your registry consistently with the direct path for the steam install. I was digging around in my registry and saw that there was no directory listing Arma2. Then I remembered this post from September. The only entry was for my CD key. It assumes that Steam is running in the default directory. I load Arma2 off another drive/directory because it's a faster drive. The patch installs fine if it's your OS partition that you're running and default program path. Other than default, it blows up. Put this in exactly as shown and make sure it points EXACTLY to your arma2 directory. The problem is two fold: 1) steam doesn't put the direct path to Arma2 in your registry. 2) patch assumes that steam knows where the install path is. Apparently Win7 64 wants the exact placement of the arma2 files and when it doesn't see it, it starts to error out. ------------------------------------------------------------- edit: it would be easy to fix this if the patcher would ask you where your arma2 installation is, and then make a registry edit to reflect that input. Or if somebody would write a little proggy that would ask you where it is, and make the registry change for you for this problem. I'm not a programmer, but I don't think it would be much work. --------------------------------------------------------------- I'm going to go start drinking.

Well I wanted a Blu-Ray and at the time, it was cheaper to get the PS3 with a great sony blu-ray player in it (Sony does put their best Blu-Ray player in the PS3) and I THOUGHT some games would be halfway good, but they are short, lifeless, and shallow.
-
Seriously, I go into Gamestop every once in a while cause a friend works there. I go to the console wall-o-crap and stare at it. I'm actually looking for something that is good that will justify why I have a brand new Ps3 in the living room on a 60Inch HDMI and it never gets used unless it's watching Blu-Ray. I can't find a single thing that isn't kiddy, or has been done over and over a million times. Everything is regurgitated stuff.

I'm sorry, I don't take the Wii seriously. AT ALL. You can beat 90% of console games in a single day. I think BioShock being the only one that I was even remotely interested in, and got that for PC. Consoles good for a days' worth of "meh". PC games (good pc games) 40 hours minimum is the norm.

tennis on a Wii. Oh hold back the excitement. Madden on Ps2. PS2 .... goly jeepers. what have I been missing?

Why is this game not more popular?
-RIP- Luhgnut replied to LockDOwn's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
yeah, I'm with Mr. Speed on this one. You can tell what's running but you need to know what you're looking for. But take the time to learn, and it's fine. ---------- Post added at 03:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:42 PM ---------- cause right now, the whole server will lag when it sends you all the updates you should have downloaded prior. why should everyone on the server wait for you to get the download? then take that times 20 as everyone connects. not meaning "you" you. just in general -
consoles. There is a market for them, but seriously, every time I fire up a console game, I feel like someone is insulting me and I'm paying them for the privilege to do so. Things that make console players go goofy with excitement, don't even give me a tickle.
-
no, the "other thing" didn't sell for nothin. Face it, if it was a "hit" then they wouldn't have abandoned it within 4 months. Actually it was abandoned in 2.5 months, but not official. If you had a hen laying platinum eggs, would you cut it's head off?

yeah they just got a bail out from some guys that made some money off games in the 80's. Somebody posted the names and the press release on the other thread. But the financial sector reports that they have been loosing money hand over fist. Now with another full blown in house project, you know it's going to be pricey. Here's a blog that keeps track of CM First they lay off the US branch office. Cancel Heist. DR fails. They expand their U.K. offices with this new injection of cash. So with no other games in development except this new "nice.." shooter, it appears that anyone and everyone is working on one title now. They better sell a copy to every console owner out there to make back that sort of cash. Also they said should be out in a year. Well knowing them, make it two, wrap some slick marketing and promotional around pre-post launch, and you got one expensive development release title. I see this as a "hail Mary" pass. For people outside the US not familiar with US football. Imagine kicking a soccer ball the length of the field (pitch) and 3 seconds left in the game. That's about the same. Furthermore, I only see this title being developed for consoles. Good.

no it's not the music. it's the rebroadcast of the interview with Lenton.

Here's the exact words from his appearance on that POS video game show. This is done 3 weeks prior to launch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQyU3Sfquhk this is one of my vids, with Squig (brother in law that is now stationed in Kuwait)

Will you buy Arma 3 if they will ever release one?
-RIP- Luhgnut replied to goldkid80's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
fix your computer. jeez. runs fine on a phenom 2 and a 9800GTX+ card. seriously. if you guys would just spend some time tuning and getting rid of the crap on your pc's it will run better. Seriously. this is getting old. -
Simple question for someone considering to buy the game
-RIP- Luhgnut replied to Tom1's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I'm a level 50 Squad Leader. I hit for 1200 dps with a ammo regen of +3 per tick. Have at ya! -
Here's the sad truth to all this. Within 24 hours of a titles release. There is a crack for it. No matter the protection, they can crack it nearly as soon as it's released. They crack the protection faster than the publisher can get fixes out for the legit copies that fail on your system.

remember when that press release was made. Look at the date of the launch and look at the date of the press release. 5 -7 days between them. (based on regional launch date). At this point the game has gone gold, meaning HE SIGNED OFF ON IT. So he would have had to play it to sign off. That tells me only one thing. He's a bold face liar, and/or the most inept producer ever. ---------- Post added at 10:19 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:08 AM ---------- nobody really bought the game retail shelves anyway. Cept the console guys. They didn't ship many pc copies in boxes. Most was all D/L. The beauty and curse of Digital Download for developers.... Pro: Saves costs on producing hard print, media, shipping, packaging and fighting for shelf space. Con: Targets more tech aware players, casual players will still stay to retail. So most people with Digital Download (the most popular form of distribution) are more aware of gaming (purchase) process and will tend to do more investigative work prior to purchase. I bet after the constant negative reports from players, in the forum would hurt the purchase almost instantly. Even if I do a digital download, I do more reading and checking out prior to punching in my ccard.

Here's what really killed it for me within 10 seconds of the starting scene/mission one. Notice the HUD in Arma2. It's clean. With a 25inch HDMI monitor it's very pretty. Then DR pops on. I got all this shit all over. Big ass Minimap, Big ass icons showing me where to go, big ass weapon displays. Horrible graphics. Yeah, sure you can shut them off on higher game modes but then you have no idea where to go. The veterans of DR say "Yeah? play it on veteran and see how tough the game is." Well it doesn't change the AI smarts, and only removes the hud. Then you have no information. So it's the choice of big ass hold your hand graphics or spending hours looking for how to finish the objective. And running / slogging back and forth. Every time I see a video of this pile, I just look at that hud and go "ugh". Nice..... ---------- Post added at 11:36 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:20 AM ---------- Remember this gem? Date 10/2/09 just a week before launch. From the CM Press Release kit. EXPERIENCE THE STUNNING ‘LOOK & FEEL’ OF WAR IN NEW OPERATION FLASHPOINT®: DRAGON RISING DEVELOPER VIDEO 02.10.09 Taking gamers even further behind the scenes of Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, Codemasters® today released the latest in a series of developer insight videos featuring the much anticipated military shooter. In the ‘Look & Feel’ video, now available to view at www.flashpointgame.com, key development team members discuss just how far they’ve gone to ensure that Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will take players as close to war as they’ll ever want to get. “When we were doing the motion capture for Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, we went to incredible lengths to get the real guns†explains Executive Producer Sion Lenton. “This is because the weight of the guns can actually affect the way the animation looks.†“Every vehicle in Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising has its own characteristics: look, handling, turnout, weaponry and so on,†Lenton continues. “Everything from the smallest jeep to the largest chopper has a completely different handling experience.†“The damage in Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is pretty gruesome,†says Mike Smith, Art Lead “It’s pretty much realistic – if you get hit by a large round, you’re very likely to have serious trauma to your body. We represent damage with several different visual stages. For example, you’ve got blood that seeps through clothes and then you’ve got catastrophic damage, which is actually losing your limbs or having your head blown off.†Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will set the new standard for sandbox shooters when it arrives October 6th (US) / 8th (EPAC) / 9th (UK) for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PC. Feel the terror of war with the new developer video, now available online at www.flashpointgame.com. Gamers can also receive the latest updates as they happen by signing up to Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/flashpointgame or Follow developments straight from the studio on Twitter - http://twitter.com/flashpointgame. --------------- Incredible. At the point of this statement, the disk had gone gold and was already in production. He doesn't bold face lie, but bullshits.

Note to self: Stop feeding trolls. Thus endith my self taught lessonith.

Either he didn't play the game AT ALL (Lenton) or he was lying. Either way, pretty pathetic.

thx Mysh ---------- Post added at 12:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:55 PM ---------- yeah the good games in that list were developed by somebody else, and they only published. Wife and I played LOTRO and that was good, but Turbine did it. I think it's only housed off CM servers. You know there isn't anything on that list that I would actually purchase that was Developed by CM.

way'>http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/not-for-dragon-rising-anyway Here's a good thread. CM started as Publishers yes. Then there was a big potential to recruit newly graduated people from the local programming/game development schools started with the help of Peter Molyneux. I've documented the relationship between Molyneux and CM. So they have a cheap work force, fresh out of school around the corner. Produce mediocre games, hype them in the Molyneux style, and you have the now famous British Gaming Industry. They don't know how to develop a game. It's simply outside their level of understanding.
