  1. Only some weapons use tracers....

P.S: Try playing with the editor until you can learn how to shoot properly... this may seem an offensive remark to you, but we all have been in that situation....

Learn how to use the optics... the reflex scopes and all...

There are some user made shooting range missions out there... quite useful!

Also use the right mouse button while you're shooting... besides zooming, the RMB controls breathing!

  2. Use the arty on the camp....

All you have to do after is drive your APC and kill the remaining soldiers... usually 4 or 5...

Then search for the body... (pick one of your guys, go to action menu and "search body").

I didn't even met Boomerang when I accomplished the mission.

You can also make use of the hellfires on the uav to take out the armor at the base. That's assuming the uav hasn't already crashed itself into the side of a hill while you weren't looking, which it often does.

As I've been stating in numerous threads, the UAV locking system is broken after 1.3... at least for the official missions.

  3. The artillery bug is linked with capturing the woman me thinks.

IMO is related with helo usage...

Because when you board the helo the drop off menu appears immediately.

So if you accidentally cancel it and then ask for the helo again, it will be an evacuation instead of a drop off (notice the dialog).

After patch 1.3 this seems to be more or less solved.

Especially if you use arty first like I suggested. It can still happen, but it's a lot less frequent.

P.S: it's more convenient to use the APC when hunting for camps... just a tip.

  4. I did my first town by leaving Razor by the starting point.... and went lone wolf from the West, while the rest charged from the East....

    They were obviously decimated...

But I managed to do the rest on my own!

Other towns are complete bollocks... those APCs they have, shred my BDMs apart...

It's trial and error and a lot of force rebuilding...

Especially when your gunner is f***ing blind!

P.S: I'm having a lot of crashes! I never had problems with crashes before... made a thread in the troubleshooting section...

I was in the town centre when the APC arrived, and the villagers and the priest stood there discussing the ethics of fighting wars etc, then the APC took off. I went around looting bodies (found the RPG), then joined it. There were troops around it, but none appeared to be "crewmen". I tried to enter it, but there was no "get in" icon or command that I could find, just "lock APC" and "unlock APC".

Yes, the APC and the infantry around it are on my Map as NATO symbols, but I can't click on them to get an individual vehicle or platoon/section, nor can I drag a box around them to select them all.

Frustrating having all these troops and not being able to turn them into "cannon fodder" and soften up the defences before the "mighty USA" arrive (Gee...where have I heard THAT before?...America turning up late to a war, mopping up and proudly declaring they won the whole thing for us?).

OK...enough yank bashing, or they won't help me anymore. I'll just "hang around the first village until trucks arrive, and bring supplies. I'll try to get in that APC some more. Seems to me to be a waste of money to buy another if I can use that one. A sniper rifle would be nice. I'll leave my team and the rebels there, and do a couple of sniping missions on machine gun nests and AT troops and call them in to mop up.

Just a tip: play the High Command part of the tutorial...

  5. I once had the incredible, marvelous, wonderful, (insert adjective here) experience: as I was being transfered by STF21, the UAV hit the helo as it was hovering!

How's that for a one in a million situation?

P.S: The UAV is quite useless in 1.3, you can only mark locations with it... you can't kill anything.

Also it tends to crash/get shot after 10-15 min mission time... so my advice: use it as soon as you've been debriefed!

Another note, if you locate the main camp with the UAV, and bomb the shit out of it with the arty support, 9/10 your helo won't go missing anymore....

  6. VRAM stands for Video RAM - it is the RAM that is on your graphics card. However, I knew what I was saying. There is a but that if you have more normal system RAM, it doesn't correctly auto detect your VRAM. It was meant to be fixed but has not been.

In Bohemia's words from the 1.02 change log - "Fixed localVRAM detection on Vista x64 systems with 8 GB RAM and more" - this bug is still present in 1.03 sadly.

    Oh ok!

    Sorry then!

Didn't know about that... just thought you had it mixed...

    2 MBs LOL!!!!

  7. When Im playing ArmA, I often need to minimize to check x-fires, teamspeak, youtube etc...

To minimze, I use Alt+Tab, and half of the time this works fine with no problems.

However, often when I hit alt+tab the game window stays open, but mouse control goes onto the desktop. Essentially, the ArmA II screen stays open, but the cursor is controlling the desktop. When this happens it is often impossible for me to close the game without restarting my PC.

I get similar issues with other minimizing controls, such as Cntrl+Alt+Delete.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to how I might fix this, or another way in which I might minimize the game without shutting it down?

    Thanks,

    Leving.

I can alt-tab, effectively, given I'm not in the editor and I'm not zooming.

In either of those situations, I can't get alt-tab to work properly.

A consequence of alt-tab and Arma's behavior, is that when you alt-tab back to the game, the game re-loads all the textures.

This often can cause crashes while saving... I suspect due to bad memory handling by Arma.

  8. I took the town, but now I'm not sure what to do. Cooper (me) said something about going to "Point Hood" so I did. that's it. the only task I have is to find another piece of evidence. I'll keep plugging away. But, thanks for the advice so far guys.

    You're supposed to take 4 (?) towns...

And after you took the 1st you're supposed to set a command post.... using the command APC....

This is what I learned from the briefing... haven't got through the mission yet.

  9. There has to be some kind because I knew immediatly that I had them under my command. I never second guessed it one of the first things I did was tell them to move.

The NAPA guy says something like "Razor is more experienced so you must follow them" or some gibberish like that...

I tried to make them follow me... I guess I had just forgot about the command menu.... more than 2 months since I played TC...

  10. I think it's what I'd expect. The GTX 275 has more memory than 512 (which I think (yet to be confirmed) is the limit of 'very high'). The default setting should basically allow Arma 2 to auto-detect the amount of memory your GFX card has. As you have less then 8GB Arma 2 was able to do this successfully hence your improved performance.

You are confusing video memory with system memory...

  11. Nah sadly, once you start a campaign you cant chang the difficultylvl, except the props written en green - if not green no enable/disabling, and the green ones in expert are very few and does not include the show group in hud - meaning i have to restart the campaign (again again) with a diffucultysetting where i can choose wether or not to the group. Btw - prob was only around finding the woonded you get to heal - and without any hud...mmmm thoughone - any ideas anyone?

Don't ask me how, but I changed it during the campaign....

I was using Veteran, but then edited Regular so it had the same look as Veteran, but with unlimited saves.

I think it ask for difficulty level before the start of a mission... not sure...
