Hrm, have you talked to the ? I am assuming you have since the milita has shown up. Once you talk that guy, go talk to the milita officer. this should give you some scripted dialogue options. If you have talked to both of these people, or are unable to talk to the milita leader after talking to the first guy, then you have probably run afoul of one of this games 843274623151987576478123454780 scripting errors and will have to revert.

Well I really don't know if 1.03 fixed all my problems with the DOW mission, since the new patch just crashes the game on me. I suppose I could wait for 1.04 (if there ever is one) but the frustration the game (and this mission in particular) has put me through makes me not want to bother.

You need to order them to disembark so they get off the bikes. Then look at the chopper and order them to get into the chopper.

Its a bit of a bug as far as i can tell, or maybe it was intended but makes no damned sense (like the script coding). Your best bet to get a pair is to kill an enemy officer, they usually have them. just start checkin corpses as you go. (This is better done BEFORE it gets dark)

How do I complete Badlands?!
Slothy replied to maximus434's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
i gotta say, i never used the NAPA guys. I actually finished this mission just messing around, I put two of my squadies in the armed pickup truck near where you spawn, then took the other squadie in the technical that has the tailgate up (forget the designation offhand.) After getting the second truck to follow mine I progressed down the road (not across the field), stopping every hundred feet or so to let the gunners pick of anything the new position had exposed. if bullets flew my way I jammed the gas into cover and progressed around the back side (the side away from where you spawn) of the village. I just wanted to mess around but to my surprise my guys totally raped the 'dakies doing this. maybe not a recommended tactic, but worth a laugh. -

The only real way to complete it is lots of patience. There aren't really any mission specific tips i can give you, but there are some basic gameplay tips that become more important in situations where you seem stuck. -Keep to cover as much as possible (You may need to read the thread about concealment not meaning cover) -Look before you move. Then look again. Scan every square inch of open area before you decide to expose yourself. When you are done all of that, make sure you look again, just to be safe. -The AI can't see through smoke, if you get pinned pop a smoke 'nade, wait a few seconds, then fall back. -Once you fire from a position, MOVE. the AI will home in on the sound of your shots and quickly make the area a deathtrap. -Don't be afraid to save every time you think you have made some forward progress. -Learn from your deaths. If a guy with an RPG keeps killing you from behind the truck by the red building, then stop running out in to his field of fire. -
Well my DOW mission is bugged so I can't even start it, let alone complete it, but my guess is that at the end the faulty code melts your hard drive. Just a guess :P

I'm rather disappointed to see that nobody from BI has deigned to grace us with any sort of response to this rather large thread. I see them weigh in on 'fluffy' things or community related topics, but for some reason some sort of comment on an actual problem seems to be beneath them. I'm sure a lot of people would love to know if a fix for this issue is being worked on, or, hell, that BI is even aware of the problem since we have no evidence that they actually read any technical questions.

Actually, if you make the wrong choices previous to the dogs of war mission (you know, the topic this thread is about) then you ARE prevented from finishing the game. The mission scripts simply to don't trigger even with patch 1.02. The fact that you have to make specific choices in order to make everything work kind of defeats the purpose of having multiple choices, and hardly helps people that have progressed to DOW without thinking that they need to go read a player-made walkthrough in order simply play the game they payed for. (That being said, the posted walkthrough is pretty good, so kudos on the work there)

Another way to do this mission is to load it up multiplayer and host your own LAN with just you playing. The decisions you made in the SP game won;t stand, but at least you can play the damned thing. I think it is abhorrent that so little testing was done to a game that the main storyline is uncompletable for a large portion of the player base without jumping through flaming hoops. The lack of any type of support for this issue is also rather despicable.
