  1. is this a bug or not?????? For awhile i thought i was doing something wrong in the editor. But after a bazillion attempts to find out how i can get these guys to move off thier spawn's, AFTER they respawn a few times in multiplayer, i started to think it was a bug for the Ai with thier waypoints. Some Ai dont seem to have a problem, and some Ai just continue like normal and just continue moving along thier waypoints. Thats why im thinking that theres some kind of bug in the respawn_west and respawn_east for mainly just the Ai not human players. Maybe some are accidently respawning outside the area? im really not sure. I dont know if its a bug or not , but seeing that some ai are moving fine and others arent , makes me wonder if it is a bug or not. ISSUE :> SOME ai stop moving at respawn_west and respawn_east markers after about 10-20 minutes after they respawn a few times. The ai in question are mainly Ai that your not directly grouped with BUT are on your side, (west for e.g.). They just sit at East_respawn or West_respawn and dont move at all like they are frozen. After awhile more Ai get stuck, until eventually just about the whole Ai players that arent directly linked to your group are sitting at the respawn_west or respawn_east spawn doing nothing. Some games it happens more often than not. And its mainly Ai that are on YOUR side. If you want to see what i meen . Create 10 guys playable in the editor on each side and do the whole respawn description.ext thing , give them all waypoints and say 3 waypoints each or more. Have them all meet up and shoot around each other waypoint 2 and allow them battle it out and respawn 3 or 4 times(so it will probably take about 10 or so minutes or more). After awhile they should and will eventually stop moving out of thier respawn_west or _east areas, and just lie there without moving or theyll just stand there doing nothing. but yet some wont. Thats the bizarre thing.
  2. how do you save the waypoint with currentwaypoint group? This is a topic to a question ive seen alot of people want to know. Ai responding after respawns is a great way to test your MP game.
  3. After searching ALL over the place. From OFP forums, to Arma Forums, to Arma 2 forums. Im finding ALOT of questions of people not being able to move ai from their respawn= "BASE" point and make them move and continue to thier first waypoint after respawn. Mainly for for playable Ai units for user MP games. What happens at the moment is Ai just stop what they are doing and sit at the respawn ="base" forever and dont follow thier waypoints after they die that you set out for them in the editor. So for E.G:> if you have 20 players on a server and 12 of them are human players and 8 of them were Ai but STILL playable as set in the editor. The Ai should still be following thier waypoints after they die as laid out in the editor you created for them. But at the moment the ai dont , they just sit there at the respawn base doing NOTHING. So im guessing theres no easy way to do this in the editor. And if there is , i havent found an EASY solution anywhere accept loads of scripts that respawn unplayable Ai NOT playable, that have nothing to do with the waypoints you set out in the first place. So maybe in the Description.ext notepad where you put the respawn options my suggestion is to have a..... Ai waypoints=true, option. (that meens the Ai will continue onto thier FIRST waypoint and check the parameters laid out before they were dead and for them to continue at exactly the point of what they were doing at death, UNLESS sombody joins the server and wants to play that character the Ai are using) So for an example, if Ai had a waypoint :0 and a W:1 and a W:2 set out in the editor, and they died before getting to Waypoint:2 then the Ai unit in question will just try and get BACK to waypoint :2 as they were doing before. If there is an easy way of doing this and i havent found it anywhere then sorry i made the suggestion. I just thought it would be easier if the developers had an actual, Ai waypoints=true, option available in the Description.ext that would save alot of time for players trying to creat MP games that still had Ai continuing with thier waypoints.
  4. so in the init script or whatever, whats the simplest command to attach that unit that respawned, to the first waypoint it originally had BEFORE they died. please.... anyone? like they never really died and are just continuing on thier waypoint way. If that makes any sense at all. So for example unit1 has 3 waypoints. :> waypoint 0: move, then waypoint 1: move, then waypoint 2:,. That Ai died before reaching waypoint:2 so it respawns back at base. How do i make that unit1 go straight for waypoint :0 again then continue on to what it was doing. What seems to happen is the Ai WILL respawn and seem to follow the waypoints a few times then they just stop doing it completely after a few respawns. Normally about 5-15 minutes into the mission. However what i have noticed If you are on the BLUFOR side they will stop following thier waypoints sooner than the OPFOR side does IF there are no human players on that side. But the OPFOR side eventually stops following the waypoints too , after awhile. And vice versa. Its normally if and when the ai reaches thier 3rd waypoint laid out in the editor. And its normally more noticable with the Ai on the side you have chosen to be on.
  5. ive never seen that before. Shouldnt there be an option to install English version or german version?
  6. what? you sure? have you tested that a few times, just incase it was a coincidence? I still get Ai stuck at respawn even after deleting the modules accept garbage module. But I really want the garbage module, if in my noob understanding it cleans up dead enemies and stuff lying around after awhile. im finding that the Ai are respawning but then not attaching themselves back on the 0:Move waypoints. Whats wierd is some do, but some dont. Do i have to put move to waypoint 0 or DOMOVE to W:0 on the init of the unit or something? Or somehow activate it everytime Ai spawn? human opponents obviously dont need to worry about this, but you cant get a full server all the time with just human opponents. Or is there some rule of thumb im unnaware of? What does the Ai actually do on respawn? Does it just repeat ALL waypoints that they are givin? Or do they just go for the last waypoint they were at when they died? how does it work?

    Dogs of war: Units creation

make your own missions. Its more fun. The editor is where Arma 2 shines. I gave up on the single player campaign ages ago. After it started crashing.
  8. nyran125

    Are these bugs?(Dogs of war)

make your own missions. Its more fun. the Single player campaign is a headache. And your own missions wont be half as buggy.
  9. im having the same problem but the very simple respawn mission ive created is nowhere near as complex as that. What happens is the Ai seem to respawn but forget thier waypoints or something or get spawned off thier waypoints, if that makes sense.
  10. im having problems not with detection but triggers activating when ive chosen "OPFOR not present" within a certain radius. The trigger still seems to be activating even if the trigger has OPFOR inside the radius ive set it too. Its quite irritating.

    SP Campaign

make your own campaign. youll have more fun, with less bugs and youll be able to trigger things the way they should be triggered:). I agree having a single player campaign that works flawlessly is so important for new players because thats where new players will FIRST go to, you should never release a game that has a buggy single player campaign because the people that would of liked to have a go at multiplayer or the editor mode will never touch the game again after only a few days. They wont wait around for 3 months for the bugs to be ironed out. Bohemia missed a golden opportunity with these awesome graphics to tap into some players that never even heard of operation flashpoint or Arma 1. Those players though once they play the single player game will never ever look at ARMA again. Also NEVER underestimate word and mouth communication, it spreads to people that wanted to play Arma 2 but wont, because friends have said how buggy it is. I know people that hate Arma2 (I love arma 2 by the way , ONLY because of its editor mode) and they have never even played the game. Thats how word and mouth works. Bohemia really need to look at that in the future, the single player mode in games that want to be over the top successful ,needs to be flawless on release and the editor mode could probably get the updates. It kills off new players like wild fire. Maybe have 2 single player modes in future, one small completely fun bug free version and a huge comlex version aswell. Imagine call of duty on release with a buggy single player game, nobody would even play it. The first thing i always do when trying a new game is go straight for the single player campaign. After thats done i go to multiplayer. Other players do it the other way round. While playing counter strike i had a random guy saying to me that Arma 2 sux, yet hasnt even played it,lol. Just on something hed heard about the single player game form someone else.
  12. If i got this , (mainly because i love the mission editor, even if its a complex beast, i would much rather the developers put drop down scripts in the menu of the editor). Anyway the question i have is will i be able to go into operation arrowhead and be able to access Arma 2's maps like utes and Chernarus in the arrowhead game? and vice versa. Would i be able to access all the editing stuff from arrowhead directly from Arma 2's editor. I would i have to use merge to incorporate stuff fom one to another? how would that work, please. ANYBODY?
  13. hmm. yeah that Bomemia Interactive Wiki is almost for pro's that actually know what they are doing but need a few references here and there, thats what ive found anyway. It didnt help me at all when i was trying to learn respawn scripts and stuff, it assumes you know very basic but very easily to not know stuff. Like when creating the description.ext you need to make sure the .txt is not at the end of the description.ext. Another thing, is place the description.ext @ my documents/arma2/missions. When you compile the mission in editor it all automatically gets compiled into the single mission folder or the multiplayer folder at Program files/Arma2/MPmissions in a PBO file. The description.ext and the briefing.sqf or any script youve created in my documents/arma 2/missions folder gets compiled into a PBO file with EVERYTHING included. This information i had to hunt down for DAYS,lol, without knowing what i was looking for. So the search function was almost a waste of time, until i stumbled over things accidently. If you dont know what your looking for how are you supposed to search for it?

Arma II is going on the shelf...

well im running arma 2 fine on the nividia GTX 512 mb card. No issues at all. On normal settings of course. But dont expect a massive performance increase if you upgrade your card to a 200 series card if you already have a mid range to high end 8800 or 9800 card. Im getting 25-50 fps throughout, without any crashes at all obviously using xp, practically having to use the same setting as a person with a 200 series card. I just think people upgrade thier systems prematurly before the actual games that really need a hardware upgrade come out and expect thier hardware to run the game maxed out. PC gaming has never EVER worked that way and probably never will. It always takes a year or 2 years before hardware catches up to the more powerful released games. Im not saying that Arma 2 is anything special graphically its more to do with the processor and it being able to handle everything than the gpu but why upgrade before?, arma 2 is the ONLY game that people are having trouble with SINCE the 8800GTX or 9800 cards were released provided you had a cpu anything higher than a intel core 2 duo 2.66Ghz. Crysis was the last one and Oblivian before that. IN future i just suggest to you to WAIT till the hardcore game comes out before upgrading your computer, IF you are running all your games well anyway, thats all. The grass is NEVER greener on the other side with pc gaming, lol :). Im not even trying to be opinionated, but your wasting your time. Youll probably go out and buy the next gen card anyway, wont you, even if you do have a nividia 200 series card, lol. Well, i dont blame you, the 200 series card wasnt good enough in the first place. With pc gaming its sometimes just best to enjoy what you have, until the better cards running that game you want to play, actually come out. Crysis IS a perfect example. nobody had issues with Crysis at all after the 8800 series card. All the cards before the 8800 series couldnt run the game on medium or low very well. So im just stating history really. Nothing more. I dont want to offend anyone. its just what ive learnt over the years. operation flashpoint the original Still stutters in places but runs a HELL of alot better these days, than it did when it was released same with BF2 when the 9800 radeon xt's and pentium 4 single processors were out. Even DOOM3 had settings that couldnt be used with the 9800xt's of that time till 2 years later. That setting was Anti Aliasing X16. The option in DOOM 3 was there but anytime you tried to use it the game either crashed or glitched out really badly. 2 years later hardware with 16x aa came out and hey presto , eveyone ran the game great. Im not trying tottalk rubbish, its just the reality. Just one more thing, it wouldnt be very realistic if enemies DIDNT shoot your copter down. You should make the copter go a different way. If they are getting shot down , its because thats what they should do. I wouldnt find the game realistic if the enemy didnt shoot down my copters at all and just let them do whatever they like. I know i would shoot down a helicopter if i KNEW there were enemy guys onboard, wouldnt you? look at Normandy, how many planes got shot down just trying to get guys parachuting out of it, there were farm fields littered with downed planes. If you dont want the enemy to shoot you at all, just put them on Never fire. EVER. or give them all no ammo. Then place a trigger tht gives them ammo AFTER you want them too when youve reached a certain destination. Or put ammo crates around that they have to rearm at , when you have reached a certain point or waypoint in your mission. Id try the no ammo thing. Give your enemies No AMMO, until you want them to have it.

    GTX 295 on Q6600 performance

you are just reminding me to never go out and buy a nividia 200 series card and stick with my 8800gts 512mb card for another year or 2. Apoc_reg has also cleared up something for me and answered a question i had. That was would upgrading my Graphic card give me better performance in Arma 2 , answer NO, until next generation of hardware, cpu , gpu comes out combined with loads of patches. Im sure after a years time we will all be running this game sweet as,lol.:):):) Go try the editor everyone for anyone that hasnt already tried the editor, its the CREME of Arma 2.

BIS - help us help ourselves!

hmmm, Ok so far i have a 512mb 8800GTS adn an intel Core 2 duo, 3Ghz. I tested it on very high-unstable, i tested it on high- a little more stable but not really, i tested it on normal- now works fine without many issues at all with the game, unless i have loads of units on sceen at once, like everyone else. Low - i guess would work even better but that would degrade quality immensely. Play around with your settings. i havent had any problems really and have no real need for an explanation from the developers. I already understand that this game will only run really awesomely on very high settings with the next years or next generation or even 2 years of future hardware Cpu and gpu etc. its just one of those types of games. Like Crysis before it adn Oblivian before that. Every 3 years theres a game like Arma 2 that everyone cant run properly. 3 years down the track there will be another, probably Elder scrolls 5 i would imagine or the next installment of the total war series. Rome total war ran pretty bad on release a year later hey presto with new hardware everything ran awesome all of a sudden. Do i get the feeling theres alot of new pc gamer's playing arma 2? because you know how pc gaming is. Its been like this since X-com Ufo Defense, lol. Matter of fact X-COM UFO DEFENSE is STILL LAGGY :(:(:( Operation flashpoint 1 was buggy as hell. Matter of fact operation flashpoint is STILL buggy with movement glitches and stuff. I gave up on Single player mode and multiplayer modes ages ago accept the small co-op missions, they are still fantastic. The thing keeping me playing Arma 2 is its editing mode, you sould really try the editing mode before you ditch the game completely, you are really missing out on the CREME of Arma 2's brilliance if you dont indulge in its editing suite. Its really what Arma 2 is all about. Play around with the editor , make your own missions , less bugs and its more fun than single player mode. lol. :) Oh yeah and another thing, STOP trying to play this game on very high settings. You are wasting your time doing that. However the gamestill looks pretty and good on normal settings, you get use to it after awhile and you may actually start enjoying the game more. Some of these people are right, i dont think a patch is going to help. Might i also suggest to NEVER upgrade your computer to the latest hardware UNTIL the game you cant run, actually comes out , then wait a year or 2 THEN upgrade computer, never before, EVER. Its just a waste of money. This game has already made the nividia 295gtx's obsolete.
  17. yep agreed, i want to know how this works too. Im gathering you probably group them with the trigger or something. Im trying it with eclipse markers right now.

    Building HQ's

yep i couldnt find anything either. Love to know more about the warfare module.
  19. thats easy mate. Create a trigger around your point location B(at your destination) that the convoy is getting to. Put trigger radius as big as you want it. like Axis A 100 and axis B 100 or whatever you want. Put Activation on Blufor (thats YOU or any of your allies). Put as PRESENT. Then make your time with say 10 seconds after you reach that point. Below Activation is > Timeout, put min=10,mid=10, max=10. Below that is TYPE put end#1. Siimple as that. You can make your axis how ever big you want it. Make a marker on your map for fun to for somewhere to reach and name it. end#1 meens its all over, itll finish. You need to know SOME scripting if you want to do more complex stuff. Also try go to effects down the bottom, you can put text in if you want at the end just before the closing screen comes. Type=text and effect=plain or you can try a few other combinations here. Now in the black box underneath type what you want it to say. You can also put music effects from this page and many other things.
  20. make your own , youll have way more fun, lol.
  21. K, i got it to work. For some friggin reason. Not sure why. But they are FINALLY respawning in mode for multiplayer, they still arent respawning in single player mode. yet anyway. So they are finally respawning now. yay. Not sure why they arent in single player mode. If you create a multiplayer game without the disable AI, wont people just join and overwrite Ai anyway?
  22. im getting the same thing as you.Ive created a description.ext to go with the mission.sqm and nothing else in the folder of Arma2/missions/"mission name". In the "mission name" folder is just the mission.sqm notepad and the description notepad. It wont even load up if its exported to single player just for testing. All i have in the description notepad is respawn =3; and respawndelay =2; THATS IT, Nothing else. In the mission editor i have named the marker's > respawn_west/respawn_east etc. Nothin'. I tried the other way round west_respawn/east_respawn. I cant figure it out. Ive tried for ages. Im guessing nobody else is having this problem at all? Im only really testing the Arma 2 description.ext thing. with VERY basic stuff as im a noob. I ve just created something VERY simple, I have 5 USMC guys and 5 Russian guys practically just facing each other and killing each other straight away, just to test the description.ext, the test mission has 2 markers respawn_west and respawn_east, etc. I havent been getting respawns either. I wont be doing anything more complicated Multiplayer wise, until i get this VERY simple stuff to work. I found making 100 people Paradrop out of planes while 10 people rescue a doctor out in the woodlands and at the same time a war of 200 troops and civilians battling it out down the road simultaneously easier to make than getting this description.ext to work ,lol. I thought adding 2 lines of script into the Description.ext would of been far easier. :)

    Scripting question

sorry but ive searched for AGES, days even, around the place and this is THE first thread ive seen that even Mentions the .txt thing ive found. Its really not that easy to search for what you want specifically, sometimes, especially if you dont know what your searching for. Not even that murray's editing guide mentions anything about the .txt situation when creating an .ext file. Something as simple as that can be very hard to search for, i dont blame people for re-posting a thread in these cases.
  24. hmmmmmmmmm, i kind of disagree actually. I dont think Operation Flashpoint 2 DR is Aimed at BF2 people lol. It doesnt even look like BF2. It still looks more authentic than Bf2 will ever be. BTW younger people and there sALOT of people that will be playing Operation flashpoint 2 that have no friggin IDEA what operation flashpoint is. It wouldnt make a difference with or without operation flashpoint name. I know loads of gamers that never even played Operation Flashpoint before. They know what counter strike is,lol. Operation flashpoint 2 DR is aimed at people that want a Ghost recon Original type game with extreme realistic weapons and vehicles incorporated into its gameplay that has a more open ended environment. BF2 players want flags, Big maps, Lots of running and heaps of vehicles to drive and lots of people to shoot in the space of 5 seconds. OPeration Flashpoint 2 DR AND arma is made actually for an alternative to the all out action genre that BF2 repesents. Actually if anything, Operation flashpoint 2 DR and Arma etc, are more aimed at the one shot and its all over crowd, one mistake and your dead crowd, and the realism crowd, that ISNT the BF2 crowd at all. The BF2 crowd THINK they are playing something realistic. When they are really just playing a 3d soldier version of PACMAN,(flags being the little dots pacman runs around collecting). Bf2 you can make a million mistakes and have Zero consequences, just go grab another flag. I think its unfair that you have put Operation Flashpoint 2 DR or Arma 2 into the Ea games's Battlefield series catagory or even comparing it, BF2 is purely a multiplayer game and Operation flashpoint or Arma is more a single player game that LETS you have a multiplayer game in there aswell. The only multiplayer game worth playing is small co-op missions in Arma 2. That domination mode and Evo modes are awful. Im a new player by the way. Operation Flashpoint 2 DR is the best FPS game to probably ever hit consoles. EVER. Console players are in for a real treat. The game looks more like the original Ghost recon, than it does BF2. I loved the original Ghost recon. I also wouldnt knock it until its released. YOu have absolutely no idea what it going to be like. Arma 2 is really made for the editing suite. You can create your own missions (Without the editing suite in Arma 2, I would never have played it after the demo, ever again, period, i would never have bought it. Im glad i bought it , BECAUSE of the editing mode) That single player mode i havent even bothered playing since it crashed so much, that ISNT good for new players at all, new players will NEVER EVER play Arma 2 again after the single player experience, that cant be good for future business. Most people that are new to Arma 2 didnt even know the editor existed, they just saw the awesome graphics on You Tube and thought it looked awesome. Little did they know that arma 2 was only really good for the editor mode, also little did new players know was the videos that they were watching on You tube before they bought it, were ALL the editing mode. They thought it was just the single player or multiplayer game. SO there are definately things i agree with (Apart from the grass thing, you shouldnt be trying to shoot people out in the open and starting an engagement in the first place, unless absolutely necessary) here at the OP. The only reason to play Arma 2 is the editing mode, that is it. The Multiplayer game of Arma needs to be massively better than the EVO and Domination modes i personally do not like running around in a 255KM environment to get to objectives UNless there are certain missions at certain objectives where the stakes are high. The warfare mode should of been put into little chunks around the large map, so new players had a better multiplayer experience out of the box. BF2 is known for flag grabbing. Counter strike is known for Bomb defusing and hostie rescuing. Arma needs to be known with Warfare and co-op mission modes only, nothing else for multiplayer mode. I think Arma 2 has confused alot of new players into what Arma 2 is trying to do. Because they didnt realise that arma 2 IS the editing mode, without it, Arma 2 is nothing.
  25. to be honest . The Ai will only start shooting at you when they KNOW where you are. IN real life, if an enemy knows where you are and has spotted you, regardless of grass being there or not, sorry to say it , but yeah, they WILL shoot to kill you or WONT let you leave. Or they'll just spray bullets at your general direction. And youll most likley to get hit. The real rule of thumb is dont be left out in the open. If your out in an open field you are going to be shot. There is NO grass in this world that is going to help you. PERIOD. Do you think grass provides good cover in real life? Only a large wall, fence a large friggin tank or something can provide substantial cover for you. Grass has never throughout history ever been considered as good cover, Unless you are prone and scouting the area to plan an engagement tactic to know what your up against, but if the enemy spots you scouting then you either need to get the hell out of there or hope for the best. DIPS in terrain have been known to provide good cover. Alexander the great, would have a map of the area the attack was in, and he would not just pin point, natural rock formations as cover he would also make sure he knew where the land dips were. Without them its just an open field and you die , and if you have a gun instead of a sword your even MORE likely to die. So rule of thumb is you shouldnt be using plain grass for cover when you have started an engagement. Direct your troops into stealth mode before engagement and hold fire, when you have spotted the enemy wait for a sec, then open up rpovided you have SOMETHING to cover yourelf, the Ai most, or some of the time, find some kind of reasonable cover. But if your in an open field then where the hell do you expect them to hide under fire? a tree? lol. A fern? a blade of grass? You can get quite close to the enemy sometimes in this game without the enemy even knowing your there. I agree that the Ai is a little more knowing than they should be, but its a fine linebetween making them completely stupid, and not shooting you at all, or making them shoot at you when they think they know where you are. I would definately prefer them shoooting at me if they know where i am, than not doing anything. Another thing the Developers gave you 3rd person perspective for a reason, to give you a realistic approach to peripheal vision, thats what 3rd person mode is there for. So if your finding a situation where you cant see over the grass, swap to 3rd person mode.
