  1. This is why I turn terrain detail to "Very Low." So I avoid the handicap
  2. I tried the same thing, thats why I'm here! Also, I've tried starting an AV-8 on the LHD and it starts underneath it at the ocean bottom...strange. I'm just trying to get an Osprey to come in and pickup and move a force recon team.

    Patch 1.03 Satisfaction Survey

Theres been 3 patches for the Sims 3 since mid July...very different game, yes, I know...I'm just stating. Lets hope theres a 1.04 out within a few weeks!
  4. In the real world, fixed wing aircraft take off and land in the same direction...into the wind.
  5. Never had that happen to me. I've played games on Steam while downloading a patch for another game or another game itself... sorry for your dilemma.
  6. This really needs to be addressed in multiplayer and with the AI...the grass shouldn't be a handicap to the player who has it enabled
  7. Glad I waited to purchase the game until this patch then...I'll be buying it within a week or so now :-D Thank you for the effort you put into this patch BIS, its appreciated. Please continue to work on the game and fix/add features

Question from a new Arma player...

As others have said already, the graphics card is the bottleneck in that setup. I'd suggest ATI as they are usually cheaper then nVidia cards, so more bang for your buck. I just picked up a 4890 myself, and it performs exceedingly well for me. As has already been stated, ArmA 2 only uses 2GB of memory at the moment, so a memory upgrade wouldn't have much of an effect, especially if you're running a 32-bit OS. I'd say video card is the best choice, but don't go overboard, remember, top of the line items drop price pretty fast! Also, within the next few patches, we're all hoping to see some more optimizing and performance increases.

Hay bales need to be destructable

I'll second this motion, on the same grounds

    STEAM troubleshooting

Thank you for the reply! I was surprised to see an official response. So the game currently, is only able to take advantage of 2047MB of RAM, regardless of how much RAM I have in my system? Do I understand this right? Even 32-bit systems can address over 3GB of memory, so I'm not quite sure I understand this. However I've experienced NO issues while using "-maxmem=4096" switch. If I do I'll consider leaving it out, or trying 1023 as you suggest.
  11. You want to let Microsoft control your computer? You just let it install any/all updates it wants? Then you sir, don't know how to take care of your own computer. So sorry for your problems.

    ARMA2 Autorun.exe Issue

Have you already got the game installed? Does it run? If so I'd suggest disabling autorun. (I hate it personally and ALWAYS disable it after a fresh Windows install)

    STEAM troubleshooting

What exactly does -maxmem=2047 do? I've used -maxmem=4096 because I have 4GB of memory. Is this the wrong thing to do? I'm not exactly sure how to use this switch.
  14. I have a 4890 1GB Phenom II 940 4GB ddr2 800 It runs pretty well (the demo does), do you have a lot of stuff running in the background while playing? I hope you're using a 64-bit Windows also :-D
  15. I'd like to disagree. If a small super fast object is detected on radar (if the aircraft is using active radar), and the computer calculates it on an intercept course, it may give a warning to the pilot. I'm pretty sure something like this is implemented in gen 4 and 5 aircraft. Though, I may be very wrong.
  16. I second the suggestions proposed by the OP We need a TRUE damage model/materials penetration system for armor/aircraft and objects. Grass needs to be either viewed at the range of view distance, or not at all, its not fair for a player to hide in the grass only to have the enemy player see him clear as day. ---------- Post added at 10:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:43 PM ---------- Not if they are wearing camouflage! Its not like the players in ArmA 2 are running around in bright colored clothing and rainbows...come on
  17. Had to vote on this one... As it stands now, I play with all post-process effects off, because the motion blur is just WAY to much for me, and gives me headaches and eye strain while im trying to focus on some part of my screen and it blurs to all heck. I miss the bloom/hdr though...but if I have to give it up in order to rid myself of the obnoxious/overdone motion blur, I consider if a fair trade. Motion blur is, in my opinion, the stupidest thing game developers are adding in the latest games, it is very nonsensical, in my opinion.

    Win7

Windows 7 is supposed to be better for gaming then Vista was, but its much the same concept. It turns off Aero, and other things that eat up graphical resources, however Windows is still not smart enough to disable un-needed background services while gaming. But thats whats AMD Fusion is for ;-)

    Game physics

Yeah, the damage model of vehicles/aircraft in ArmA 2 is disappointing, but thats what we have. Hopefully the next release in this series (maybe patch?!) will have more realistic damage models/ballistic physics/materials penetration

    Why?

USMC doesn't use the AH-64 Apache, they use the smaller Cobra, as its smaller profile makes it easier to store on Landing Ships like the LPD types
  21. You're waiting to buy it too eh? :-) Looks great, I bought ArmA 1 just because the ArmA 2 demo, and because I LOVED OpFlash back in the day, however, the current state of ArmA 2 prevents me from spending 50 dollars

    Any news from b.i.???

Even if its only updated saying something like: "Still working on it..."

    Any news from b.i.???

This works for me...I'd appreciate a bit more detail, however. A post stating you're working on it satisfies me still :) ---------- Post added at 06:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:33 PM ---------- This is pleasing! I'll almost certainly purchase the game after this patch then!

    Any news from b.i.???

A tad extremist eh? I've been waiting to buy the game until I see a patch or two thats going to address major gameplay/performance issues. Until then, they're not getting a dime from me for ARMA 2. Since I have no word on it, I've been checking the forums less and less frequently, and eventually I'll probably stop caring and checking, and not buy the game. Excellent way to lose potential sales and customers! ---------- Post added at 05:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:12 PM ---------- Detailed information like: "We are working on this: <stuff> and this <stuff> Also we have been investigating the issues the community has reported with regard to <stuff>. We don't have any details, but this is currently what we are working on" Just an indication of WHAT is being addressed, not a pre-patch changelog containing specifics.

    The need for Afghan mountains

I prefer the terrain in the games currently actually, but I would not object to an Afghan type terrain in an expansion ... once all the bugs are ironed out first of course!
