Setting Arma 2 resolution higher than monitor rez gives extra detail
Foop replied to Libertine's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Your native resolution image looks horrible because you're not using any form of anti aliasing. The higher res image is just an expensive way of doing super sampling. Try the latest 1.60 patch, and then set up FXAA (I use '17' for the FXAA setting and 6 for the sharpness setting). I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. -
I just tried 1.60. It's a big improvement. The FXAA makes it look really nice, and still run at a good framerate. But the big star for me is the AI. The enemy AI is much brighter; taking cover etc. I was really impressed yesterday when they threw up lots of smoke to allow them to withdraw after a tank appeared. Squad mates are now helpful; meaning I'm finding the game easier (no longer doing all the work on my own), and more enjoyable. I tried a couple of missions from Harvest Red campaign. One was excellent - greatly improved by the ai. The other crashed twice. In general I don't play campaigns because of the tedious dialogue and cut scenes. I'd have paid for an improvement this big. Roll on arma3.

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.

I just upgraded from a Radian 4850 (512M ram) to an Nvidia GTX 460 (1G ram). It's a big improvement, I can now play ARMA 2 at 1920x1200 with all the graphics options maxed out :) -
I liked the way OFP showed you the fight continuing after you were killed. I think there is something similar in ARMA2, but it's very hard to tell with the red, blurred filter that is used. Is there a way to turn this off ?

If I am crawling and I bump into a wall then the game takes that to mean I wish to stand up, normally with fatal consequences since I was just trying to hide as close to the wall as possible.

Anyone running Vista 64 and having fps over 30(or having "sync" near 30) in campaign?
Foop replied to iHarri's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I had exactly the same problem as you until I turned vsync off in the catalyst control center, and by off I mean hardwired to off for all games. The 'off by default' option didn't work - arma2 must specifically turn it on. -
I've had arma2 for a couple of weeks now and had been getting bogged down with it. I was probably spending more time reading these forums than playing the game. Anyway, last night I seemed to make a break through for a variety of reasons. So I thought I'd tell people about in case others are struggling in the same way I was: I finally managed to get a decent framerate by disabling vsync in the ATI catalyst drivers. Previously it had been at 'off by default' which I thought would be enough, but it wasn't. So now it's hardwired to off all the time. I would guess the framerate is up around 50-60 now, and yes this does make a difference to how playable the game is. Even on a slow paced game like arma2. I watched the new vid from Jan about the mission editor. Watching vids like this is great for learning to play the game. Much better than playing the tutorials, or reading the manual. I've seen very few vids that try and describe how to play the game, most seem to be infatuated with the idea of being a film director and just show endless slow-mo panning shots. Anyone have links to good instructional vids ? Inspired, I played around with the editor for an hour and had lots of fun. I then played a port of 'clean sweep 1' that I found in the user missions forum, and actually managed to complete it ! I'm terrible at this game, so that's quite an achievement for me. However I only managed to complete it by ignoring my team completely and going off on my own. Then tried 'clean sweep 2', found it fun, but way too hard. I have no idea how to deal with the BMP. I tried to lure it onto a satchel charge but that seemed a very 'gamey' way of getting it - and certainly requires playing the level a few times to know how it's likely to behave. I'd love to see a vid of someone completing this level. Can anyone recommend a set of easy missions for beginners to learn with ? Then finally I went back to the campaign (Manhatten), spent a frustrating half hour getting nowhere, then switched off in disgust. So my advice is; ignore the campaign. Play user missions or your own missions instead.
