Cheers;)
Im struggling atm, I end up driving around and getting lost for about 10 minutes, and then end up dying:D Never seems to be very much Co-op
-
Would playing coop LAN count?
-
Each server tracks rank independently (or not at all). So it depends on the server and what mission they are running. You may not rank up at all. And restarting the mission/server wipes out any rank gained.Don't fixate on it too much.
Thanks, just curious. As almost all vehicles I've got in say I need to be ranked higher:)
-
Ive only just started playing and maybe played a handfull of times online. How do you rank up on multiplayer?
-
This is the only game I have ever had problems with too. I guess there is conflicts everywhere with it. A bit like Steam when it first came out. If I come accross something for this I'll be sure to send it your way.

Yeah, got a PC rebuild being delivered tomorrow with a fresh copy of Vista 64/Windows 7 upgrade.Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly..
You'll need to cross more n that ;):D
-
:yay:The mighty Copy n Paste worked

Still... 64bit Vista is the way forward methinks
-
Thanks for that.
I've decided to copy the BI folder containing a working copy of 1.02 over my 1.01 TBH it cant get any worse than it is.
If this fails I'm goona get vista stuck on tomorrow, nice fresh install. I really do think that its my current OS installation thats causing the problems.
-
Well. All that done the patch still throws a wobbler on every PBO(this includes the ones I downloaded at work)
I have a feeling this could be a windows fuckup. I have just noticed boot.ini is missing from msconfig and its not letting me chkdisk either... Ive tried a few fixes but nothing doing. Im not really happy to do another XP installation (The system came with XP HE, I've reformatted and gone with XP Pro) I'll have a fiddle tonight and if I get no luck I'm taking the system into work and I'll get the techies to stick a copy of Vista on there see if that makes a difference.
As for memtest one scan threw up a fault, another didnt, I've since reset the ram and am trying again.
But like I say I'm blaming Bill for this one
-
Could be that you have memory problems on your pc. Run memtest for a night and see if it finds any errors also remove any overclock you may have applied.Once I've eliminated any Mobo driver problems and if that doesnt cure it I'll take a look at the memory.
Thanks for the suggestion

Yes, for some reason booting in safe mode made it work  very odd. And it was installed direct from the DVD, it did take almost 45 minutes though.
However I am having even more problems with the patch. I've tried 7 different copies of it (one I know for certain works) and every PBO throws up an error
Anyway today I'm updating the chipset on the mobo, Sata drivers, and maybe even BIOS if it comes to it.
-
I had though of doing BIOS, but will leave that as a last resort. Im gonna download all the mobo drivers at work. Using the Uni's network it'll only take a few minutes. Living out here in rural wales means Im only on 1mb so a 500mb files gonna take about 3 hours.
-
Will try the mobo drivers now. Have already done a check of both HDD's. A long shot but would it make a difference if the HDD's are FAT32 or NTFS?
Mark dont worry about being old mate. My first computer was the mighty Spectrum 48k

Too big a question i'd suspect.Lots of files get updated, especially .PBOs. Theoretically you could install Arma2 and then copy over all the data from a patched up install of the game.
But mate, it would be a lot easier just to figure out why you're having so many problems installing and patching in the first place. For all you know this could just be the tip of the iceberg and once you get Arma2 up and running the next game might fail to install as well.
Nip the problem in the bud.
Stuck in a few games earlier and they all installed without any problems. Im wonderng if its a conflict between the OS software.
XP Pro SP3, AMD Athlon 7850 DC Black 2.8, 3gig ram, ATI Radeon HD 4670

Constant CRC errors with the PBO files. Its the same with the patch. Every pbo file gets an error. Im downloading my 7th copy from a yet another source.
System is XP Pro SP3, AMD Athlon 7850 DC Black 2.8, 3gig ram, ATI Radeon HD 4670

Of suggestions.
1 For future releases please make sure that people can install it first time with no problems. Other developers do this why cant BI?
2 When they finaly have installed it, patches that arent equally as frustrating to install as the game itself
-
Jimmy. You aint the only one. Its taken me almost all weekend to just install it. Now I cant patch it, so no online gaming for me.
-
What specific files does the patch update? Maybe I could copy them over from a patched working game
-
Im in no way expecting a similar game. I'm merely stating that it is those will be my multiplayer options for the time being.
I would love to sample the multiplaye experience of Arma 2 but the patching issues I am having are not going to give me the opportunity. I am currently downloading a 7th patch.
-
Maye you are right about single player. Guess I'll never find out how good multiplaye is. I guess its back to DODS & CSS for the time being.
-
Whatever is causing it is a nightmare. TBH having played single player for 30 minutes or so, its not really all that, it all looks nice but the controlls are just so bloody fiddly. I am hoping that when I finaly get a patch that works doesnt seem its just me google brings up a few having problems), I can get online and maybe start enjoying it.
-
Are you sure that your hard-drive is ok? DVD drive?I've not encountered this at all, on my side. For the game install and installing the patches. With you saying the Patch also gives you the same error leads me to believe that you may have some problems on the hard-drive.
Try running Error Checking on the drive, might have some bad sectors, etc.
I have a brand spanking new PC. I have fully updated everything. Both drives are loaded with the very latest firmware. No other software has any problem with my system. Just Arma2... I had to install the game in safe mode which was bad enough. BI wont be getting any more of my hard earnt cash ever again.
-
OK not only was it a big enough piss take that it took a day and a half to get this game installed due to CRC errors. Now the fkn update is doing the same thing. (I've even tried it in safe mode)
I have downloaded 5 patches from different sources. I know one works as it worked on our othe pc. Every single PBO file gives an error:mad:
I thought valve/steam were a cowboy operation, well BI you have reached new levels of ineptitude :rage:
-
Firstly a big thank you to all those who've tried to help.
I've finaly installed it. It took near on 45 minutes but hey maybe it'll be worth the wait.
I booted to safe mode, and firstly tried to install from the pc, no luck as its crashed on characters2 again. So I tried from the DVD as one last atempt and it installed
See you all in game. I'll be the noob running around without a clue :D
ArmA2 gives me seizures :(

The head bobing is a bugger to get used to, along with all the K's travelling to a battle.
You seriously should get that checked out.
