So i was thinking since Chernarus is only 1/4 of the size of the map, how do you think the game would perform if alot of that access nothingness was cut out? and is this possible to do now in the existing map making program for Arma? For example, i know that in some map making programs you can stamp an existing map and then add more terrian around the existing one to make a bigger version of the map, now with this it would need to be stamped and then placed on a smaller grid, or whatever you call it. i cant help but think that all that extra nothingness of green hills and lots of ocean is taking up alot of resources, maybe if we got rid of it, chernarus would run better on lower end systems, hell even high end systems would benefit from this since its not really taking anything away. what do you all think? keep in mind i don't really know much about the technical side of how these things work but i'm learning, so if you know how the outcome might turn out, please explain.
  2. lol, well i was trying to come up with a decent title, and i just had to throw the R word in there :yay: but seriously i didnt know that all that space has no effect, its kinda hard to believe actually, i figured a smaller sized map, would perform better, guess not.

    ya it does, but patch 1.03 has screwed up the sound, you'll get a click noise come up now and then and the sound will become distorted, and it was so annoying for me i went back to 1.02, i honestly think 1.02 is better in other aspects also, but thats another story.

    doormatindeed, make a shortcut of arma2.exe and on the shortcut right click and go to properties, now where you see target, it will say "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\arma2.exe" click on that line and at the end of arma2.exe make a space and type this -mod=@VopSound_2.1 it should look like this in the target "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\arma2.exe" -mod=@VopSound_2.1 click apply and then launch the game with the shortcut and test it out, good luck.

    If you want this to show up everytime, just load up chernarus in the editor first, then quit and open the editor again and load utes, there you go, its there everytime, with the editor addon mod, theres trees, buildings and a bunch of other stuff. Ive pretty much made that whole extra island a jungle lol

    I use a PS3 controller for flying and driving land vehicles, works pretty good. Everything else though is keyboard and mouse.

I thought this would be a cool idea, I was crawling through the grass with my squad approaching a enemy compound, when i got to the compound i approached a wire fence. the only way in the compound was either through the front entrance, which wasnt possible since there were guards or to blow a hole in the fence with satchel charges, which would blow my cover, then i thought damn i wish i had some wire cutters to cut this fence open so i could sneak through unnoticed and take the enemy by surprise. So if any of ou modders out there think this is a good idea i would love to see this in the game.
  9. do you have a digital version or the dvd? regarding your cd keys, why do you think they were stolen? were they all on your computer somewhere? im not sure how fade works, but i have my dvd in the drive and when i start up the game i assume fade checks for the dvd and if its in the drive fade shouldnt activate, i could be wrong though so maybe someone with more knowledge about fade can confirm that.
  10. what are your ingame settings? try turning post processing off if you have it on maybe. that might eliminate some of the glare.

Heigou, if your using a Ati video card, you have to use Ati drivers if you want your video card to work properly, I have a ASUS motherboard also, but my video card is Nvidia so i use the latest drivers from Nvidia which is 190.38, plus my motherboard drivers. Sorry if you already are already doin that, but from my understanding you are just using your motherboard drivers? if you still have problems with the Ati drivers i suggest you try different versions, if the latest drivers are giving you problems, try an older version maybe, if that doesnt work then maybe the Non-Blinding Sun mod will work for you. good luck. and "sometimes I can just see perfectly with the nightvision and then without looking somewhere else my nightvision just becomes dark and I can hardly see and I have to wait for my eyes (ingame) to get used to the lightning again." This happens for me also, but i think this might actually be a gameplay feature, not sure maybe sommeone else can confirm that.
  12. Is there a way to make the third person view more like Arma 2 ? I have decided to take a break with arma 2 until theres a patch, but the third person in arma 1 kinda bothers me abit, its too far and the character looks small, is there some way i can mod it so its abit closer to the player?

    thats cool, i didnt know that. I would like to see an animation and a wire cutter model though, maybe im asking for too much, but im just throwin out some ideas i though would be worthwhile, thanks for the reply though Murklor

    The worst problem of all problems.

    I had this exact same problem and it scared me, i realized though that it only happened when i overclocked my video card, while i was tryin to tweak my settings, to get the game running at decent frames, once i turned the overclocking off though everything is fine, are you overclocking your card? if not then ya it might be a ram problem. either way, let us know if you find a solution.

    hey thanks for this great mod, it makes the game feel alot more realistic and the immersion is even better. I have noticed a couple of bugs though, 1.sometimes if there are alot explosions going off around the player, the sound will cut off and it is gone for a couple of seconds, I've checked this with two separate sets of speakers because the first time it happened i though maybe my speakers were blown but it happened on my studio speakers too, so im not sure whats goin on. 2.some of the aircrafts gun sounds are almost non existent, i think its the f35 gun sound for me that i noticed this, next time im on the game ill try and confirm. thank you once again for this awesome mod and ill help do my part to point out bugs if i notice them.

    I spent $2200 today...

    what makes you think that your not going to able to run it? i have a GTS 250 and it runs decent, so you should be fine, its all about tweaking your system for this game, until it gets some better optimization
  23. thanks xy20032004 for the guide on how to do this, i managed to extract the chernarus.pbo and i changed the clutter distance too 200 in the CfgWorlds.hpp file. Is this the right thing to do? I dont know how to repack the files now so that its a new version of chernarus.pbo, i looked all over the place on how to do this but its not very straight forward and noob friendly, any help would be appreciated. btw do you think you could provide a screen shot of the before and after differences of this affect?
