I have bought a legit copy of the game and was wondering if it is possible to use a no-cd patch on the game for online play, hate having to dig it out everytime I start the game..
thanks

I have looked around and cant find the option to disable in game chat, I can hear people talking and it makes it hard when I am on TS with friends...
any ideas?

I still get occasional white flashing with cat 9.7 betas.. I find if I leave vsync enabled it happens a lot less. The 9.7 betas do fix crossfire in Vista though and performance is greatly increased (when you are not CPU lmited that is) and you no longer need to use the -winxp switch

fill rate at 133% actually causes the image to be blurred, but if you like it then cool.. 150% and 200% will keep the image clear while fixing the "sharp" alpha textures like grass.
if you set AA to low (which is 2xAA) aswell as 150% you will effectivly have 4xAA + 2xAA on Alpha textures. Or if you set it 200% you will have 6xAA plus 4xAA on alpha textures.
And you might want to turn AF up if you dont like blurry textures, like Jugganaught of war mentioned, the roads go blurry unless you set to very high.. aswell as all other textures like walls etc.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I am not GPU limited so those threads dont really help..

Everything very high and set Fill rate to max if you want best visuals...
For me at 1920x1080 the highest the fill rate goes to is 3840x2160 (200%)
The fill rate setting is essentially super sampling AA and fixes the "sharp" vegetation nicely :) aswell as textures etc.
It is located directly under the resolution setting..
150% = 2xSSAA and 200% = 4xSSAA
you can also add MSAA at the same time via the main menu.. I personally use 150% + anti aliasing on low, but of course AA on high and 200% looks much nicer if you think your system can handle it..
And I believe the game only uses 4xAnisoTropic Filtering at its highest setting, so you can force 16xAF through CCC if you want but it takes a pretty big hit.
btw I like the post effects :p

Thank you :)

I normally love FPS view in games, however in ArmA2 I feel it is poorly done, movement etc feels terrible.. and on top of that the frame rate is so poor it makes it feel even worse.. so in ArmA2 I prefer 3rd person mode and tbh if it wasnt for the option of 3rd person I doubt I would have stuck with it long enough to find out what a great game it is.

In the single player campaign I called the huey in via the support menu for a pick up, it arrived and we all jumped in but I have no idea how to tell the pilot where to go.. :o
I jumped in as Crew Chief, which I guess is what I am meant to do, but if I press any of the aircraft control buttons such as increase thrust nothing happens.. Also I cannot move us anywhere via the map.
I understand how to direct the 3 other soldiers where to go and what to do, but the chopper pilot is not part of my team, so what do I do?
thanks

how do I reduce grass?

hmm fair enough
I run the game at 1920x1080 +150% everything very high and low AA, but the thing is the game gets the same FPS in single player no matter the settings... FPS are great, sitting on 60, then as soon as there are a few bots around it plummits.. I may have to invest in a faster CPU.. lol I wonder what sort of CPU is needed to keep this game at a constant 60FPS
Intels 6-core i9's will be out soon, might have to start saving the pennies...

Yes I have overclocked my CPU to 3.69....
Yes ArmA2 is CPU dependant, hence my post...
No performance is pretty poor, I get roughly between 30-60 fps and when there are a lot of vehicles and bots around it pretty much stays at 30ish fps..
So my question is, are there any tweaks to disable things that use up CPU cycles, like the swaying effect for grass and trees, and even some wild life.. I dont mind missing out on a few birds and swaying effect on grass if it will be a lighter load on the CPU, resulting in higher fps..
-
Just press escape then continue again, works for me.
-
Is there anyway to tweak ArmA 2 to use less CPU usage? like for instance disable the swaying grass and trees etc? In other games in the past this has helped a lot..
I am severly CPU limited with a Q6600 @ 3.69GHz and 4870 crossfire, FPS are great until there are a few bots around etc..
-
Arma2 currently comes complete with built in failengine, it's a bonus undocumented feature that hopefully will be deactivated with the next patch.:D

Fraps can also be limited by your hard drive speed in how fast it can write to the disk, try lowering the recording settings in fraps (make the image 1/2 or 1/4 size etc) and disable sound recording unless you really need it.

Hey guys I have 4870 crossfire with a Q6600 at 3.7 and the game runs fairly well for me in MP with the cat 9.7 betas, crossfire finally scales well in Vista. 1920x1080 (+150% for 2xSSAA) everything very high except shadows at high and I have dropped view distance to the minimum of 500, also scene complexity (object detail?) is at 300000.. with these settings I am getting roughly 50-60fps average, vsync on.
But SP is severly CPU limited.. I'd say most of the time I'm getting anywhere from 25 to 40 fps in SP, which is a shame as I havnt bothered playing it with such terrible performance...
I have come to the conclusion that SP performance isn't going to get a whole lot better with patches as it seems to me the game is far too demanding on CPU's, and unless they remove of a lot of things from the game it will remain extremely CPU intensive.
The only option is too buy the new 6-core i9's after xmas and oc the hell of it lol

A friend and I are trying to play the campaign in coop mode over hamachi using the LAN settings, however the game is raping our connections.. is there a way to reduce the amount of bandwidth the game uses?
like can I drop the rate, packet flow etc??
thanks

Crossfire now works for me in Vista without the -winxp switch and gained a few fps too :)

I also have this problem but notice it mostly on the foliage on certain trees when AA is enabled, particularly pine trees..
I'm guessing this is an ATi problem as I have seen it in other games before (Crysis before fixed in drivers)

crossfire works if you add -winxp switch to the command line of desktop icon

thanks, I have tried moving the entire squad while we are in the chopper, but nothing happens.. I can hear myself give the order.. bug perhaps?
Also, while in the chopper I bring the map up, order the squad to move somewhere but again nothing happens.. funny thing is when I first jumped in the chopper the pilot automaticaly started it up, but now the engine is off, why is that?
This is my first experience with ArmA and it's all very confusing the first time around..
-
when I click on the map it just marks the spot and a test box comes up to name it..
please tell me how I select the helicopter/pilot and order him to move on the map.
thanks.
Able to use no-cd?

Why will I get a moderator warning? I asked if there was a no-cd patch...
I was not discussing 3rd party cracks.
