Google is your friend. There are reviews and benchmarks all over the web.
If you can't use google, there are alot of posts linking benchmarks and such in this forum: http://www.evga.com/forums/tt.asp?forumid=80

BSOD 2 times last night playing warhammer II.
I'm getting rid of these for now.
-
Tried out the 191.03 drivers, noticed a definite performance increase but also some definite BSODs. Interestingly not in Arma2 but one in Windows and one while playing COD4. :(Uninstalled, rolled back to 190.62.
I had 1 BSOD while running Arma Mark myself.
-
Have you ran ArmA2 mark 2 times in a row ? If not do it and post again ! Otherwise the results always have that differences.I ran it about 10 times in a row.;)
-
Ok, I've been tweaking my system for about 2 hours since I installed these.
As of right now my Arma Mark score went from 7917 to around 6600 with these drivers using the same settings with 190.38's.
However certain portions of the test increased quit a bit, (base flyover, tank portion and the halo drop) but the rest decreased. the biggest loss was the spin test for me. Typically I get 113 FPS on the spin test and now I am getting 77?
Also, now when I run this test fraps shows higher numbers than the game is scoring for me, by alot (like 20ish+)
I think these may improve certain things for alot of people. But for me, there is still some tweaking to do.

Well before you ati guys jump on the 5870 bandwagon you might want to wait.
First looks 5870X2
http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/15692/1/
And the 300's may be coming by thanksgiving.
-
The HD5xxx series are out already :)You should know better!
HARDWARE THREAD!:D
Sie werden mir gehorchen

The performance increase is too small to justify spending 400 bucks.Depends on what card you are running.
-
Interesting... but wrong forumDon't worry I'm sure the mods will lock it/move it shortly. I'm surprised it lasted this long.
-
but it will also slap us in the face with the price tag :-)True.
The 5870's are only $379 on newegg but are already sold out.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102856&cm_re=5870-_-14-102-856-_-Product
I'm kinda surprised how cheap they are................for a new card anyway.
Of course I'm sure that will change when they release the 5870x2 next month.:)
-
Awesome, this means Nvidia will be releasing the 300 series asap to slap ati down once again!:D
-
I'm sure NVIDIA will deliver good cards, but judging by their current yields that won't be anytime soon. http://www.semiaccurate.com/2009/09/15/nvidia-gt300-yeilds-under-2/Wow. That article of BS is being spread like wildfire across the web.
How can you read an article like that from some site like "semi-accurate" and take it at face value without any proof or data to back it up? Especially about a product like the 300 which nividia has kept a super tight lid on.
If I go to you tube and make a video saying how great it is would everyone believe me and link it in forums too?
Sheesh
-
SLI is a gimmick really. It is only like a 20 percent increase in performance. So your money is going to waste.
Get the single card solution.
Really? Are you running SLI?
SLI performance differs by game. Some games have huge increases and some not so much.
For me in Arma 2 I got a very nice gain going from a single 280 to dual 280's.
However if I were him I would go with the 5870 or wait for the 300 series. It's late in the game to be buying 200's unless you can get them on the cheap.
Personally I intend to go the 300 route x2 sli when they arrive if the benchmarks and reviews on them are as good as everyone believes they will be.
-
Best Buy has it.
Newegg.
Wal-Mart
Personally I prefer steam.
-
I use the UAV alot, but I just use it for the hellfires. Return to base re-arm rinse and repeat.
-
Finally, i got my new machine last friday:Its DELL XPS 730X:
Intel i7 950
3 x 2048 MB Ram
Single NVIDIA Geforce GTX295 1,8GB
Soundblaster XFI Titanium card
And iam not shure whats wrong...it looks ARMA2 isnt quite faster as on my old PC (Single AMD4000+ and Geforce 8800GTX)???
Whats going on?
It isn't. You just need to do some tweaking and probably some driver updates. All new PC's need a little polishing.
-
I went from single card to SLI (GTX280's) and it did not make a huge amount of difference. Matter of fact, I don't think it made ANY difference really.LOD still sucks (textures don't load properly) and FPS seems really slow. I do have settings on highest options (1680x1050) and AF set to medium, and AA off.
I also turned off PhysX with no discernible difference.
Turning off Phys x won't. Arma 2 doesn't support physx.
I run the game with all settings to very high 1680 x 1050 with full grass and vd 3000. I get around 30-70 fps normally with 2 gtx280's.
-
HI Folks,Thanks for the replies , Iam hoping someone who has went from Single GTX280/285
will reply with their actual experience in going from single to SLI , so I can better gauge
if its worth doing or not.
Saying that IF the new ATI 5X series GPU's released next week are awesome , I might
consider giving one of them a go.
IF going SLI My upgrade costs would be:
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R : £143
BFG EX Series 1200W: £165
ATI 4670 "Passive" : £60
Total 368 :-(
Depending on the cost of the ATI Vs the whole uprade cost , single Vs dual GPU solutions , duno what to do .... just yet.
I went from a single 280 to 280x2 sli. It didn't double performance by any means but I can run ARMA 2 with all settings on VERY HIGH 1680x1050 and rarely ever drop below 30 fps. Typically about 30-70 with full grass and viewdistance 3000. If I kill the grass or drop the AA my FPS goes really high. Over 100 in some cases. It made a worthwhile improvement for me. However, we are talking arma. Everyone seems to have different results even when using the same hardware.

The Storm Scout looks suspiciously like the Antec 900.What has age got to do with how good it is?
I've read some head to head reviews that put the Antec 900 ahead of the HAF932. And the guys on the forum you talk about are hardly the most reliable source as I'm willing to bet that none of them have the Antec 900, when means their opinions are completely non-objective. I'd look for comparitive reviews, or reviews of the two cases done by the same website.
At any rate, the best cases are Lian Li ones, but they can be quite expensive.
Well you can read some of the debate here: http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=100870448&mpage=1&key=
Alot of these guys are modders, most over overclockers. Opinions are like assholes of course, but my point was that alot of these guys preferred the haf over the antec 1200 (which I am running btw) and several have ran the 900 previously.
The 1200 is basically just an upgraded 900. Alof of guys are taking the haf over the 1200 so if I had to pick between the 900 and the haf I would pick the haf.
Of course, the haf is 40 bucks more expensive than the 900 atm.
A case is a case is a case pretty much. For this guy it probably wouldn't matter anyway.
It was just a suggestion.

So this gamemode is like Joint Ops? I'm in...It's exactly like Joint ops AAS, just with ARMA 2 style gameplay.
---------- Post added at 10:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:42 PM ----------
AAS would be gold if it fixed the spawn camping requirement. Simply turning it from "red" and "blue" zones into "red zones", "blue zones" and one "black zone", where only the black zone can be capped and opfor/bluefor capping it turns the next blue/red zone into black would make it much better. That way nobody spawns in the zone that is actually being fought over, and thus the spawn camp fest will no longer be worthwhile. The spawn camping is ridiculous I'll give you that, but spawning in AAS hot zones has always been available if your team controls the zone. The problem I think is that the spawn armor doesn't last long enough. I've been in many games this week where I am killed before I can even react and move.
Pisses me off to no end.
Also they need to do something about either the vehicles or the anti-vehicle weapons. Tanks, apc's and such are pretty much worthless with every player toting a javelin. It also seems like armor is pretty weak compared to armor in a co-op game.
-
The BMF AAS server is epic! i'm an old JO player and I love the AAS gametype. There are some drawbacks to it with ARMA but overall it is alot of fun. I've been on it every night this week.
You can't beat PVP warfare.

As far as cases go, here are a few I've been looking at. I appreciate any input that you guys may have. These ones seem to have pretty high marks:
XCLIO A380BK Fully Black SECC 1.0mm thickness ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail
$129.99 -$40.00 Instant $89.99
Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail
$139.99 -$40.00 Instant $99.99
If your going to spend that kind of money on a case I would recommend the HAF 932. Alot of the guys on the evga forums swear by them as being one of the best aircooled cases available atm. Also they have fantastic cable routing.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119160
The antec 900 is an older case and I would definitely recommend the HAF over it.
Of course, looks are subjective. You may not like the haf. But IMO it's the obvious choice.
The storm sniper is also supposed to be a pretty good case.

Also be really careful if you are counting on rebates. Many are a PITA just to get the stuff turned in on time and correct and then you have to wait forever before you get them most of the time. That is if you get them at all. Many of them make you jump through hoops in hopes you do something wrong so they can invalidate the rebate.
I despise the rebate system. Be wary.

"dumbed down"! Whats that supposed to mean! PC players and console players are no different! How would that be "dumbed down"! There are more people with PS3s that could play it than people with PCs that could. It means by the time they strip it down enough (graphically) so the PS3 can handle running it you probably won't recognize the game.
Much less the controller issue.
It may get to PS3 sooner or later, but it will definitely have to be tweaked to hell so the PS3 hardware can handle it.
I'm no PS3 hater either. I have one, and a 360 for what it's worth.

Why is everyone so hell bent on the i7? Sure, it's great, but you can get a Phenom II 955 Black Edition for what, $209?, or a 965 Black Edition for $250? Grab a Crossfire board and a single 4890 for now, you're around ~$600/$650 W/ 965BE. I'd go AMD, with a Crossfire certified board, and you'll have a machine that will rip through Arma 2 even before you add your second 4890 down the road. The i7's are dope, but the Phenom II's in the right hands are ~, regardless.Shoot for a rig like this, and you can have a great Cpu with good overclocking abilities, DDR3 memory, a high quality Psu, and if you're not picky, a 1TB HDD, PLUS your second 4890 for just over a grand. I mean how can you mess with that?
Oh wait he can't build can he...uhg. Well then, heh, the doors are wide open, but like everyone has said steer clear of that machine you posted with the GT220, that card just won't run Arma 2(my 2nd rig has a 9800GTX+ 1GB and it's very playable, but it has far more grunt than a GT220), and most any other modern game as well. The lowest card I recommend is the GTS 250 (which is just a 9800GTX+ 1GB with an extra 240mhz in memory speed) and from AMD/ATI the Radeon 4850, but you really gotta shoot for the 4870. There are SLI systems out there with the good Phenom's and i7's for $1,200 or so.
If you go back a page or 2 you'll see that no-one tried to steer him to the i7's until he brought it up because one of his friends recommended it to him.
The Phenom is a great processor but ATM the 955 is around $200 and the 965 is around $250. The 920 is $279 right now on newegg and you can actually buy one at microcenter for$199. http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0302727
For $199 or $279 that is not alot of difference in price compared to the phenoms and judging from all the benchmarks and reviews the i7 is alot more processor.
Of course, the i7 system will cost more to build to get a decent mobo, ram etc. But the i7 920 and the phenom 955/965 processors are very closely priced atm.
If I were on as tight a budget I would probably go AMD. But like I said he was asking about a prebuilt i7 system from dell and and thats why I I showed him how to build a better system for less money.

Here is a thread with a ton of reviews in it. Most of these reviews bench the card with 3D Mark during the testing. You just have to thumb through them.
