    RICHMOND, Va. — A 90-year-old Medal of Honor recipient can keep his 21-foot flagpole in his front yard after a homeowner's association dropped its request to remove it, a spokesman for Democratic Virginia Sen. Mark Warner said Tuesday.

    The Sussex Square homeowners' association likewise has agreed to drop threats to take legal action against retired Army Col. Van T. Barfoot, Warner spokesman Kevin Hall said.

    The association had threatened to take Barfoot to court if he failed to remove the pole from his suburban Richmond home by Friday. It had said the pole violated the neighborhood's aesthetic guidelines.

    Neither Barfoot's daughter, Margaret Nicholls, nor homeowners' president Glenn Wilson immediately returned telephone messages.

    Dropping the issue effectively ends a request that White House press secretary Robert Gibbs on Monday called "silly."

    Warner and Sen. Jim Webb, both Virginia Democrats, had rallied behind Barfoot, a World War II veteran.

    In a letter last week, Webb urged the association to "consider the exceptional nature of Col. Barfoot's service when considering his pride and determination in honoring our flag."

    Barfoot's fight also has lit up veterans bulletin boards and blog sites supporting him.

    Barfoot won the Medal of Honor for actions while his platoon was under German assault near Carano, Italy, in May 1944. He was credited with standing up to three German tanks with a bazooka and stopping their advance.

    He also won the Purple Heart and other decorations, and served in Korea and Vietnam before retiring from the service in 1974.

    4-5% ? 280 milions vs. over 6 bilions (6*10^9) of people

    US citizens use almost twice more electrical energy than whole Europe (counted in MWh)

    while whole Europe is over twice more people than US has

    so if US is 40% of europe and uses over twice energy, than means 1 american uses ca. 4 times more electricity than european

    i have no idea how it comes to fuel, but we don't use 8 cylinders 6 litters pickups, but 1.3 liter engines, public transport

    usual bus can drive 30-50 people to work burning 30-50 liters of fuel ?

    this average 40 people in US drive by 40 cars burning each 15-20 liters ? (unless they use car, not hummers)

    40 * 17 = nearly 700 litters vs. average 40 ??? to drive for example 40 statistical units ?

    of course bus makes more routes than car of individual , of course we not go 50 km to work

    but it is other issue , which of course may a little explanation for differences

    but of course to drive to work hummer or big pickup is not necessary, 3 cars for one person is not needed while "Sicko" movie shows other problems

    a lot of law regulations like too big privacy law when you search for someone who owe you money (has debt) and avoid to pay, many things like adress and etc. are protected by privacy law,

    we and them have opposite philosophy when it comes to care about each other and solidarity inside society, they call "commie" all that we want as "state and law should care about weaker and poor" , they not ...

    Hey we did't ask for help from USA.

    We promise to cut emission by 25%.but what your country doing.what wrong with your government.MR obama should make a clear statement at copenhagen.

    Somebody has. It's been all over the news here this morning that part of this conference is devoted to getting cash from the US to help developing countries clean up.

    If we had money that would be one thing, but we are over 10% unemployment.......in debt to our eyeballs and on the brink of another great depression.

    MSC , 2002 ended university of technology and because of respect i would not dare to questioning reports of people with professor's degree or doctor's degree, cause the more i learn, the more i see how far i am from being good and the more i need to know

    only arrogants and over-self confident ignorants could dare to questioning reports made by scientists, not being scientists themselves

    and i work with doctors of chemistry cause i work in one of agencies that also cooperate with market surveillance and i know what greedy companies management do "to have more money"

    Some of these "Experts" got busted mere weeks ago when their emails were hacked. These hacked emails showed a blatant manipulation of data and supression of data that went against the crap they are trying to shove down everyones throats.

    Yet you want to sit here and try to criticize our education levels because we don't fall in line and follow these con-artists like good little lemmings should? gtfo.

    This Copenhagen conference is a farce. They are already trying to get the US to GIVE billions of dollars to developing countries to help them go green as a punishment for polluting over the years.

    I'll tell you what. If our government gives one red f'n penny to ANY country over this matter you will see a backlash in the US like you have never seen.

    Maybe thats because half our citizens don't live like they are still living in the middle ages. How many Europeans have electricity and live in a house bigger than a shoebox? Hell my living room was almost as big as my buddies entire apartment in Italy.

    I've been to Italy, Germany, and Denmark and seen how many people live.

    Tiny houses, Tiny cars and most ride bikes and use public transport. How far do you commute for work? I travel minimum of 40 miles per day hauling equipment and supplies. Sorry that don't work on a bicycle.

    The US infrastructure isn't set up for that. The US is too large for public transport and bike lanes to be used anywhere but big cities mostly.

    That said, I don't drive huge cars. My wife has a VW jetta for what it's worth. But for me I have to have a truck for work.

    In this discussion I am missing one aspect of this all:

    Flying a flag in an everyday and closely living community maybe means that I do stick a button on all their breasts.

    At least it could be so - none of us knows and none of us posters here did ask for this.

    How tall is that flagpole? How big is the flag? Does it stand separate? Is it possible to recognize that only one special person is flying the flag or does it seem the whole community of owners is flying the flag?

    What about the freedom of those who oppose 'states flag flying' for good reasons?

    What about living in an appartment "under that flag" if it's a communists, an anti-abortion flag or even homosexual-flag over your appartement?

    Each of this persons could have earned a lot honors for mankind too.

    If you aren't able to imagine what that could be, but only can think in terms of military-like-honors - should that be his or your problem?

    But you would feel a bit uneasy under their flag?

    You sure would.

    A flag is a symbol.

    And for many it's kind of holy thing.

    For the one who flies the flag it mostly is.

    It's a symbolists action.

    You want to express yourself with it.

    But you can't ask others to do the same.

    Each his own flag.

    In a free country. In a free world.

    Spare us the politcal correctness please. We live in the United States. Not the homosexual states, or the abortion states or the communism states for that matter.

    Any citizen of this country should have the right to fly the flag of this country if they choose. Anyone that has a problem with that needs to get over it.

    I posted earlier that I was in agreement about climate change. Now I want to retract that stance. Since "email-gate" has surfaced I have changed my opinion about this farce for the most part.

    Furthermore if you are overly concerned about global warming, you need to get off the net.

    Do some research about how much energy you are using surfing the web, doing emails and stuff and realize you're a major part of the problem you are railing against.

    in some very scientific and demanding knowledge areas - a lot of people say "i don't agree with scientists"

    who are them to dare doubt in scientists' opinions ?

    are they doctors of chemistry, doctors of medicine, doctors of environmental science to "know better" ?

    pollution and alergy - those are for me clear, but concerning "warming causes" i won't say anything

    but i have "only" MSc, sometimes people with secondary school "knows better" than PhD etc.

    some people are too self confident, some are ignorants to facts or not understand facts, some completely others have philosophy "the more i learn, the more i see how far i am from being perfect"

    if you criticize scientists - what is your education level ?

    if you are also doctor and you know they lie for some "lobby" - okay, hats off

    if you are not educated but you "know better" and you "no need to believe" - you are ignorant as*** or simply too young and in time you will change opinion (when i was young i had other opinions, i was also self-confident much more than now)

    that's my opinion

    that's why me, as engineer in one area, not dare to questioning those reports - simply i am too small to dare judge such reports

    thats why i focused in my posts on pollution, on allergy < i know it and i see it around me (i wrote about cooperating with market surveillance in previous page )

    but for heaven sake i have no opinion when it comes to global warming effects

    if someone of you deny human-industry-cause for warming - you mislead topic

    cause you concentrate on "temperature", while "pollution" is : allergic kid , people poisoned by food, people poisoned by products, dying trees , sneezing and eyes crying etc.

    pollution is when you buy boots and they unglue and you have to throw them into trash after 3 months

    pollution is when your cake is not packed in paper, but in your trash bin there is kilo of PE, PP etc.

    and knowledge issue about pollution (what i said , when one man have TV station, his friend has poisoning plant, will you know about it?)

    global warming is "famous word", and discussion went to it too much, as we (here) cannot judge scientist reports about temperature effect causes, such discussion is pointless

    global warming is just one of terms and i divide it from "pollution"

    i cannot see "temperature effect cause", but i can see "fishing forbidden" near lake and water too dirty to see depth of lake

    i can hear my family members (4 work as medics) saying "more and more newborn and kids are allergic"

    in some european countries - market surveillance and ecological knowledge/conscience is big, supported by TV and press

    in other countries "big companies lobby" choke such knowledge , thanx to internet we can know more

    if we chat about "Changing environment due to pollution" - yes, damn, pollution changes world around very much and very against us - normal people

    we don't earn so much as polluters owners - to buy water from some clean areas (we use water from sink in wall/kitchen/bathroom) , to buy fresh air by going for month holidays to clean area, we don't have money for expensive exclusive super clean food etc.

    one who pollutes earns killing us

    LOL @ all the people trying to change the name from global warming to other things now.

    Never ever buy a house that forces you to join a homeowners association unless you know damn good and well what you are getting into. It seems like every year there is a story like this where some stiff upper lip having neighbors get miffed over flags or Christmas lights or something of the sort.

    When I bought my home the first thing I asked was if I had to join a homeowners covenance before I bought it.

    You launch Steam in offline mode and play your games without internet.

    X2. And even if your internet goes down you can launch games in steam if you logged in before it went down. I just disabled my internet and checked to make 100% sure and I was able to launch several single player games with no connection.

    2. sometimes (more often than not) the Steam servers don't work and I have to wait.

    What a bunch of bologna. Almost every game I own is on steam and I have yet to try to play one and not be able to because steam is down. If your gonna bash steam at least be honest about it.

    Οh hey, hi I would like to take a moment to tell you that I hate Steam with everything I've got. I wish DIGITAL CANCER on everything Steam related. Steam is the antichrist of Pc gaming.

    Last night I had a friend around who wanted to play MW2 single player. Ok? He played the first two levels a few days ago and he wanted to continue.

    Steam had a different opinion. "I AM SORRY HUMAN, WE, THE STEAM LEGION HAVE PROBLEMS AND YOU SHALL NOT PLAY THE GAME YOU PAID FOR, BECAUSE WE JUST DON'T FEEL LIKE IT! GO AWAY HUMAN! THE STEAM HAVE SPOKEN!"

    I had to reset my password 8 times. I restarted my computer twice. I checked my firewall settings, I even exited some security programs just in case.

    Steam wouldn't let me log in.

    For forty minutes.

    Now am I the only one who sees a problem with this?

    I understand that I HAVE to log in to play mp games. I understand that because it makes sense. You cannot play multiplayer without logging in to Steam.

    But what the hell does the internet have to do with the single player game? Why do I have to wait for forty fucking minutes to play a game? I don't care if your servers are down Steam, I really don't give a shit because I didn't ask for this.

    I am sick of this. Steam is pure shit. Pure smelly buggy pig shit.

    That happens when you give total control to a bunch of suits...

    Maybe it's just you. I have never had an issue like this with steam. Neither have the guys in my squad and there are loads of us using it for that matter.

    I'd agree with that, I can get great half-off deals on Steam, I haven't bought a PC game at a store in years. The last physical game disc I have is DCS Black Shark since you can't get it on steam and that was ordered online.

    If it isn't on Steam and if it isn't on sale, I'm probably not getting it for the PC

    X2 I don't own a single game on disc anymore.

    I'm surprised at all the pc gamers back-tracking and buying this game after all the fuss. I've seen guys on the IW forums that swore to death they would boycott now posting over there saying they went out and bought it anyway.

    For me, I'm still boycotting.

    It's the principle of the thing.

    In all my life I've witnessed to a lot of consumer boycotts. I don't remember one successful. It makes me mad. Shameful.

    I'm still boycotting............but yea, after reading forums all day it seems alot of PC gamers that were frothing at the mouth up till release went out and bought the game despite claiming they would boycott it.
