Arma 2 Addon request thread
Archamedes replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I am after a map/island and i dont know how to make this myself and anyone that knows how to make any island would find this very easy. All i need is a simple white infinite plane with white sky. I want to create the matrix effect when neo is being shown what the matrix is and morpheus brings him to the completely white enviornment (the one where the endless shelves of guns appears) So nothing in it apart from white ground and white sky. If someone could spend a few minutes putting this together i would be very greatful -

Need a Very Simple map
Archamedes replied to Archamedes's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : TERRAIN - (Visitor)
yes sure no problem -
medal of honor was on the scene way before call of duty so calling it a copycat would be hipocrytical. I remember the first one on the paystation 1 then the allied assault, then apcific assault and finally airborne. all good games, but yeah ww2 has been murdered as far as fps games go. I am still waiting to see a decent world war 1 game. after all that was the most bloodiest and dirtiest war of them all.

remember the days back in the mid 90s where games such as space quest and monkey island came out in big cardboard display boxes? elite 2 frontier was the best as it came with manuals, story novels fictional newspaper stories everything. you couldnt get all that now without resorting to pdf

This is what they see as the price of piracy. Even though they still make their millions in actual sales they screw over the rest of us just to protect their own products, yet the pirates still win. Because the steam version of Modern warfare 2 was completely hacked and still able to be installed with no disc required and all steam copy protection bypassed. And due to the large amount of complaints/problems with DRM world in conflict (and its expansion soviet assault) even had the drm disc check removed with the latest official patch so any pirate could just download the whole game and patch it up.

I have to admit im definatly not a fan of steam. i bought aliens vs predator for pc and after installing it, i was forced to be online to play single player game. I am not interested in going online downloading crap for the game or playing multiplayer. I am also using an internet dongle and sometimes can only connect to steam between midnight and 4pm. I think its wrong for them to do this because there are still people out there that have computers but dont have the internet. And secondly i dont think anybody would bother trying to pirate aliens vs predator anyway

It seems as always hollywood is running out of ideas so they decide to modernise/ruin classic films that aren't broken so dont fix them, a bit like sally's yellow porsche. one minute its all dented and scratched up, then when arnie flips it back up its brand new. But I am not happy about this at all. and judging by that link, nobody has given any positive comments about it. I really think fox needs to be told that they really are wasting their money and that this film is a fail before its even made. Leave it alone, Veron wells was reached for comment, i quote "Nobody plays a better sociopathic freddie mercury then me! NOBODY!!" I still love the dialogue between matrix and bennet at the end. I still recite those lines now when drunk with mates. "you don't want to shoot me, you want to stick a knife in me... so throw away dat chicken shit gun and...... Get To Da Choppah!"

laser airstrikes please!!!
Archamedes posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Hi I have struggled to find a good answer on this. Nearly every airstrike thread i have found links me to the secops thread which is filled with people asking questions and only half getting the answers they need. I still cant find what i need to know and that is how to call in an airstrike on a town while using the laser designator. I am new to this so i do need to know what all the scripts are to add into the activation field and what modules (if any need to be synced to my player.) This is the last thing i really need to understand. I tried to disect the first mission in harvest red in which you can call in a strike on the town but it was far too scripted to understand. -
I can only assume there is a limited amount of pirates (i realise a good thing catches on) so after a while when a lot are either arrested or dead the rest may give up. I am probably completely wrong and ignorant to the fact there could potentially be millions of them but hey i guess its an optomistic thought

I think that the marines should be posted on random civil ships in high attack areas. I am not sure if they are already doing this and i can appreciate that most are fighting in iraq or afghanistan, however there are a lot of other european countries that are not involved with the middle east that could spare the men. i think it would make all the crew feel a bit safer when travelling out, it would deffinatly make these bastards think twice, especially if they get blown out of the water before they even get to board.

dont have a link for it but remember watching it on the news last year, think it was the french or italian navy

This has been a question i have always wondered the answer too for many years now. But any combat game, be it medal of honor, COD Flashpoint/flashpoint 2, Arma, World conflict. The games in general always seem to favor the americans. So do people in Germany and russia in particular get annoyed when playing these games that you are in effect forced to fight against your own country? Mainly for ww2 or cold war games. I know that arma and flashpoint favor each depending on the mission editor but it just seems to be a genralisation in most games. When i played medal of honor allied assault i always wanted to play it from germanies point of view, but no option to do this

I am a big fan of the splinter cell games and still play and have the first 4. Always good to see how it evolves, and damn the first one is soo difficult now. Anyway, the 2 year wait was definatly worth it, The game has definatly got me hooked. No more blocks on killing, you can kill everyone. sam can now pick up guns from enemies and upgrade them o have sights, silencers and scopes. The game has also adopted the rainbow 6 vegas hide behind cover move instead of the simple wall walk. The one thing i love the most that makes it more realistic and much harder is guards will relentlessly presue you, flank you and shine torches in darker areas. In previous games you would alert a guard and he would follow a set patrol route, and give up after 30 seconds then return. Now they will randomise their path and completely cover an entire building, shining into the rafters, over the side of walkways (in case you are hanging down waiting to jump up and pull them over) and will properly investigate a whole area. I actually didnt expect this and was caught out when i realised the soldiers from the very other end of a double warehouse just kept on coming from one end to the other and it wasn't a small area either. Another thing that bothered me was that enemies in previous games had a very limited or repeated 2 line dialogue when speaking to themselves or when looking for you. Now each soldier has a completely unique long listed dialogue, using swear words, ambiant radio chatter, and taunting you out of the dark. The cinematics and shakey camera makes it look beautiful, the interrogation technique is awesome. You can bash them into the destructible enviornment and actually see them start to bruise and bleed. The mark and execute move is really fun to do, and is another rainbow 6 feature. The cool thing is that after you have marked your targets you only press one button and sam will perform the shooting himself without having to aim, He will do it in a stylish hollywood style too. but you cant do it willy nilly. In order to be awarded a mark and execute move you have to complete a stealth hand to hand takedown. Finally theres the last known position. When the enemies last spot you a sillouette of sam will appear and enemies will suppress that area until they either run over and realise you aren't there anymore or spot you somewhere else. Its very handy for flanking or escaping anyhow i will definatley be playing this for some time to come

I have to admit after watching that clip it really does show how accurate they are in a sense of riding the sholder of the soldier. As i said before no doubt that in a few years boot camps will be filled with projector screens and video demonstrations rather than an officer teaching the theory from a book. However those somalian pirates really are mean little bastards. Its about time they got whats coming to them, a bit like those pirates last year that put a capital S on stupidity by raiding a boat that just happened to be a fully armed navy vessel with over 2000 sailors, marines and badasses that welcomed them on board with a beating and an immediate tour of the brig.

used for future training or even debriefing a mission. no exuses or bullshit with a camera and you will be court marshalled for those innocents you wiped out and forgot to mention

The way i see it, with the way we have progressed over the last 70 years i cannot see germany being an enemy in the future. (saying that it wasn't strictly germany, just hitlers crazy ideas of ruling europe.) Russia? Not sure, i mean every now and again there is a slight hiccup between russia and america but its always really been kept under control and i guess it only takes that one big thing that could spark a war. Korea every now and again upsets someone due to them stockpiling nukes (again with america telling other countries what they can and cant do.) But at the moment it seems the only real war is the one going on in the middle east but how can it ever end? the taliban have been fighting for centuries, war is all they know and getting them to stop wont be easy. I can only see us fighting them for 50 years to come before everyone sits down and says "so we have been at war for 50 years, spent trillions and lost soo many of our soldiers, where has it got us?" Asside from all that it is never really the country or its people that cause the wars its mainly the politicians or people in charge that cause or start them. All it takes is one fanatic/crazy politician to take over a country and thats it. We all seem to be getting along fine at the moment and wether or not our governments admit or deny it we are always spying on other countries to see what they are up to.

just in case some people start to get daring and cross the line (which it hasn't yet thank god we are being mature about this) can any french/german/american jokes be kept light hearted
-
im sure most have heard the classic french joke "the french hate americans and british, except when the german army is sitting in paris." That is actually a dumbed down sketch made by robin williams on one of his stand up shows he did
-
oh that has cleared up something i have wondered about for a long time. I gathered it may have been something very roughly along those lines but just wanted to be sure

lol do you think tom cruise would have made it through the whole film of valkyrie if he had to speak full german? I think his tall midget head would have popped. However there is one thing i am desperatly trying to translate in a film. The scene in saving private ryan at the end where the american (jew) and the nazi are doing hand to hand combat. The german ends up stabbing him and he says a sentence in german but there is no subtitle or even closed caption to explain what it is he is saying. It really would be good for someone to translate that sentence.

I am hardly surprised by those stats being as playstation and xbox are soley made for gaming yet a pc is a universal computer meant for so much more. If it were stats on sales of microsoft office (and for arguements sake it was compatible for both ps3 and xbox) what platform do you think office would be most popular on?

a lot of people are categorizing the nazis away from being german people. The nazis had family, friends and lives and those familes have spawned newer generations that live on today. They were still german citzens regardless of being nazies or being drafted in to fight. We live in a different world 70 years on we have put the past behind us and get on very well. i still listen to my grandfather as he tells me the stories of when he was a young british soldier fighting the nazis, and i am sure this is true for german people listening to their grandfathers. Alough games do try to make villans out of the opposition you have to remember that the soldiers from both sides were human beings and fought because they were ordered to by the governments, not because they were war hungry barbarians. I feel this about the german soldiers of world war 2 as well as my own. If all the soldiers in ww2 had a choice im sure none would have wanted to fight each other.

oops my mistake, but even so still a petty reason to ban it

only for 1 level the rest of the game is a war against russia again strenghening my point. However the story is very cleverly put together because the russians aren't made out to be evil or the baddies.
