First of all: to all crossfire/dual GPU core users:This is one reason why I don't buy your setups.
As new games come out you're dependant on a 3rd party company (ATI/NVidia) to sort out new crossfire/blabla profiles. That in turn means that if a big big big company churns out a new game, you'll have an updated profile within days/ a week. Smaller developers... you have to pray. Please do tell us all how BIS is supposed to create a working crossfire profile for your ATICard and push that out automatically to all ATI users. Don't blame a developer for buggy technology that should be standardised accross the board and should really not even NEED profiles or at least be able to default to a decently working one if none exist. The only real reason crossfire and it's NVIDIA counterpart were invented is for you to buy more cards, while they can stall new technology. Historically you'll see that each new highperformance card just about adds up to the performance of 2 combined earlier tech cards. This is not a coincidence, it's called marketing and you bought into it.
Second: turn down the postprocessing setting in your config, stop upscaling to 200% of native resolution, stop trying to set all settings superhigh (except for shadows which should be high/very high to use GPU).
Third: Ati has some strangeness in Anti Aliasing implementation which makes it run slower then on NVIDIA cards. Either drop it or live with it.
Fourth: If the game runs at 40-50 FPS on average you don't have great performance issues and are simply moaning.
For me the game is running pretty good but that's a pretty subjective thing.
If you can't put up with installing a patch now and then, this game/engine might not be for you. Go play something optimised with 400m VD and all the rest faked.
Sorry for my blatentness... i'm just so fed up with people moaning about they ultra mega super crossfire setup giving them hassles that it makes me puke.
No offense but your telling us something we already know. The problem is the game runs the same on low or high settings regardless what you set any graphic option too.
Just to note, most of us dual GPU users are aware that our cards are as powerful as the next gen single. The reason we get them is because not all of us buy new cards every generation.
I build a new rig every 4 years, but I alway used the top model GPU at time to get the most for years to come. I dont need to pay 400 bucks for DX11. Theres no big marketing plan to fool us. We are aware of what a Dual GPU card does and doesnt do. Its called research.
I didnt use any scaling at all. 1680x1050 is all I use. I only use AA in games that have decent performance with a single GPU (arma 2 not one of them). Those that have poor crossfire performance I disable a GPU and gain some performance back.
I've always ran arma with default medium settings to keep things simple. However I can max out everything and get the same performance, but its not 40fps even on the lowest settings. I wish I could maintain 40fps.
I have trifire, and just for fokes who say the whole problem lies in crossfire. I removed the 4870 x2 and tried yet again with a fresh install and my single 4870, and get the same performance.
So do you have any other suggestions to add?

This is the reaction you need to avoid - I know it's easy to fall into with Arma 2.Have patience. Don't think about buying new hardware etc. Having a more powerful machine will not necessarily give you better performance until they implement the changes they made in Arma2 patch 1.07 into OA.exe, which is currently at a different stage of architecture.
If it is getting that frustrating, leave OA for a month and come back and see what they have done to help. You can lose days trying to tweak for better performance which is caused entirely by the program.
And I really hate to have this reaction, but I just want to enjoy the sim, not read forums for hours trying to debug the latest issue and dissassemble my rig just for this particular sim/game. When everything else I have runs absolutely flawless.
THe thing is I've supported this game since its release. I was one of the people that said give it a chance they'll get it figured out.
Then as each patch came out more issues came along. The performance really hasnt changed much. Maybe in some areas but overall its still the same.
Then they release this rediculous addon without even solving much of the problems.
I have still yet to complete the campaign or even learn much of the basic skills to play the game properly due to constant issues.
I'm uninstalling the game for now, and since I'm stuck with it via steam, maybe I'll check back in a year or 2 and maybe then the game will be much better by then.
My apologizes if I may seem rude, but enough is enough. I want to enjoy some gaming this summer.

I'm so sick of this Sim. I've reconfigured tweaked and broken my windows OS 3 times trying to get this garbage to run. Even RMAed some hardware after people getting me to belive it was my rig that had a hard time runing it. Each new patch just made the game worst and worst.
I do even have time to learn the game properly because I spend most of the time tweaking.
I give up, I wish I never bought it to begin with. My only regret is I cant get a refund thru steam.
I dont care how realistic it is. Its completely useless to play. My system is mainstream and should beable to play this sim perfectly fine.
I'm going back to playing DCS Black shark.

Got the patch from fileshack. I dont have any special mods or anything.
The game is completely stock other than the previous patches. If anything got corrupted it was caused by any previous patches.
So I'm going to blame it on poor patching preperation. Never had to reinstall a game just to apply a patch. This is rediculous.
One more patch and I'm uninstalling for good,

I only got the buildings2 error. installing this patch to the steam version. I told it to retry and it just showed that error in the details box, but the patch continued to install and said updated sucessfully.
I'm going to run the game and see what happens anyway. I'll report back what happens. If I have to redownload the game from steam again I'm going to be pissed. (3rd time)

The arma vets vagina's ache when you talk bad about this game. Just ignore them.
9.8s didnt do anything for me, but I got an increase with my other games as usual. This game just runs shitty, period.
-
I have a single card 260 with I7 and Windows 7 and I still can't play the game. I had SLI, but since ArmA2 sucked so badly and crashed constantly I gave away one of my cards. You gave away one of your 260s solely because of this game?
ATI is no better than nvidia, some games run better on one than the other. Its like buy a 2004 Ford chevy pick up. You either get a rotted out exhaust header on the ford, or a rotted out panels on the chevy.

No longer locked on Vista 64 either. After the patch installed I ran the game and saw some good increase in performance, but the fps were locked.
One thing I noticed was everything was set back to default so I put everything back on very high with 2x AA.
-
Since the update I've been getting this error on the campaign loading screen.
Anyone else?
-
Ok this is weird. THe fps drop to 25 in campaign so I turned AA back off. Now I have 54 fps in the woods. I'm at the Napa base on the Delaying the bear mission.
Weird.
-
I too have capped Fps. 60 on the island, 29 at campaign, and 31 in multiplayer.
Something to do with the game. Doesnt matter were I am on the map.
Not that big a deal because I run everything at max.
I'm going to turn on AA and see if it drops.

Weird, same fps with 2x AA.

I've got a laptop and can surf the internet fine on it. Just thought I too would post that here as it appears to be the place to post something of no relevance in the TROUBLESHOOTING forums. See the hint is in the forums name i.e. 'Trouble' part of the troubleshooting, if you wish to praise your systems and tell everyone then why not post that in the 'General' forum, that way its a 'General' topic and is more relevant.I know this post will most likely piss people off again but I really don't understand why folk are so intent of posting 'my system works 100%' in a forum topic about a specific problem, I mean, its would make sense if it was 'my system works 100% now that I have <insert your personal fix here> after it too had the issue', am I missing the whole point here ?
Your not pissin anyone off thrott.
Myself, I think it helps as it would be nice to know who has this game working with the ati cards, that way we can atleased pinpoint whats working and what isnt. Compare and figure out where the flaw lies.
If someone has a 4870x2 working flawlessly I'd like to know and atleased rule that out as the culprit.
Just my thought.

If your installing new cat drivers over the old ones the cat installer removes the old driver first so theres no need to use any driver cleaning utilities unless your going back to old drivers.
Been doing this since 8.12 and never had an issue. Used Driver cleaner and it wouldnt allow the new drivers to install for some strange reason. I had to uninstall Driver cleaner and then they worked fine.
-
I think the 9.7 drivers are in the right direction.
Nice boast to my other simulations so, but only a marginal increase with Arma 2.
1680x1050 100% fillrate, no AA they seem to be a real fps killler with AA being the worst. I can deal with the lines.
Eveything on very high, view at 2.5k, grass on, I manage 25 to 35 fps in campaign mode, and I hit the cap in utes or whatever you call it.
I get an ocassional warped image if I walk in a certain area, and odd texture loading deal in the towns. I did get that odd thing where my guys were all white, but it fixed itself after few seconds. Happened after using the UAV.
That texture deal is the problem of all problems as far as the graphics go. Maybe even the cause of all the distortion me thinks. Least on my end. If it where not for that, my fps would stay higher rather than diping while shit loads.
I think I got a small gain with crossfire now working without the winxp command. 9.6 with the winxp add in made no difference or renaming the exe.
Tried overclocking the CPU to 3.8 gigs but the gain wasnt even worth it so I went back to stock. My Asus tri fan 4870 x2 works well and never gets above 60c so I dont think I'm having heat issues. (Nice job Asus.)
Fix that texture deal and we'd have a cockin sim.
Full specs of my rig for comparison:
Intel Core I7 920 stock
Asus Tri Fan 4870 x2 2gigs ram
Gigabyte X58 UD5 mobo
6 gigs corsair dominator
Corsair 750BTX PSU
Antec 300 case
4 120mm antec fan
1 140mm Antec fan
Vigor Monsoon III CPU cooler.

LOL! Thats more like it.
For the record Chaos probly didnt realize there was a fixp before he made his post. He hasnt replied since, and is probly stroking his wood at how wonderful it really looks.

Why dont you all smoke some hash laugh this off.
This isnt the first game with issues and it sure wont be the last.
Since you guys are flexing your gaming experience. I've been gaming since I got my atari 2600 in 1986. I was 7 years old. First video game I've ever had. It was like sliced bread, and I was hooked since. I've had 3 explode ( I mean go BOOM), 6 games simply stop working, and some gave garbage screens. Point being, games first time out are always plagued with issues, since the dawn of gaming. ITs very common for every game company to release a game and fix the issues later, some companies close up shop never to be heard from again. (Falcon 4.0 anyone?)
You guys dont need to beat the crap out of yourself over it. The games only been out a month, ease up boys.
Not trying to be a smartass, just seriously take a chill pill guys.
-
Bug free, and everything working as listed on the box?
I'd pay a 100 bucks or more for it.
-
It could be 30 years of gaming catching up to you and it just so happens arma 2 came out right around the time your issues started showing early signs of Epilepsy.
Every game can cause this by the way not just arma 2. Worst playing on larger displays. Happens with consoles too.
If the conditions persist, discontinue playing and find an alternative game to play, or have test done on you.
Seriously, a 50 dollar game isnt worth getting brain damage or death.

I have a 4870 x2, I7 920 tried it stock and OCed to 3.6ghz. 6 gigs ram, Vista 64, same results. 35 to 45fps in open areas 15 to 25 in the woods or in towns, with or without CF.
All settings on very high, 2k view distance, no AF at 1680x1050, anything higher results in unplayable performance
I guess I cant complain as I see people with more powerful rigs getting worst performance, and I dont get that bad of texture problems most are having.
-
I would be glad if they would just fix the campaigne bugs. I can deal with most of the other problems.
I dont play much online except with my league as it is hard to get people to work with you and no run off like BF2 players.
-
I used the -winxp command. I didnt get any performance increase but it did help stabilize the game as I dont get any fps drop.
25 to 40 fps at 1680x1050
Everything on high expect I shut off AA.
Would love to run AA, but it just the fps drop to 15 20 in heavy graphic areas. Not impressed but the game stays stable.

Same here, I pluged in my joystick and gave it a shot, I was blown away when things went south, wow!
