  1. Rifle platoons don't have SMAWs. The "weapons squad" in a rifle platoon is 7 guys, 2 3-man M240 machine gun teams and a squad leader.

SMAWs come in at the weapons platoon level, assault section organically. They are usually detached in pairs (gunner, assistant gunner with 1 SMAW and ~5 rounds) like the bazooka teams in the old war movies.

No weapons squad in a "stock" Marine rifle platoon. USMC holds all it's CSWs, machine guns, SMAWs and mortars, in the company weapons platoon. A four man (two teams of two) assault squad is chopped, although depending on mission, they may have only one SMAW while the rest carry breach.

I detest that the "fix" for the 4-round AT4 gunner was to make the AT4 round take up 6 of the 12 primary inventory slots. Really? 7 M16 magazines and an AT4 is too much? Gimmie a break. We really need the concept of the magazine in the weapon and not in the pocket for not only AT-4s but all weapons.

Doesn't bother me all that much. You almost never see people taking more than one shot with an AT4, unless they looted their buddies' corpse and plenty of high quality missions stick you with what ammo you can carry. It brings to focus the fact that you have limited resources operating light as an infantry and if realistically depicted, you get far fewer cool, shiny toys than most people would prefer.

  2. No man, when your vest fits properly it doesn't bounce all over the place. This is from experience. You can clearly see that his vest does not fit properly for him, either it's not his vest or he's a non-combatant (or both).

Do you mean his armor or his chest rig when you say vest? His chest rig isn't fastened.

To top it all off, those huge medical equipment bags are usually not carried in actual combat

  3. This is the best I could find to explain why the numbers in Arma 2 aren't really the opposite of real life... They're just opposite to places like Northern America. If you're in, say, Australia, then the map coordinates in Arma 2 are just fine. I think there even was a thread discussing where Chernarus is in real world.

I am growing suspicious of your claims of military service if you're mixing up lat/long and military grid references.

  4. Well, seeing as I haven't gotten my copy yet, I didn't know that :p

OK. It was the same in ArmA1 (stock and ACE). Only place that got it right, that I've seen, was WGL in later OFP days.

But it's still basically he same, just count from top to bottom instead :D

More or less, it's just I keep seeing it repeated by people who do have the game. Which makes me wonder if they actually understand what going on with the in-game map and just can't break the habit or are they just repeating what other people say or something they've read out of a field manual...

  5. Just count the vertical lines (from left to right) to find the third number in 62 and the horizontal lines (from bottom to top) to find the third number in 23.

Using your method, the mechanized infantry symbol pictured above is at position 066078. Roughly, because I'm just going off-hand.

Yet I zoom in and see this:

    arma2grid2.jpg

Looks like 066071. In real life, you'd be right, but ArmA counts northings (horiztonal numbers) from top (0) to bottom (9).

  6. I briefly considered jumping in this thread, voting insurgents, then vigorously defending my choice just to piss everyone off with illogical BS. I voted USMC instead since that seems to have done the trick on a few already.

You guys need to seriously lighten up.

  7. I just prefer to have a map in my hands and be able to freehand make my own marks and notations. A little more interactive than ArmA2's map on the higher difficulties.

Which setting does not allow you to put marks down?

At any rate, I just use the "right down your throat" mnemonic to remember how to read the map in ArmA2. Slightly disappointed that they got the northings upside down, but hopefully ACE will fix that.

  8. Didn't know there was a zone restriction module, heh never checked. In my map I just make a big a couple big box triggers surrounding the AO. First one gives you a warning if you leave it, second one puts a bullet between your eyes.

Problem in my case is the AI. It winds up quite frequently piled up dead at the boundaries, thanks to the new flanking behavior driving it very wide of it's target.

  9. By "don't fit" I mean that it seems his vest size was adjusted for someone much bigger than him, and the backpack adjusted for someone much smaller then him.

It's like you go and wear pants 2 sizes under your size and shoes 2 sizes above your size and then go for a jog. You'll probably fall down too.

That's actually what you look like when suited and booted...

  10. aint that the truth, so many servers with their stupid realism, dont get me wrong its fun everyone once in a while but not every damn day, GO OUT AND GET SOME PVP!

I run three servers as of this moment. 1429EST, Domination has 22/30, mission-based Co-op has 0/24 and Devastation has 0/48. I'm as bored with Domination as anyone else (been playing it more or less continuously since January), but I'm not blind to the fact that Domination servers are often as not self-populating while even if I forcibly kickstart my Devastation server with ten people, we might get up to the 20 after two hours. I put that many on Domination and it will be packed solid within fifteen minutes. Co-op is somewhere between.

  11. you shouldnt CQB'ing that tank then

Eh, I do it and generally survive, as long as it's a Thunder Run and not just sitting there chillin', waiting for someone cite me for "Loitering in an urban area" with an RPG.

judging by this topic it seems the commander position is useless anyway so might as will jump into gunner seat.

It has radar and a optic that isn't like viewing the world through a soda straw.
