  1. Well I had Vista64 but I changed to Win7 because of this game.

It gave me more stable frames and less mouselag (still crappy performance (20FPS) in the mission "Harvest Red" and the single mission "Counter Attack"). Some Vista64ers were talking about a Duoboot, maybe it's something you can think of doing.

    My settings are currently:

    All on V.High

    noAA

    Terrain Normal

    Obj High.

    1920x1200

  2. yeah that's normal.

you might get a boost if you can get a copy of XP. Win7 gave me better performance than Vista64. I still get a pretty unplayable 20fps in the cities though. Turn Terrain detail to normal and object detail to high (it sucks to turn things down with a killer set up I know).

Turn on the Sli indicators to see if you have actually successfully activated Sli.

I heard GTX295 people also got their multicarding to work with the start up parameter "-winxp"

  3. Copied and pasted from the Steam forums by Jacob.

"How to enable SLI w/STEAM vers.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys, this is how I got the "crysis" rename trick to work with STEAM:

    1) Locate arma2.exe; steamapps/common/arma2

    2) Rename arma2.exe to crysis or crysis 64 (.exe)

    3) If you attempt to start the game, it will say unavailable

    4) Right click arma2 on steam my games tab, properties, local files, and click "verify local integrity of game cache"

    5) After this, relocate arma2.exe as above. There should now be two arma2.exe files, one renamed slightly different, rename either of these to Crysis or Crysis64 and your game should run perfectly. Just open nvidia CP and add crysis or crysis64 from the arma steam folder, force vsync off, and you should be in business.

The other solution if for some reason this does not work for you, is download nhancer and manually create and tweak ur arma2 profile from there. Full instructions:

    Quote:

I got Windows Vista 64bit, Geforce 295 GTX and the Steam version of ArmA 2.

ArmA 2 only used one of my cards GPUs (SLI mode wasn't working). I tried the EVGA patch and all the other tweaks but they didn't work either. Afaik the EVGA patch just makes a crysis-like profile for arma2, so I tried to do this manually with nHancer (http://www.nhancer.com/?dat=downloads) and it worked:

First I did a clean 186.16 driver install with Drivers Sweeper. I then opened nHancer and duplicated the crysis profile (right click crysis profile -> dublicate profile).

From the new ArmA2 profile I disabled SLI DX10 Mode (from SLI DX10 tab, not the regular SLI), also disabled Hybrid SLI and Hybrid SLI DX10 modes from SLI tab. (For testing purposes I also enabled the SLI Load Balancing Graph, check box + the ON radio button). From Enhancements tab I disabled Vertical Sync.

Then I added the arma2.exe executable (Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2\arma2.exe) and Steam.exe as a launcher. I didn't know if that's actually considered as a launcher so I added another arma2.exe just in case, without the launcer. To get the SLI load graph working I also checked the "Profile be activated manually" and activated the profile from the menu (Tools -> Activate Profile -> ArmA2).

I ran the game from the .exe (with steam online) and SLI works! FPS in menu increased from 50 to 100 and in-game fps raised a lot as well.

After confirming it works, you can disable the SLI Load balancing graph and set Driver defaults from the menu (Tools -> Activate Profile.)

Hope this helps people struggling with multi-GPU and the EVGA patch."

EVGApatch worked for me when I was using Vista64bit. But I had to use the second method when I switched to Win7.

  4. I am happy for you mate. MASS GRAVES? WHERE? I havn't finished that level yet. (Been too busy losing online:cool:).

What I called the "war hero run", is the killer for me.. aside from that everything is probably 28-40fps in that mission. View distance 2km, all settings on very high, No AA. Terrain on Normal, Objects on High. 1920*1200.

Windows 7 made the difference for me.

  5. I actually deleted my original thesis of a reply.

Let's all agree. Be contempt with what you have and recognise just how spectacular everything is ..if you get too caught up in hard to attain FPS you might miss out on the experience that the developers intendid.

I personally can't explain how much I love the game.

  6. He made a very good point.

If we use our common-sense then its obvious he didn't mean it would be acceptable to play this game at 5 FPS, did he?!

He was just stating that there are way too many fanboys who see Arma 2 as more of a benchmark than a game - at least that is the way it seems to me from this area of the forums.

    Oh, and another thing:

IF I WAS BOHEMIA I WOULD RELEASE THIS GAME IN ITS BETA STAGE...WHY??

BECAUSE THERE ARE LOADS OF CHUMPS LIKE YOU GUYS READY TO TEST IT ALL WEEKEND!!

LOL ...PLAY THE DAMM GAME AND GO AND WHINGE TO YOUR MUM INSTEAD.

Some how I think you mis-interpreted my comment.

I wrote that after reading people's negative replies to him. Now, re-read my comment and see if anything you directed at me is based on any fact or based on your assumptions. You should come to the conclusion that I was having a laugh at how he unwittingly walked into negative feedback heaven.

Troll somewhere else. Your post is just one big whinge? Look at all that CAPSLOCK rofl.

" there are way too many fanboys who see Arma 2 as more of a benchmark than a game - "

    Daft.

Do you know why people started posting benchmarks in the first place?

Do you know how valuable raw data is compared to someone's opinion, "it runs good"?

How can you sit there and presume what other people think?

Why are you even on these forums?

BTW, you are talking to someone who doesn't care so much about FPS being soley for the sake of being a benchmark.

  7. This game should come with a warning.

"Makes other games look like crap. (because they are) "

    ANYWAY

When the helicopter blades are at full rotation the shadows that pass over the dashboard shouldn't show up as individual blades (hence there is a lot of flickering going on). They should show up mirroring how they appear at full rotation, a blur.

I personally don't mind it, but I was a little disappointed when a friend of mine turned shadows completely off because of it LOL!

  8. Fabregas may I please know your system specs? :)

I just wiped Vista64 from my SSD drive and replaced it with Win7 last night.

My arma2 marks stayed the same at around 3800 marks (Binkster Standard), which is rather pathetic given others with single gtx280 (or similar) have penetrated the 4000 and 5000marks (they are XP people though).

If you have forgotten, binkster's standard is, everything on normal settings but post processing on low, 100%Fill and at 1600x1050.

BUT I will say that I no longer experience spikes of 0-10FPS in Harvest Red and Razor Two. I also get less mouse lag (wasn't really a problem anyway). In Havest Red, when I run from the start location to the location where the sniper is (war hero run) and look around whilst running my average FPS is a steady 19-23FPS (Binksters Standard).. If I play with everything on Very high but no AA @ 1900x1200.. I get a steady 17-19FPS (as opposed to my old 0-22FPS). (this is with 186.18)

Also I installed the older version of my Nvidia drivers. Version 181.71. When I did the same "war hero run" in Harvest Red, I got a steady 20-25 FPS using binksters standard. So that didn't really give me a boost either.

I had the Sli Indicators on the whole time and one interesting thing I noted was that they are always barely at half usage?!@ So I might re-overclock my CPU to 3.5Ghz again and see if that makes any difference. Disabling Sli gave me worse performance at the loading screens BUT it pretty much gave me the same performance in the areas I have talked about already, which is a bit of a dissappoint ment knowing my sli isn't being utilised properly. BUT OH WELL stay positive!

All in all, now that I don't have the sudden drops to low FPS, I can play the campaign. I will turn terrain detail to normal though and probably lower object detail aswell.

One last thing... my sound has now become "tinny"/Metallic. Any Ideas on how to fix it (I haven't yet googled it so don't feel obliged to answer).

And another LAST thing... Change your power plans from "Balanced" to "high Performance" via winows control panel.

  9. PLEASE..Can we get back on topic! Let's not take sides. I had to read through the last two pages of unrelated stuff to see if anything related came up! PM Each other, I mean at least you can agree that you are both enthusiasts. :)

Darthbeavis has a point with how watercooling has its benefits when keeping GPUs cool. (GTX cards take up a smeg load of space, kinda hard to get hot air out)

And when it comes to CPUs, let's just agree that the assembly of watercooling takes more research, skill and has a larger degree of risk associated with it (as demonstrated by the original post that sparked off this debate). Performance wise, the two are nearly the same. Air is cheaper, but it's heat transfer coefficient changes depending on ambient temperature.

  10. Numbers are only going to tell what you could be getting compared to his computer. He's not going to go back and do what he was doing before take a bench with fraps post it and then put the ram back in, reinstall Win 7 and do it all over again so that's not really going to give anyone a sense of the performance difference HE got.

Yes I know numbers will only tell me what the performance is in regards to his computer and that is why I requested them.

No one expected him to revert back to his old system for us and noone uttered anything of the sort!?

I personally want to see what he considers "good" and relate it back to some set reference that we can all compare to (Binkster's Standard). I haven't yet installed windows7 so I want to see how his computer performs in the previously sluggish areas. Any measurement of FPS in those areas will at least give me an indication that of what "smooth" is.. and if I can relate to his view then I can reasonably assume what not smooth is. Sure that is a crude analysis but it's an analysis none the less.

And anyway, we might find someone on http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=73610 who has a similar set up and compare results that way. And if say the operating system is the only differring feature, then we can inform that person of these results. (I am not saying it will fix theirs but it's nice to give someone else a heads up)

  11. Good for you mcallon..

But yeah Jackdaniels is correct, benchmarks would be nice. Fraps used in Razor two in the cities or in the mission before that one. And the Arma2 mark..

Do a few tests with 100%Fillrate, 1680x1050 res.. All settings on normal. but Postprocessing on low. (this is a standard test many have been doing for the sake of comparison)

And then do a few tests with your normal settings.

  12. HI there,

I just bought my new 295, just for this game.. then finding out it doesnt use SLI..well, for a new release i would have expected it tbh...New technology and all that...

Also when i had 1 295 i was running xp 64.. NOT 1 CRASH in 2 weeks of playin...

Then when i bought second 295, had to upgrade to Vista 64 and now, crashes all the time...

Maybe a waste of cash.. i might just take back Vista and 295 number 2 and go back to good old xp64... i'm far too impatient to wait for some patch, that might or might not help my issues...

It does use SLI and Multicarding (but not very well).. from what I have read on this forum, adding (-winxp) to the startup parameters enables multicarding (what a GTX295 does). If you are also doing SLI.. try downloading the EVGA Sli Enhancement patch (easiest method) or work your way through some of the nHancer guides that people have posted on these threads (harder but more control).

And yeah Binkster made a thread where everyone posted their Arma2 Marks, and it was found that people who ran ARma 2 on windows XP had the better results (with respect to others with similar specs, but different operating systems).

  13. Post your full system specs.

And at what settings you run the game with.

Also, try downloading Fraps, and taking and uploading your screenshots onto the forum so people know what they are looking at.

Also have a squiz through the stickied threads, there might be a solution there.

  14. YEAH the world is full of liers! Something has changed! Consumers become less a concern. All they care is MONEY! The place I 'm staying right now is a residential college. Even so, the principle cares more about money than what we eat. I was even forced to move into a double room ( two people stay in a bigger room rather than a single room (more privacy)) with an unknown person when I paid full price for a single room ( double room is $30 cheaper per week). I didn't get refund. How can a principle of a college become a money sucking person who sucks money from STUDENTS? They will die for goodness!

Where the F*** did that come from!?@!!@#!@?:turn:

:deal: Remember this is a trouble shooting forum.

  15. Overwhelming:

Is this what you are talking about in Razor two.. go to this thread and look for my first post on the first page.

    http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=77877

One thing I forgot to meantion is that, this problem at higher settings in that camp area in razor two, occurs usually after I look directly at the soldiers there.

There aren't any fixes for that apart from turning terrain detail (or was it object detail?) to normal.

And yes all my problems happend in the mission just before razor two.. and then especially in razor two.

  16. Hey, probably not the news you want but that "fluctuating FPS" in built up areas is a Vista/Win7 thing. I can replicate it perfectly, it's related to inexplicable CPU spikes.

The only solution for me was to install it under XP64. I've never seen it once under XP64.

    Eth

Yeah you are right I am sure, since a lot of the XP users are getting better results.

    Thanks for your reply
