AUDIO! Make it right this time!

what a load of bollocks. the number of channels is inconsequential. even though Sound is perceived as a homogeneous event, you don't hear "128" or whatever number of sounds, you hear your environment as a stream of information, which through selective and very sophisticated mechanisms select only the ones you want to hear. ie they could be perceived as a threat. Its call auditory stream analysis. and this is where sound design is important, because you actually don't need to reconstruct the entire aural environment. Sound locatisation and distance perception becomes important then. eb

    Advanced Combat Radio Environment

i agree. i don't use the mod manager ingame at all. much prefer handling mods using the apps designed by the community and they accommodate any number of user profiles

    ArmA 3 on Steamworks?

whoa! there you go, i didn't even know that. even mention the word steam or anything of a gaseous nature and i'm suspicious of it... like Gas Powered, or valve. its all about burning more dirty coal.

PLEASE enable us to command a chopper to LAND!

yeah, but ai either lands on either one of the following: 1. a tree 2. a building 3. flatground.. 500m away and is surrounded by opfor 4. a tree, then a building and finally puts down a damaged chopper only to be surrounded by opfor, just so you can be extracted to safety.

    ArmA 3 on Steamworks?

well that would be a sad day for me if Arma went over to steam. because no, i would not purchase it. my opinions about steam are for me and i don't wish to express them in this forum based on the implication of "uninformed, technical dunce or proliferating lies". which doesn't help if your after constructive discussions.

Steamworks, add it in or not?

there's a nice feeling going to a shop, perusing the titles and imagining the hours of enjoyment you may yet get to experience if and when you decide to own it. there's a nice feeling, as on your way home you get to open it and read through the manual and the glossy sale brochures that don't interest you but you read them anyway. there's a nice feeling once you get home, installing it and knowing everything contained in that bundle is everything you need to play it. No virtual middleman saying, hey guess what, you don't get to own this experience yet buddy. So tell me, why does it need to be more complicated than that?

    ArmA 3 on Steamworks?

thats awesome. there is no substitute for awesomeness. look how awesome i am. I'm pumping my awesome chest. awesome.... @ BigDawgKS "Like I said before, the vast majority of anti-steam people here are always unable to come up with any valid reasons for objection. " I've got one. Its just doesn't suite me. It's as simple as that and I couldn't care less if steam was the best piece of middleware out there.

    Interface.

as much as i don't like things popping up in my view everytime i need to select something, i do think the interface needs a revamp from the current system. although i have absolutely no clue what could be better implemented.

Realistic Wounds and treatment for ARMA 3

Ha. ok without placing my arm around your shoulder and saying "there there, even though i wasn't negative or positive, lets just leave it in the beige box mate." indeed the level of knowledge require to effectively treat battlefield wounds could never really be matched within the scope of a virtual environment unless there was a feedback system that truthful to the full scope of medical treatment and patient responses. I personally don't see the role of having such a system in place, because the feedback system cannot be relied apon to give the administrator of dressings, drugs and other substances an adequate way of engaging with the type of wound he is attempting to treat and at the same time monitor if what he is doing is even appropriate for the task at hand. therefore a generalized system is adequate. eb

    About Customizable Soldier Load

get loaded up. like a pack donkey no doubt. but i do like the idea of being able to change out of hot pink hotpants into canary yellow budgie smugglers and run around the battlefield like a nancy.

soldier loadout or weapon loadout? i reckon soldier loadout shouldn't be construed to mean weapon loadout

AUDIO! Make it right this time!

sure... and if you happened to miss my first post, i was talking about immersion. And anyway much of what is being said in terms of "effects" is being adopted in the wrong way to describe temporal qualities of sound (ie. pitch, duration, timbre etc..) NOT spatial (reverberation, echoes, immersion etc..) eb

AUDIO! Make it right this time!

i think your confusing the situation. mastering music within the 3d sense is only useful when the listeners position within the soundfield remains centralised and static. Realtime simulations of physical spaces is easily performed through convolution techniques using impulse responses obtained from rooms. if this occurs as a realtime calculation using hrtfs is an entirey different conversation, but it would get you closer to the sensation of "immersion" eb

AUDIO! Make it right this time!

i agree that sound plays an important role in the sense of immerson. but what you happen to be refering to in a musical context does not entirely translate. As a sound engineer what you need to take into account are our subjective preferences for sound in space and applying simple musical qualities to sound does NOT on its own impose a sense of immersion. If you fail to acknowledge spatial hearing as an important function of our ability to sense space then your argument of immersion is completely baseless. Its not as simple as applying musical qualities to sound. i think you should read up on the basic theories of auditory awareness and spatial hearing. An area which has been in the musical realm since the 1940s'. eb

    Ragdolls = In .... Realistic wounds ???

as it stands i believe Bis, by not using "gore" and "dismemberment" as a quirky marketing strategy to keep you desperate lot interested in a game here, have given milsim a degree of sophistication, obviously something you have no capacity to appreciate. and for the comment "If there was dismemberment, it ... would make a shootout last either longer or shorter" what a load of fucking bollocks. only pussies hide.
