    TrackIR 5 ArmA2 Thread!

I bought mine from PC Aviator specifically for two reasons; price and USPS shipping option. The price was almost identical to the discount offered thru Dyslexi and Natural Point but they offered USPS shipping. The UPS cross border brokerage fee($60?) is a rip-off of major proportions an many Canadians know and the fee the post office charges is $5.00 and maybe GST. I was surprised to have the parcel fall on my foot when I opened my door:yay:. No fee at all and no picking it up at the postal outlet:D Mine was labeled with the correct price and description (PC hdwe for game) but with a private seller's name. Is that why there was no GST or fees?
  5. Yes Mate. My initial experience was very choppy at 1900X1200 until I used the optimumization tweaks recommended here and dropped res to 1680X1050. I ran three Fraps runs using 'Trial by Fire' ( combo of town and countryside ) and my avg is 32 fps. Highs in the 50's and lows in the single digits. Smokey scenes in Chernogorsk are the real killer, I have to run away LOL. The post you quote was a glitch, my bad, I thought I had a jump in performance but I was mistaken. I'm not unhappy mind you, 30fps in this game plays OK IMO.
  6. I take it back, it was a fleeting example of a phantom boost. I can't explain it. I'm back to low 30's again, very playable mind you.
  7. OK, so I have an OK system, plays Arma2 well at 30-33 FPS (Fraps) in most situations except smokey cities, where it's a jerky frame fest. I have all the settings at the optimum for my rig as per the various posts on this forum. Last night I changed the interface res to normal and set the screen res to 1900X1080. Now I'm in the low 40's FPS-wise. WTF! Initially the higher res and high/ V high settings had me at 26-28 FPS so I dropped it down. Can anyone give a reason for this jump in FPS? System: Q6600 3.0Ghz, P35MoBo, 8800GTX stock (190.38 drivers), 4G DDR-800 RAM, Vista 32. Dell 2408WFP. ARMA: all settings at High or V High, view distance 1600, AA off, V sync off, PhysX off, pre-rendered frames 3, single display, most settings in Nvidia control panel on application controlled or auto. Nvidia scaling.

Can suppress the AI with MG fire?

I had a situation where I was prone at the end of small wall and 200 m to my front I had two enemy running from R to L. I fired a burst with my M240 and lead them a little too much, they dropped prone in a dip in the ground. As they rose I fired again and and again but I could barley see their heads and kept missing. Out of the corner of my eye I saw two more at the extreme end of my RH arc. I shifted to fire at those guys and the first group popped up and returned fire. I shifted back and they dropped prone again. I had to switch from group to group quickly firing short bursts and not being able to concentrate and kill them. This went on for a whole belt of 100 rounds. I reloaded and that gave them the opportunity to return accurate fire. I continued trying to suppress them but the shift from one side to the other was too great and they got me. I saw on the death screen I killed two of the four. It was a great little fire fight and I was impressed at the AI's tactics. I hope the next patch leaves the AI alone and it doesn't get 'dumbed down' in respone to the 'AI is too tough' crowd.

  11. I am complete n00b at multiplayer and I killed a teammate last night and I still feel bad about it. I spawned behind a LAV, moved out uphill into the sun thru some trees and there was a figure in the glare right in front of me approaching. I panicked :eek:and shot him. I apologized twice, but there were WTF:mad: msgs. The space bar thing I'll remember now.:o

    Nvidia 190.38 Beta Drivers?

Gunslinger what FPS are you getting mate? I too have a Q6600 (3.0Ghz) one 8800GTX stock Vista 32 4Gb DDR2 800. 190.38 upped my FPS by about 5 (Fraps) so I avg 33-34. I reckon over 30 is great for ArmaII.
  14. 190.38 Drivers upped my FPS to 40 :D I average 33-34 now which is pretty good I reckon. 8800GTX stock, Q6600 3.0Ghz, Vista 32
  15. Bug free game? I am an infrequent PC gamer. I built my PC a couple of years ago and spent what I thought it would take to play most PC titles then available, Crysis included. I got the 'look' from the clerk at the game store when I laid it on the counter "Are you sure you run this, there's no refunds you know?" I told him I was pretty sure I could, and the guy behind me asked me what specs I had for my PC "Q6600 Overclocked, 8800GTX, 4G OCZ Ram, blah, blah, blah...." Well it was OK then and I went home and played it. I crowed to all my pals "Hey I'm playing Crysis dude!" Yeah, at dismal framerates with lag etc etc. What did I know I never played a game like this before, hell hardly any games before. A quick perusal of the forums opened my eyes. Bugs, Mods, custom configs and the lists go on and on. A lot of smart cats were there offering advise, mods and helping others out. Advise I used to get the game running smoothly and enjoyably. I quickly found out the state of PC games today and came to the conclusion that it is accepted that there will be a period from the release of a title through the first several months of public use when the game is patched and modded repeatedly until it reaches a state that most PCs can run it. It is also common for a game to be roundly vilified and praised respectively in the first weeks of release until the bugs are patched, the game is optimized and the modders have had a chance to work their magic. Given these um...'Laws' of PC gaming, I am still surprised at the quitters and whiners. Titles like ArmA2 don't come along every year, there are a lot of smart cats working hard to surprise us and give us the game we and they want.

New players need a detailed manual!

In the one ARMA 2 single mission to capture the village I have a LD, I can see it in my gear loadout, but when it comes time to acually use it I can't access it. "F" doesnt select it, I have tried many, many keys and nothing. If there was a manual entry that spelled it out then I'd be good to go. I have not seen a reference to it anywhere... yet. Still looking....
  20. MASTERFRAGG I can confirm the core use that you mentioned. My Q6600 uses about 40% as well. I was happy to see that but there is more headroom there. Let's hope that the optimization happens soon. Lots of new info out these past couple of days, eh? Welcome to the BIS testing corps:mad:
  21. If this is the case that ARMA2 is CPU dependent then there should be spec that would give better performance, no? It seems that the Core i7 guys are in the same boat as the rest of us. What's it gonna take component wise to whip this game?

New players need a detailed manual!

I'll echo others here in that the level of complexity in ARMA2 makes a detailed manual necessary. I have the STEAM manual, the Biki ARMA manual and others and I'm still searching for how to do things. I know manuals are a thing of the past these days but ARMA's interface is not intuitive, it seems to me anyway, and the published list of controls do not spell out all you can do. For instance can anyone show me a Manual or Wiki reference to the Laser Designator and how to use it?
  23. SgtMjr

How do YOU play ARMA2 ?

    Badly:D
  24. The pre-rendered frames option is in the Nvidia control panel in "Manage 3D Settings". "Select Program Settings" and with the ARMA.exe selected there are menu options to change various settings including pre-rendered frames, V-sync, AA ,AF etc etc. Many posters have confirmed better FPS with High Object Detail, YMMV.
