In a lot of cases, switching to Windows XP (or starting Arma 2 with -winxp) has fixed it, but switching from Vista to 7 may not help since it's the same directx 10 core behind each build. (I say "may not" because it depends if it's direct x or something else that's causing the problem)On a side note to that, the game runs a lot better under Windows XP, but then again, what doesn't (being that windows xp runs DX 9, so it looks worse)
I'd like to know the settings everyone is running on (most important being the resolution)
If you're running a 2.4GHz CPU and an 8800GT then you should expect about 20-26 fps average at 1280x1024, if you're running a higher resolution then expect lower (18-22 maybe) This being because the CPU and 8800gt are older and have trouble keeping up now days (mainly the speed of the CPU)
Here's a good link of some results while running under 1280x1024 that may help
http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,687620/ArmA-2-tested-Benchmarks-with-18-CPUs/Practice/
I should mention that I've had some complaints saying that an 8800gt and q6600 (it's a common setup) should be able to run the game fine, but keep in mind that they are both older examples of hardware and I'd be very surprised if they didn't struggle with Arma 2.
My spec. is:
HIS 3870 X2 1GB
Intel Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 4GB RAM
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB hard drive
Vista 64-bit
Game resolution is 1152x864.
Texture detail and video memory can only be set to their lowest setting otherwise extremely slow, blurred motion occurs when moving the mouse to look around or moving. All the rest of my settings are at their highest and hardly affect the game performance. It's just when turning up the texture and video memory options. Could the Catalyst 9.6 driver also be the cause?
I have a Windows Experience Index base score of 5.9 for all components except RAM memory operations being at 5.7.

I wanted to bump and update my findings in this mission because I finally finished it.I restarted the mission from the start. Here is my steps exactly.
1) I took Novy Sobor. (my mission starts from the east of the objectives.)
2) Little John tells me there are men who want to speak to me in the villiage.
3) A cut scene showing Father Fyodor speaking with villiagers and NAPA.
<<This script did not fire on my first playthrough>>
<<If you dont see this cutscene restart mission because it wont progress>>
4) Straight from the cutscene in step 3 it goes into a cutscene of the wounded men near the fence that tell you about Lopatev.
<<This scene did fire first playthrough>>
5) I take Novy Stabor.
6) A car with civilians drives to my HQ. Approach them and recieve the Warlord side mission.
<<Task Added>>
7) I head to Vishnoya to do the Warlord side mission. Immediatly after talking to the man in town the Warlords men attack from the south.
<<In my first playthrough they never attacked I had to move south to their camp to kill them. But I did recieve credit both times.>>
<<Task Complete>>
8) I move back north and talk to the crazy hunter hiding in the woods. I give him my radio frequency and move on.
<< I have no idea what his role is or if it is just there for laughs>>
9) I take the third town.
10) I recive a radio message from an unidentified man telling me to meet him at HQ.
<< I did not recieve this message the first playthrough>>
11) The man at HQ tells me to kill Prizak at his sawmill.
<< Again I never got this mission on first playthrough.>>
<<Task Added>>
12) I go up to his mill and conversation starts with prizak. After he finishes talking I shoot him.
<<Task Complete>>
<<Razor team comments on this choice of action>>
13) I take the last town.
14)Cutscene with CDF and Napa agree to work together.
<<This cutscene did not fire on my first playthrough.>>
15)Mission Ends.
<<Mission did not end first playthrough. I just ran around forever till I gave up.>>
If any of the above cutscenes or scripts do not fire its best to just restart the mission.
It is strange...:j: I didn't get the Father Fyodor cut scene near the beginning and that may be why the rest of the level didn't play out properly nor could it be completed. Was it because I didn't move to the HQ rendezvous point for the scene to trigger? This was my first try and I didn't receive the unidentified man radio message afterwards either. The AI seemed to be acting strange as well.
I restarted, saw Father Fyodor scene and also got the unidentified man radio message. The 'retake region' gets unchecked again but level still finishes, lol

Yup, there's a memory leak that people are experiencing.Lower the video memory setting in video options which will slow it from occuring so often, then when it starts slowing down, hold shift then hit the keypad minus key (-) then blind type "flush" without the quotes (pretty sure it wad flush, someone correct me if I'm wrong)
that should clear the memory cache an improve performance for a while. It's a temporary solution but something til a patch is released.
Does that explain why I need to set texture details and video memory to their lowest settings otherwise I experience incredibly slow performance? Sorry, I'm not very technical.

Hi Guys,My spec. is:
- an ATI X3870 X2 1GB
- Intel Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
- Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 4GB RAM
- Vista 64-bit
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB hard drive
I have to set the texture detail and video memory to low. Otherwise turning around with the mouse or when trying to zoom in and aim is incredibly slow. I can't even set these options to Normal as it would still be slow.
All the rest of the options are set to their max. It's just the texture detail and video memory options that need to be set at their lowest to be playable.
I'm playing the game on the same partition that includes my bootable OS installed on it.
My visibility was set at 1600 which was the default when I first started the game. I've tried setting visibility down to the lowest (500) and then texture detail and video memory to Normal, the gameplay still slows to a crawl.
Game resolution is 1152x864.
Just can't understand why the extreme slow down if I up those 2 options.
Might it be:
- Graphics driver even though using latest (official Catalyst 9.6 from AMD site). My card is a HIS brand.
- Framerate improves if game installed on a separate partition/HD
- The HD cable as it is longer than really needs to be
- Bottleneck from the motherboard or SATA slot
- Vista x64 is the culprit
Maybe I should try it on XP x64?
Thanks for any suggestions
Well guys, I've installed the game onto my other XP x64 hard drive and with my system, hardly any difference in performance.
I can set the texture detail and video memory options to normal and the gameplay is a bit faster than in Vista but still not at a playable rate. I found the graphics look much better in vista, even with low texture detail. Maybe because of DX 10?
So is it my hardware which I think is unlikely or the game has not been optimised? Though my HD and graphics card fan does sound to be working quite hard when playing.

I've been playing PC games for over ten years and even have Beta tested quite a few games. Plus betatested for MS in Seattle for two years and I have never seen a game published while it was not even close to go Gold... Bohemia and all, this is Pathetic! (next game allow me to beta test on one of my top-of-the-line PC's PLEASE!)Stucked in the first mission and have changed the sequence 3 times after re-starting mission... To no end. No new task, killed everyone, etc!!! So endmission it is!!!
This totally blew it for me as the whole effect of the game is gone!!!
Should call AMEX or Valve and cancel the purchase!
Oh well... Could have been a great game!!! Ala HL1-2, CoD4...
*** Plus where is the console command?*** No ~, nothing on options>control, etc!!!
To bring up the console, hold down the left 'Shift' key and press 'Numpad Minus' key then type ENDMISSION. No console window appears as one would normally expect, which is a usability issue but type in endmission and it will work. There is no indication on how to bring up the console either as far as I'm aware so I looked online about it.
On the subject of testing I used to develop web apps and did a lot of testing on them for a development agency. It also needed to be done whenever their was a slight code change. Managers would be yelling down our necks if a customer discovered a bug in our apps. QA had to be of the highest standard possible and a requirement to always try and exceed the current level. Whenever customers contacted I hoped it was just a user error that needed education and not an error in our software, lol.

Well, I've lost interest on the first campaign mission bug or problem after moving on with console 'endmission'.
I've finished Harvest Red and now on to the next, Razor Two which seems to be even more exciting than the last. The mission scenario feels very realistic and believable.
The Harvest Red cutscenes made the game look like a movie. I'm loving every minute of the game so far and for me way more enjoyable than Call of Duty 4.
If only quality assurance was rigorous in rooting out major game stopping bugs and I didn't have the graphics problem then for me this game would be at the top of my list of favs.

If you have view distance set to 10km, try setting it down to ~4km and turning your texture detail back up.My visibility was set at 1600 which was left as that (default) when I first started the game.
I've tried setting visibility down to the lowest (500) and texture detail and video memory to Normal, the gameplay slows to a crawl.
Thanks for your helpful suggestion.

What comes up in your guys tasks list ? I couldve sworn i did something else after blowing up the stuff. I just cant remember what ^^No other new tasks appear for me. Last task of destroying the moving tank is checked off and I'm only left with designate targets as the active task.

Interesting!Me having the same config (X3870 X2, Q6600, 4GB RAM, WD-Raptor HDD) and half of the settings on Hi or Normal), with 75% 'viewdistance' just doing fine... Not that fluid like COD, but playable indeed. Oh, I'm runing it on XP Prof X64! Just for the record! ;)
All the rest of the options are set to their max. It's just the texture detail and video memory options that need to be set at their lowest for a playable framerate.
I'm using a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB HD with the game and bootable OS together on it.
Just can't understand why the extreme slowdown if I up those 2 options.

Maybe I should try it on XP x64, :j:
Sorry to go slightly off-topic guys. Probably start a new thread on this issue.

Well, since another poster mentioned that destroying the last moving tank would of finished the level if it had worked, I resorted to typing endmission in the console.
I've now made it to the 'Harvest Red' mission with no other bugs encountered yet.
I must say that so far the campaign is amazing. It feels so realistic, given that it is a simulation after all and because of the graphics but it also seems to be like a bit of a role-playing adventure (vast roaming environment with player choices carried by believable scenarios and an effective storyline). I find this game more fun than Call of duty 4 gameplay-wise. More campaign levels like the existing ones in future and I would be satisfied.
I still haven't forgot about that bug on the first level I found to be a major killer on user experience though. That is still unacceptable.
Another issue I don't understand is having an ATI X3870 X2 1GB, Intel Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 4GB RAM and Vista 64-bit I have to set the texture detail and video memory to low. Otherwise gameplay is incredibly slow. I can't even set these options to Normal as the game would still be slow.

Just so BIS has a rough idea of how many could be affected I have the same problem too. Latest patch already applied (1.02.58134) before I even started playing the game for the first time.
Followed Battlemage instructions exactly in sequence, destroying house, hidden tank then moving tank. Those 3 tasks were checked as completed but designate targets task remained active. Game just continued on with no other event happening nor ending.
This is causing much frustration to me as a user and customer.

loool. Yeah, you can come to mine and see for yourself as well, loool. Sorry but I found it really amusing. What systems are you guys playing the game on cos I sure want one of them, lol
You guys just lookin through the code or playing through the game also, to find bugs? Don't mean to insult the intelligence of anyone but only examining code won't reveal all programming logic flaws, right?
I'm on 'Dogs of War' mission now and can't progress any further. Conversation with commander stalls.
