If you're using "Fraps" to measure FPS, it could be the source of all evil. I've tried this little program and it gives "ArmA 2" some heavy fps spikes on my PC, also the overall FPS count seems to be lower when I run "Fraps" (which means "ArmA 2" runs smoother without "Fraps"). *The Benchmark Scenario is a bit vague, because all of what happens in there is somekind of random. Just have a look at all the units moving around when you're running the benchmark. It's always different. However it should still give you a feeling about how well "ArmA 2" will run on your System, due to the fact that the Benchmark is a average reproduction of a standard mission (its not built too complex nor too basic). 30-35 FPS should be enough to play "ArmA 2", at least that's what I've got in the Demo and playing the full Version now, I haven't got any hard times performance wise.

Indeed, there haven't been any bayonets in the original OPF!

Can i just download and install 1.3 or do i have to go through all the patches first?
Jimmy the Saint replied to WMike20052's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
what patch have you installed and do you have the steam version? - stickies might help you aswell ;) -
I agree, the RTS elements remove the tension filled encounters of the old OPF infantry simulator gameplay "where you've "just" been one part of a relatively small group of units) to a certain degree. I mean while playing the RTS missions, it just doesn't feel like maneuvering Up Close and Personal through the battlefield and on top of that, RTS mission seem to be "clumsy". I also wish there would be more (private) servers with the classical "Player vs. Enemy A.I. COOP" Missions.

Although it might sound like a cliche: the newest hardware isn't always the best hardware to get. Because it takes time (sometimes even too much time) until the proper software will be released and supported. One of the best examples is still the Philips CD-I console. :icon_ohmygod:

Maybe, maybe not - read the stickes! E6750 @ 2,66Ghz 2GB RAM ATI HD3850 here - runs good at 1440x1080. sceneComplexity=2150000 viewDistance=4750 anisoFilter=3 TexQuality=1 TexMemory=1 shadingQuality=7 shadowQuality=3

I agree, it's kind of hard to pick out the worthy things yet. I don't really know how much or if the community actually enjoys user made missions and on the servers you always see the same "boring" missions running. Maybe some patience and more help from the community will change that. :bounce3:

You have a good point and it's actually something I've been wondering too. The missions in OPF were broken down into many parts/pieces and I didn’t see any problems with that. But maybe the developers wanted to go "over the top" this time and wanted to show off what the ArmA 2 engine is capable of and how manifold missions can be put altogether into one complex campaign with different progresses.

Yes, CPU speed is important. But not, if they're quad or dual core CPUs.
-
CPU speed (doesn't matter if dual or quad core), GPU performance and Graphic Memory are important (ArmA 2 is very intensive here). ArmA 2 doesn't use more then 2GB RAM (it's a 32bit application). If you've been happy with the performance of the game while playing the demo, I can say from my experience, that the full game doesn't need more system resources. Just when it comes to heavily crowded areas like huge villages or cities the fps will drop instantly. How much Memory does your Graphic Card have? 512MB should be enough I guess.

Aiming difficulties with ironsights and aimpoints
Jimmy the Saint replied to 50.cal's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
This could also be the reason why aiming in 3rd person is so much easier then through the weapon sights, although I'd enjoy to use the sights if they work properly. -
I finally finnished but I thought...

I'm sorry, you're right. It must be a bug then. Can you still revert your campaign to an earlier savegame and try to finish the last mission again?* If not you can still unlock the whole armoury by "cheating". *I haven't finished the campaign yet, so I don't know. -
Depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a fast paced action game to get involved within a few minutes, you probably shouldn't. If you're patient and seek a infantry simulator which feels pretty realistic because of its dynamic weather, daytime and battlefield (with some rudimentary elements of vehicle simulation), perhaps you should buy the game. But be sure to get some informations around the internet before you make your decision. However the game might have some flaws of its vast complexity, you might also want to know that BIS actually cares about the game and the community. :)

Uhmm, as far as I know you can only unlock all the objects in the armoury by collecting points in challenges. -
Bayonets! ... NO!

Aiming difficulties with ironsights and aimpoints
Jimmy the Saint replied to 50.cal's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
And I wondered why I'm so bad at aiming most of the time although I was sure to hit the target.:p -
Oh yeah guys, one of us has to kick that door in and the others run straight into that building punching their faces. The stupid enemy won't expect us doing that. It's a so called moment of surprise! :cc: Please, leave such ideas to action games.

Leave both out!

where i can buy/get nvgoggles??
Jimmy the Saint replied to Lightningstrike's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Strange enough that a full assault mission has missing equipment, at least for the leading personnel. -
I have a different question related to Dogs of War. Is it possible to buy other equipment then weapons? One serious example: since the mission is starting almost before the sunset and team Razor hasn't been equipped with binoculars or nvgoggles, how am I supposed to see in the darkness?

I haven't tried any mods yet (this included), but I wonder by looking at the pictures if the landing gear works?

Default graphic settings are mainly influenced by the CPU. The sliders in this menu can be put up to about 2/3 of their total amount when using a middle of the range CPU. I have a Intel Core 2Duo E6700 @ 2,66Ghz with 2GB ram and the game runs at 25 to 30fps just fine. However, advanced graphic settings are mostly influenced by the graphic card memory size and GPU performance. Perhaps you won't get much of an advantage from a quad core CPU yet (talking of Arma 2 here), even though it's mentioned in the recommended system list. I believe ArmA 2 is just CPU speed hungry.
