  1. Might not be AAS or BE related. You might have seen the "ammo crate freeze/bug" and then timeout -> kick, which has been fixed a few OA betas ago.
  2. Yes. Buy a faster GPU (and/or CPU) - your 260 is not cutting it to deliver decent minimum frame rates if you want to keep your high settings. :)
  3. Any form of public discussion about hackers (including case reports, venting, calling names) and the public discussion of countermeasures is counterproductive, as this is a primary goal for hackers in their unique psychology - getting attention and pissing off people. They live off these posts and collect them as trophy. And announcing / discussing countermeasures just triggers their destructive instinct in this arms race. This should happen behind closed doors. Maybe we can organize some closed forum for server admins and BIS/BE devs on a invitation only basis ?
  4. We should stop discussing this here or in any other public forum. Any attention just feeds those guys.

Buying a new PC for ArmA II

The $1300 Alienware does not deliver the goods in terms of ArmA 2 performance. SLI/XFire with 2 low end GPUs is far worse than one proper GPU. Here's what I would suggest as a well rounded Alienware system for gaming (comes at $1699): PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ i5 750 Quad Core 2.66GHz (8MB Cache) OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English VIDEO CARD ATI Radeon™ HD 5870, 1GB GDDR5 MEMORY 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 XMP HARD DRIVE 1TB - SATA-II, 3Gb/s, 7,200RPM, 32MB Cache HDD OPTICAL DRIVE 24X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability edit SOUND CARD Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio MONITOR No Monitor KEYBOARD No Keyboard MOUSE No Mouse The only issue is: You can get a better spec'd system for 1/3 less. And reallly, if you don't plan to overclock (which you should eventually look at), assembly is really not much more than plugging the right cable into the right jack and tightening some screws. And there's always people to help on this and other forums. Here's a budget system that will perform very well with ArmA or other games (better than the $1699 Alienware), all for $1150 (all from newegg): MSI P55-CD53 ATX Intel Motherboard $109.99 Intel Core i5-760 2.8GHz Quad-Core $209.99 Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit $99.99 LG 22X DVD Burner - Model GH22NS40 $17.99 Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s $89.99 CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W Power Supply $89.99 XFX Radeon HD 5870 HD-587X-ZNFV Video Card $379.99 OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) XMP-Ready Rev.2 Desktop Memory $99.99 LIAN LI Lancool PC-K58 Black Computer Case $49.99 Grand Total: $1,147.91

Buying a new PC for ArmA II

Your GPU is 2 generations (generations, not models) behind...as with any game, a powerful CPU does not help if you have a GPU bottleneck.

Buying a new PC for ArmA II

Hey Hebrew Hammer, what is your budget? Without a number, no one can give you any real advice. Alienware & co is a NO NO especially if you are on a budget and seek the best performance for the buck. Once we know what you are willing to spend, we can point you to the right parts, assembly is easy even with 2 left hands.

    Admins: PLEASE ALLOW @ACEX_SM!!!!

Hey Mandrake, don't get me wrong, to a degree you have a legit request here, but you seem to miss a few points: Why would any admin allow the ACEX_SM soundmod if not requested specifically by their community? Just FYI, every additional mod means work for the admin, because he has to track and install updates and at the end provide service for it in case something causes errors on the client or server side. How do I know that mod X works well with mod Y on my server? Right, by testing. Work. Thats why many admins keep the number of allowed add-ons to a neccessary minimum, based upon actual player's preferences. It is one thing to get in contact with the admin of the server(s) you play on and ask them if they can allow it, and I am sure you will have much more success compared to broadcasting it on this forum and expect anyone to follow. And to be honest, calling admins arogant and obnoxious for having valid reasons not to allow every single one of the 1000's of mods out there is not really helpful. qwertz
  9. There are few here in the US (another one would be the C5 server) - if you want to try a European one, check the BCA server: http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/178.63.61.132:2302/ Problem, is, there are roughly 4x more players in the EU vs US, and PvP requires a minimum amount of people being connected to get the server going...
  10. http://www.jestservers.com/ Awesome performance and service. They are very well suited for ArmA. ACE, Betas, custom command lines and configs, all no problem and accessible via TCAdmin panel. Kevin (who runs the place) has always been extremely helpful and for some reason doesn't need sleep at all :-)

Age of empire 3 is hardly a modern game. You have 64MB of VRAM. The published minimum requirements for OA is "(...) 256 MB VRAM". http://www.systemrequirements.in/system-requirements-for-pc-game-arma-ii-operation-arrowhead.html You will have the same problem with any of the later versions of CoD btw. Your GFX delivers between 200-300 P in 3dMark Vantage. The fastest dedicated notebook chips deliver around 14.000 P. Desktops in SLI/X-Fire deliver more than 35.000 P. Thats more than 100x your GFX performance. Go figure. Check here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Graphics-Media-Accelerator-HD.23065.0.html In summary, you will not really be able to play any modern 3d based game with that laptop, just some old ones.
  13. All done already mate, just check it out on www.armacalypse.com. We are an open PvP community and have quite mature players, and lots of fun. Usually people play in the evenings (from ~10pm eastern time) until late night. Between 15 and 40 people currently, depending on the day. Don't forget to dust off your mic, we are using VON.
  14. 100% agreed, I have exactly the same thoughts (but at the end we still keep going, its just too addictive of a game)
  15. This problem has cut our server population by 50%. Very few non-regulars join, seems like a lot of people use the filter function and don't even see the server or think that red=non playable. Urgent problem for us - any any other public server I can only guess.

    Good PvP Servers?

We are playing PvP exclusively (AAS). Game server is populated every evening (US time) with 20+ ppl. Currently playing OA only. Check it out !
  17. +1 on Jestservers. Awesome service, best performance.
  18. I think I'm wondering why they are doing it then. Have in mind 11pm EST is 8pm PST, thats when most people get to their PC after coming home from work on the West Coast. Australia seems to be the only region w/o at least one halfway popular PvP community/server...wonder why this is.  qwertz

Yep you are correct - 2pm EST

    Arma 2 event

Yeah, I am just guessing here based upon this: http://tournament.realitymod.com/showthread.php?p=138716

    Arma 2 event

Based upon Google, PRT ("Project Reality Time") equals GMT. So, it is in fact 6pm GMT. Or 2pm QPT (Quertz's Personal Time), which is equivalent to 2pm EST :D . qwertz

    This really gets to me?!

    1) Have fun playing PvP (hint: thats the topic) with 1 or 2 friends. 2) Why are you choosing to play on servers with kiddy shit going on. Choose one without kiddy shit. 3) Have you ever played on a well administered PvP server ? qwertz

    This really gets to me?!

Strange - I am playing this in my spare time. I must do something wrong. Maybe its the one-click AAS installer with no need to chase mod updates on a daily basis? Or the server I play on that does not rely on pre-arranged matches so I can just hop on after work? Wondering... qwertz

    multiplayer pvp?

Check my sig. Every evening US time. In Europe, check for Arma2.ru PvP AAS or BCA or others. And of course there is Warfare BE which is arguably a "non-pure" PvP mode because in many cases you will play with/against a mix of AI and real humans. Also check the C5 servers which offer a mix of popular PvP game modes. Other than that, there are some other PvP/TvT mode servers out there on an infrequent basis. You can filter the game browser for "HOLD" game modes to check for PvP in general. If you are looking for a squad, check here: http://forums.bistudio.com/forumdisplay.php?f=90. Also, CharlieFoxtrott, ATOW and AGW (tournaments) come to mind. qwertz
