  1. Most of which are weak units compared to Mammoth or Sonic Tanks and are dispatched easily enough with a good defense.

You can't build mammoth tanks in Tiberian Sun - The Mammoth Mark 2 has a build limit of 1. Disruptor is the name of the "Sonic Tanks".

Well you could spam those nasty chinese overlord Tanks in C&C 1, a group of them and you can tankrush everything

You mean Generals 1 not C&C1. There were no Chinese on the original Command & Conquer (It was a GDI vs Nod game).

  2. Tiberium SUn was great, but yes NOD Artillery was waaay overpowered, but I really enjoyed to make huuuge craters with them (a feature that todays games don´t have!)

Tiberium Sun? What game is that? I've only heard of Tiberian Sun. :P

The Nod artillery eventually patched so the only thing left to deform terrain was "super weapons".

You couldn't just spam an enemy with a mass of units

Orca Bomber, Disruptor, Cyborg Reaper, Devil's Tongue, Banshee, Hover MLRS and Titan could all be spammed to win...

Generals 2 looks interesting, hopefully it will be moddable as the original Generals has a ton of awesome mods (Contra, Cold War Crisis, Shockwave, Middle East Crisis)

  3. PC:

    1. Command & Conquer (1995)

    2. Command & Conquer: Red Alert (1996)

    3. StarCraft (1998)

    4. Half Life (1997)

    5. Age of Empires II: The Conquerors (2000)

Fun thing is that I still play these games from time to time. They work 100% in Win7 64-bit, Dune 2 needs DOSBox though :)

    Console:

    1. Oddworld: Abe's Oddysse (1997) (Playstation)

    2. Halo: Combat Evolved (2001) (Xbox)

    3. Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction (2005) (Xbox)

    4. Metal Arms: Glitch in the System (2003) (Xbox)

    5. Super Mario Brothers (1985) (NES)

  4. Well personaly i hate those flying mission, but do you get Eye of the storm when you destroyed those samsites ? i could not manage that and needed to save the pilot in the next map. Those droins do nothing and i did not even see the samsites when it was to late.

But overall i find the expansion a big disappointment and i think the just wanted to get some fast money and let the modders finish the game. Campaign was boring and way to short (still find the ofp1 resistance expansion the best) and the scenarios had no warfare missions so only doing the same thing but shorter.

Like other games it could be great but DEVs and gamedeveleports only see dollar eyes and dont have the skills to make a great game.

Then I'm the opposite of you, I love flying missions and hate warfare. I think OA was a huge surprise, it was much better than I expected it to be.

And if BIS only see dollar signs in front of their eye's they would only release one patch for OA and start on another game...sort of like what Codemasters did with "Operation Exploit-name: More Cash Edition". BIS release patches every week...they let people beta test their patches before the final patch is released.

I can't see how OA is disappointing with: FLIR, IR lasers, UN, US Army, CZ, TA, TM, ULB etc. There is a lot more to Arma than the campaign for example the mission editor which is extremely easy to use.

The editor has been there since Operation Flashpoint, even in 2003 I understood the editor in OFP being only 10 years old with limited understanding of English! This tells alot about the editor in OFP1/Arma...

only doing the same thing but shorter.

Play the Arma 2 campaign and then the OA campaign...the same? I think not...

  5. So many older people here. :O

I'm 16, I first played Operation Flashpoint in 2002, when I was 9 and loved it; I still do together with Dune 2, Command & Conquer 1, StarCraft and Red Alert. :D

I'm happy that Arma stayed the way OFP is, the same can't be said for the C&C series which became just stupid. :(

  6. Half a game? Worthless? I'm sure you like me spent hours and hours of time in the Operation Flashpoint mission editor...and that you had a blast, even OFP had a really nice editor.

I didn't get Arma 1 though, I didn't like the "middle eastern" theme of it, but maybe this is why I was so surprised by Arma 2? Well, I hope BIS will release a new patch soon..the lag can get a bit annoying....

  7. i dont' understand why people go on about how good the ai is. it doesn't act how a real soldier would at all, for example they never move through say a town as a cohesive unit in the way a real squad would do, they like running head on into bullets and generally run around like a bunch of randoms when things get hectic. If the AI was good they would surely all peak round corners trying to shoot you rather than standing in the middle of the road shooting at you ? they would move slickly from cover to cover and it would look realistic rather than how it currently does. When a few of the AI's squad dies they should link up with other soldiers and work together but they don't, they all split up and generally behave very unrealistically.

It all just looks so random and uncoordinated in arma 2.

The game is good fun online in tactical PVP games but i just can't get into any game mode involving enemy ai as their behavior completely ruins any sense of realism.

That doesn't sound like the AI in my game, this sounds more like the OFP AI....when I play I see them running from cover to cover, unless I order them to do otherwise....just put the behavior to danger....

About the OFP AI, I got a little annoyed getting killed by "sniper officers" which saw me though almost anything...this was fixed eventually in a patch tho...this have not happened to be once in Arma 2 :)

  8. Arma 2 has it's flaws but it is an awesome game as long as it works!

What is great about Arma 2:

-Intelligent AI: The AI takes cover behind buildings, cover each others backs (and yours)

    -huge maps

    -animals (lol)

-Dynamic game: a mission never happens the same way.

    -Great mission editor.

    -easy installation of addons

    -many different weapons.

    -many different vehicles.

    -lots of game modes.

    -Operation Flashpoint feel.

    -Helicopters handles very well.

-Landing auto pilot automatically lands your plane on closest air field.

    -Patches are released "often"

    Arma 2's flaws.

-Many computers have problems running it.

-Postprocess effects makes the game confusing.

-Lag (My computer runs it fine at 40 FPS, but sometimes the game clogs up and I get 1 FPS)

-Some planes handles awfully. (like the Joint Strike Fighter)

    -Sound shuttering

    -Many sounds are the same.

-Many weapons have bad sounds (A-10's cannon doesn't sound right...as does many other things)

    -Operation Flashpoint like animations.

-Some weapons doesn't feel right, like the pistols.

-You can blow up tanks with MGs.

-Radio voices sounds odd, even the OFP ones sounded better.

    -Crashes

    -Rendering issues

    -lag

    -lag

    -lag

Arma 2 has many flaws but as always, Bohemia Interactive will fix most if not all of them! We just have to be patient and wait, no game is released bug free and none will ever do, especially games as big as Arma 2.

If people start expecting that huge and open games like Arma 2 should be released "bug free" then they don't have much sense. Even World of Warcraft was bug ridden when it was first released. (like all MMORPG's) I know it is kinda stupid to compare a MMORPG to a......uhmm "FPS-RTS-RPG-Simulator"? Like Arma 2 however the game is huge and open and no one can deny that.

If you don't like waiting for patches I recommend that you go buy a "normal" first/third person shooter like GTA, Call of Duty, Half Life, Mercenaries etc.

    or maybe an RTS?

StarCraft, Command & Conquer, Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander...

Good work BI! Keep those patches coming! I know this game will show it's greatness for everyone soon! I have played it a lot since I first got it and I don't seem to get tired of it despite the bugs...just like what happened when I got Operation Flashpoint! :)

P.S I hope this is the right place to post this. :P
