Follow the link for some tests of the new Radeon card. Looks great for ARMA II! 36.6 FPS Average with Very High settings and decent visibility range (1600)!

As a strictly SP only player, this looks great.
Hopefully there will be even more mini-campaigns created like this!
-
Not to hijack the thread, but Mav, what do you have your -cpucount set to if you don't mind telling me? I have the same cpu as you and I wanna see if I can smoothe out the fps a little more.I set mine to 4. Not sure if this is supposed to be a value, but 4 seems to have made a difference to me. I haven't done any real testing using FRAPS and only played about 30 minutes with 1.04.
-
It fixed my mouse smoothing problem so it's a go for me.
Also, the -cpucount switch for the command line has smoothed out the FPS for me.
I play exclusively SP and would recommend it to you.

Thanks BIS for working on the problems we are describing. As the patches keep coming out I'm having less and less issues and have begun playing again.
The Mouse Smoothing issue, which was one of my major beefs is fixed now and my performance seems to have improved with the -cpucount switch in the command line.
My beefs/recommendations that remain:
1) Multi-GPU support (other than the -winxp switch)
2) AA that smooths the trees
3) Command menu similar to BF2/BF2142/ARMA (something better than the abomination we are using now)
4) Squad AI that doesn't run halfway across the map chasing a target without being told to and then taking an eon to come back.
Thanks for your hard work and keep it up.

I'm shelving the game not just for technical issues but for gameplay issues as well...
It's just too damn frustrating...
And I spend too much time tweaking FSX and playing LOMAC and BS to give this game it's fair share of time.
Get hot BIS, and I'll be back.
Although I'm sure you won't miss me...

You need to enable the TrackIR in the control settings of ARMA 2...
Yep, its that easy.
And mine works without using compatibility mode and just run as administrator ticked on.

Speaking from experience?
It's like being a Submarine ET and being called a Nuke... also causes 'unpleasantness'

I agree with the above poster that state you should have added a "I don't experience Mouse Lag"
The main reason being I don't experience mouse lag!
The fix that has worked for me;
- Force V-Sync OFF in ATi Tray Tools/nHancer
- Increase Mouse DPI to Max (2000 DPI on my Copperhead)
- Decrease Mouse Sensitivity In-Game to meet needs.
Hope this helps anyone who hasn't tried it!

Those Halos are a form of Target Marking used in the Recruit difficulty level or if you manually turn them on in the custom difficulty settings. Play on Regular or turn them off manually to rid yourself of them.
It's that simple!

Where were you when Wing Commander blew us all away?
Trying to blow away Kilrathi and defend the Tiger's Claw! Hell Yeah!
In regards to this thread I knew what I was getting into. This thread wasn't created so people could argue, I was just presenting a viewpoint on the state of the ARMA 2 Community when it comes to playing the game...
To those who cannot achieve good FPS I hope that someday you will be able to enjoy the game like those few of us who do now.

In my experiences D2D isn't much better, they use DRM along with activation codes. So if you reinstall your OS or lose your install, you have to contact support in order to get a new activation code. This has taken several days for me in the past, and you are not legally allowed to sell a game purchased from D2D.I have had to contact D2D support (with a completely different SUPPORT account of course because they can't seem to use one account for the same thing) about activating SupCom three times and Silent Hunter 4 Uboat Missions expansion twice.
I'm so sick of it that I will never buy ANYTHING from D2D again! I do not recommend it, their DRM SUCKS!
You might as well go out and buy Rise of Flight (check out the diminishing sales DRM that the developer used for that game!).

Mavrocket - Hold on... You come to a trouble shooting forum to tell people to give it a rest? Good joke that one... You were joking right? After all, this game isn't Flight Simulator X. Infact your comparisons couldn’t be further apart. Take Flight Sim x. Where all you have got to worry about is sitting with a joystick in hand for hours on end while you fly the world. Or should I say press the auto pilot button and just sit there staring at your monitor for hours doing nothing. It’s no wonder that Fps don’t really matter in a game like Flight simulator x. I found 25 fps in that game enough for what there is to do in the game. Now take Arma 2, drop yourself in the middle of a battle and remind me that Fps doesn’t count in a game like this. Anybody who knows anything about gamming knows. That such a game, like Arma 2, has to have an acceptable fps. I would say anything dropping below 35 Fps for a game like this is unplayable. It’s hardly alot of fun when you feel like you are running through treacle, and it's even worse trying to target the enemy in slow motion.
Couldn't agree with you more about FSX... it's very true that FPS do not matter as much in flying an aircraft as in a firefight (although you could argue that having less than 20 FPS bringing a 747 in for a landing in a 30kt crosswind in zero visibility is like combat...)
I think FPS's need good FPS's (I know, I'm not clever...). I play them all, much like you do it sounds, and I will agree that trying to play Crysis, Fear, L4D, TF2, Stalker (one of my favs), etc at less than 30 FPS SUCKS!
But how about we stop arguing and get back to playing eh?

Here is the flaw in your comment. Many people CAN'T get a playable frame rate in the campaign regardless of the graphics settings used. I am one of those people. I have an i7 920, with dual GTX 295s and can't get above 27 fps for an average on LOW settings. Clearly not acceptable. I would be ecstatic with an average of 35-40 fps on normal settings. Before you start attacking those of us in the community who are expressing our dissatisfaction due to the fact that we can't even play the game, maybe you should educate yourself on the issues people are having. Now go back to playing your copy of Arma 2 that clearly works on your pc at a playable frame rate, as you clearly have nothing of value to add to the troubleshooting board.
At no point did I attack anyone... I'm simply trying to help people enjoy their game they spent hard earned money on... geez man take it easy!
I haven't checked my FPS but on my system listed in my sig it runs plenty good enough to play it...
I just don't base my enjoyment on a Framerate counter...
Try it sometime bro!

I use something similar with Flight Simulator for the same reasons. I'll have to give this a shot, thanks!
-
Why not just post a thread saying 'I have a superior system and can run the game so I am not interested in the other 80% of folk who isn't a spoilt brat and cannot afford to upgrade every component to play the game'. ?Thanks for the really useful advise.
Whoa buddy let's not turn this into a grudge match!
My system is mediocre at best (see the cpu OC I had to do to try and keep up with the crowd)... My FPS hover between 20-30 depending on which cardinal direction I am facing and what's around to render! I'm not running an i7, 12 GB of DDR3 and two GTX 295s in SLI (although I sure wish I could afford it!).
And my wife would agree with you that I am spoiled... I get to budget in my computer upgrade every other year...
Sorry if I offended anyone, I'm just trying to help people enjoy their game.
BTW it's spelled "spoiled" not "spoilt"

Do you maybe have a joystick or other peripheral that is attached and activated that is causing this spin? If so disable it in your control settings and see if the problem still occurs.
-
ROFL! I actually booted up the original Quake (on Steam) the other day and started the single player... It amazes me to remember what "awesome jaw-dropping graphics" used to be!
FYI: I remember tweaking and overclocking to get that game to run good on my 486!
-
Sorry, but I personally disagree to some extent .. LOL, if you know something is broken on your system why not try and fix it? I pay huge $$ per year to keep up with the bleeding edge on my PC so that I can enjoy everything in full glory at full speed..It honestly took me over a week to get this game from avg of ~30 fps to flat tac 60 but it was worth it. I know arma does not need 60fps by any means, but having solid "consistant" fps is important. Anyway what I am trying to say, is if I gave up the game would still run like shit for me.. Obviously bitching and moaning on low->mid systems is futile as some peoples expectation are to high
EDIT: Just to clairfy, I agree that FPS is not everything, but if you clearly have issues dont give up! :) But then again my FPS scale (expectation) is way higher then most people
I completely agree and I too have tweaked my game in order to play it (the -winxp trick for my 4850x2 was essential!) with good FPS. I posted for those who spend more time tweaking then playing.

As a new user to ARMA 2 and a new member of the forums, I'm finding this community to be very similar to the Flight Simulator X(FSX) community in regards to tweaking and framerates...
I see many people obsessed with making sure their FPS is where they want it and if it isn't going to the ends of the earth (and then flaming about the game) to try and get it within their "FPS Tolerance."
Good God people give it a rest! Play the game!
I had the same problem with FSX... I spent more time searching forums, tweaking, and testing than playing the game. I may as well have used the game as a benchmark! Then one day I decided to say screw it and started playing the game and actually enjoyed it!
So everyone take a deep breath, set the graphics settings to playable settings (you aren't going to be able to run the game at 60 FPS with a dual core Athlon, a GeForce 8600 and very high graphic settings, sorry), and PLAY for Heaven's sake!
I know we all want more than we pay for, and I'm sure I'll be applying the next tweak or mod that comes out, but I pledge to play more than tweak!
Happy hunting!

It sounds like a good team of ARMA Crackheads could be able to make a profit off of this idea if they could convince Bohemia to allow them to develop a commercial "addon" similar to the many addons for MS Flight Simulator.
Think about it, Counterstrike for Half-Life and Team Fortress for Quake were both mods before they were made into complete games, and Valve hired both mod teams to make actual games based on their mods... I think there is something brewin' here...
-
And by the way, I fucking hate Macintoshes :)Can I get an Amen? AMEN!
-
It's all or nothing by disabling or enabling the PostProcessing option for now.

Works great in Windows 7 RC 7100. I haven't had any issues.
I haven't had any driver issues with Win 7, in fact 7 is great on updating your drivers for you (even the correct versions!).
I recommend grabbing the cheap $49.99 Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade from newegg.com or Amazon before the sale ends in about a week, you won't be sorry!
You die hard XP fans will be making a very ignoramous mistake by not jumping on this and paying $49.99 instead of $119.99 down the road... I'm just saying...
And if you are sceptical, grab the free Release Candidate and give it a shot by installing it on a separate partition and dual-booting your system, I guarantee you will be "single booting" into Win 7 within a week.
