  1. Maybe you are right. Nevertheless, I installed the todays beta patch a have to say the texture loading issues seems to be back again:o( In Elektrozavodsk (or what is it called), textutes were loading so slow for me I could have made myself a cup of tea meanwhile...:o(((
  2. I would like to know one thing. Recently, I have been reporting here that since ATI 9.8 and these beta patches I am experiencing better FPS and faster texture loading. However, the changelog does not mention any performance related issues to be fixed or improved in this area. So is it some kind of a "placebo" effect impacting me or is the ATI drivers or what...?:o)
  3. I did some testing today and want to confirm my previously expressed impression that textures are loading faster than in 1.03. I do not have this slow texture loading problem with trees or bushes but mainly with buildings where the textures seem to be "popping up" in layers (being no IT specialist, I dont know exactly how it works so this is how it looks). It would seem that the actual size of the village / city makes no difference (= it happens both in small villages and large cities with the same intensity). With some buildings, first thing I can see is a mere grey "cube" that suddenly gets shaped and coverd with textures. This happens with only some of the buildings and objects (fences, mail boxes...). This is however an extreme case (happens with ca 1 / 20 buildings) On the other hand, I am sure in confirming an increase in FPS that is, by all means, significant. Also, I am not sure wheather this improvement in loading time is due to the latest beta patch or ATI 9.8 as I installed both the driver and patch at the same time...I guess this is for BIS to find out:o) Good luck!
  4. Honestly, I have no idea:o) I just went to the official ati.com web page and downloaded the full suite (ca 37 Mb).
  5. Despite my previous unwillingness: I installed ATI 9.8 + the latest beta patch, and - I noticed a significant increase in FPS - I HAD to notice a significant increase in textures loading (!!!) I did not temper with the config file, I just set all the settings to VERY HIGH and TURNED OFF post-processing. Fact is, in the capital city, the textures can still be seen "popping up" after a while, but much faster than before. In the country and small villages, everything seems nearly perfect so far...;o) On the other hand, dialogues are seriously messed up - when my character is talking to someone else, all the dialogues are very quite (irrespective of how the volume is set) and sound as if from a distance. Good progress, BIS and ATI:o) SPECS: WinXP 32bit 3GB Ram ATI 4850 1GB VaporX
  6. Totally agree. I read through both the log and forum and I am not even going to install it as none of the things listed has ever been a great deal for me. Hoping they add something to fix the PERFORMANCE, especially the horrible slow-loading textures (?).
  7. A new beta patch? Where is that available? There is no such patch in the Updates section...

    NEW! Ati Drivers 9.8

I cannot agree here. I have a 1GB GPU (ATI) and I have also experienced artifacts. Although, I must admit, only with a certain setup. My most significant problems have been the slow-loading textures. I also dont agree that it is hardware related. On the other hand, what I see here often is people with Win7 having no problems while others (Vista and XP) do. Looking forward to BIS QUICKLY fixing this:o)

    NEW! Ati Drivers 9.8

Downloaded and installed. First impressions: - slightly better FPS - in the capital city, far better texture loading (faster) - after ca 20 min of gameplay in other parts of the country - no changes against 9.7, resp.1.03, textures still loading slow as hell. No problems with trees and bushes, but especially with buildings and civilians Conclusion: makes no difference, the game still needs HEAVY polishing from BIS, i.e. 1.04 focued on PERFORMACE Specs: ATI 4850 1 GB VaporX 3GB Ram WinXP 32bit AMD Athlon 62 X2 Dual 5200+

    The Most Obscure Easter egg(s)

No, Kraftwerk means nothing in Czech. Power station = elektrárna;o) You can keep dreaming that BIS like the band:o))
  11. The locals (Cernarussians) speak Czech and the main character you are playing, in some dialogues with the locals, speaks Czech also, although a crappy one - probably to show that its really not his mother tongue to speak with;o) Some other characters I noticed (e.g. the Czernarussian captain who is present to you capturing Lopotev for the first time) speak English with a heavy Czech accent. This applies to the Czech version of the game but I assume its the same for other releases worldwide as well, only its subtitled.

    ARMA II Community Update

I almost wet my pants after reading this - SOOO hilarious:o)))) Otherwise - Excellent news, great to see BIS changing their communication strategy! Be honest BIS, did it hurt to post ONE comment that does SUCH a service to the community?;o) Looking forward to more news and patches!

    Patch 1.04 suggestions

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?p=1388340#post1388340 There is not much info about it but read the following discussion, people are eleborating the issue more in detail;o)

    Patch 1.04 suggestions

Agreed, thats what troubles me the most. I would expect that to be fixed with a quick hotfix (release of which was promised by BIS in another thread) rather than a regular patch that will surely take another 5 or 6 weeks at least. Until then, the game is still unplayable for me:o(
  15. Exactly what happens to me after installing 1.03. Before that, I had been receiving all the "usual" graphical bugs (slow-loading textures, silver heads, flickering etc.). With 1.03, "invisibility" appeared + "flattening" of weapons, i.e. at some moments, rifles in the hands of my squad members loose "plasticity" (3D) and become totally "flat", visible only from an angle (2D). I have a freshly defragmented disk. WinXP 3GB Ram ATI 4850 1GB VaporX (newest drivers) I am afraid going to Win7 is not a solution. There MUST be something to help WinXP users!?
  16. Thanks, but thats a definite "no":o) I have already purchased a new GPU (which didnt help:o) and I am definitely not going to buy any other piece of equipment only to get one (+*/-´=´) game going:o)))) But thanks for an idea! Nevertheless, from your answer I understand that my idea of having WinXP and Win7 running on one disk is unreal...?:o)
  17. I am reading a lot of posts here recommending Win7 against WinXP. I have WinXP and facing all the major graphical issues with ATI 4850 series. My nOOb question is: (dont flame me, I am no IT magician) Is is possible to install and run Win7 together with WinXP on one PC and use Win7 only for Arma and WinXP for the rest (both on 1 disk)? I am sick of only thinking about trashing all the data and reinstalling the entire system only to make ONE game work...Thanks! PS: amazing, as of today, I have officialy spent more time trying to make the game work than actually PLAYING the game...
  18. I noticed an odd thing: As seen in developers diaries, the game is beautifully coloured, lively colours, nice shades etc. Now, not thinking about those terrible graphical bugs I am getting even with 1.03 (slow loading textures, silver heads etc.), I noticed that my game is far from being so colourful. Its rather "grey" (i.e. grey tones of colours) and dull; amongs others, while in the videos grass is naturally green, "my" grass is more grey, as if without watering...:o). ONLY when I press ESC to enter the menu, the picture freezes and in that moment, its as colourful as in the videos. Any tips as to how to increase the vividness of the picture? 3GB RAm ATI 4850 1GB VapourX XP
  19. Thx, that was it;o) However, I am still facing horrible slow loading textures, which make the game unplayable. I cannot help it but I cant concentrate on the game where there are always tens and hundreds of textures flickering and focusing and loading where ever I look. Looking forward to 1.04...any new as to when its going to be released and wheather it is going to actually DO something about this issue?...:butbut:

    1.03 Performance

I voted for the 3rd option because, as I have stated in several other threads, all the serious graphical bugs are still there PLUS some new ones (squad members becoming TOTALLY invisible, car windows in cars are all BLACK and only after few seconds become translucent...and FPS dropped.

    Patch 1.03 Satisfaction Survey

I voted for "Bad" because all what had been driving me mad before the release (serious graphical bugs with ATI 4800 series) are still there + some new ones. The game is still unplayable for me:mad::mad:

    1.03 frustrations

Totally disappointed with 1.03:( All the graphical bugs with ATI 4850 are remaining and there is even a couple of new ones. E.g. my whole squad must have invented an invisibility pill for they all dissappeared all of a sudden and I could only see the green diamonds in midair. Textures stilll flickering, missing, loading slow as hell, silver heads, helmets burying deep in soldiers heads...terrible. So long we had to wait only to get this...?

Any news of the upcoming patch?

I agree for the following reasons: 1) An increased activity of moderators. Being all skilled military commanders, we (meaning the entire community here) know that an increased activity of the opposing force can only results in action (=release of 1.03). 2) In the Czech Republic (where I live and where BIS are based), Thrusday is called a "little Friday". It means that people, anticipating weekend already, practically cease working on Thrusday only to chat on Friday and leave workplace immediatelly after lunch:o) No, theres not going to be anyone in BIS on Friday, the PATCH IS COMING OUT TOMMOROW!!!!! Mark my words;o)
  24. When hunting Lopotev and moving from one rebel camp to another on a helicopter, the heli suddenly disappeared and we were all "hanging" in the air. Pilots were "sitting" in midair and thus we were all moving. Another heli bug: whenever I mount a heli, the minigun has a "flame" coming out of its barrels as if shooting. It only disappears when I really shoot it.
  25. You can access the config file through Documents and Setting (ArmA2.cfg). Make sure you disable the "Read-Only" function before rewriting the file and allowing the "Read-Only" once you finish (otherwise your settings will be rewritten by the game).
