  1. You know what? I'm glad the game isn't mainstream. I've been playing FPS games online for years... From Joint Operations, to the Battlefield series, Call Of Duty, Gears Of War and so on.... I don't play them anymore. Why?

In my opinion, people in general are more concerned with stats. They are concerned with their total headshot count. They are concerned with the amount of dogtags they have. They stat-pad to fulfill their internet ego's. They hack and cheat to achieve the same results.

Arma is different. Again, in my opinion, Arma is wonderful because there is no reason to cheat. Cheating is what deters me from playing all those other games. With Arma, I satisfy myself by accomplishing things in the game that require teamplay.

If this game went completely mainstream and gained the popularity similar to other titles, this community would be no different than the others. People pay upwards of 100$ to cheat in games that, if they took their time, could achieve close to the same results if they just practiced and learned the games. Most other games are only "clean" games for the first year or so, maybe less. When a game is released, the hack are expensive, so the masses that play those games do not have access to hacks at first. But as the games age, the hacks become cheaper and easier to get. Eventually, what you have is at least one cheater in every server. Even if they aren't going 100-1 KDR, there are closet cheaters, the kind of people that join a "No Cheat" clan and cheat right under their so-called friends noses.

In a nutshell, if this game grew beyond the intimate community it now has, most server admins would be stricken with the same problems the admins of those other FPS games have. Being an admin for Joint Operations, the entire Battlefield series and COD series, I spent alot of my time kicking and banning cheaters, going over fraps footage, and battlerecorder footage, checking screenshots etc.... It turned into a fucking job.

Not to mention the limitations of those games. I NEVER play them anymore. I am much happier playing Arma. Theres no drama. Except, well.... take a guess....

Soon, I will start looking for a clan/squad to join with the hopes of meeting new people with the same interests as me in terms of the style of play I'm looking for. The relevance to this last statement should be obvious, but I'll point it out and reiterate nonetheless. in terms of the style of play I'm looking for Every niche is covered with this game, it just might take a little work to find what best suits you as an individual. Theres no reason for BIS to make any limitations whatsoever, when we, the community, can do that ourselves.

did you play arma 1 papercut???? hacked to death

  2. The problem is the solution that has been presented at LEAST ten times in this thread. Elitism. The essential NEED to join a clan to play this game in multiplayer.

This is complete B.S. It is nothing but roleplay and fantasy gameplay.

ARMA 2 needs to take some pages from the Project Reality Playbook. I am going to list the essentials to bring this games Pub servers up from a 3/10 to a 10/10.

    SQUAD TACTICS! They are ABSENT!

When you first get to the server you get to pick a spot on a team in a squad (fire team I think). Positions are machine gunner, sniper, rifleman, medic etc. This is awesome.

Unfortunately it means jack and squat. People immediately run over to the weapons box and grab a .50 sniper rifle and a rocket launcher. What the hell is the point of having a squad and a squad leader and positions on the squad if they mean diddly?

One of the coolest things that impressed me immensely about Project Reality was the in game voice chat. It is awesome! EVERYONE uses in game voice chat. MANY people also use the in game typing to communicate. They are both simple but both work extremely well.

You join a map and IMMEDIATELY you can EASILY bring up a quick menu that lists the Squads. It lists the number of players in each squad, The loadout of weapons they currently have, the names of the players. You can make custom squad names. Common names of squads are English VOIP, TEAMWORK, Tank Squad, Transport etc. This is entirely ABSENT from ARMA 2!!!

To change squads you have to leave the game????????????????????????

No wonder there is no teamwork. There is no cohesive team glue to hold people together. Without a QUICK and EASY way to form squads, see who's in your squad, change Squads, form your own squad there is never going to be a pub ARMA 2 game that takes off the way that Project Reality does.

The Weapon Loadouts are another killer. Kits need to be limited in some way. Not everyone gets to have a Rocket Launcher and a .50 sniper rifle. Too many Chiefs and not enough Indians.

NO ONE uses in game voice chat on pubs. When I play Project reality the first thing the squad leader asks is "Do you have a Mic?". Communication is KEY! But I guess when you have a Javelin and a .50 Sniper Rifle you are John freaking Rambo and do not need a squad or voice chat. Only need that flagpole to magically jump to the next red circle.

This is Pub but It does not have to be this way.

I can GUARANTEE that if Project Reality had the ability to run to a weapons crate and grab a .50 and a Rocket no one would bother with squads either. Squads help you stay alive. It helps you get a better score. The medic can throw you a heal. The squad leader calls for a chopper and pops smoke and places rallies. The SAW gunner suppresses. The Designated Marksman spots targets before you can see them. When you run to a crate to grab a weapon you can only do it if you are in a squad. Lone Wolfs have to use the stock weapon loadouts. Your squad leader might say "Hey we need a medic can you grab a medic kit?" or "Sorry bro I have to kick you because you grabbed the Sniper Kit and will be completely worthless to our Infantry Squad".

Squad Leaders CANNOT manage squads in ARMA. This NEEDS to be fixed. The Squad Leader is the cheese to the macaroni. Not a character skin.

The Need to bring up a QUICK EASY list of your teammates and the squads they are in. AGAIN this is entirely absent from ARMA. Hell most of the time in PUBS I do not even know who is IN my squad let alone who my squad leader is or what our plan is.

This is NORMAL EVERYDAY 95% of the time in Project Reality PUBS! I have joined servers in RUSSIA in Project Reality (I am in North Carolina US) and played with some guys that spoke broken english but we were still able to communicate, form efficient squads, see what kits we had and what we needed, mark mission objectives for the squad and execute them efficiently.

There needs to be a freaking HUGE overhaul to the interface for ARMA for multiplayer squad control. It is currently terrible and if it is not changed there will NEVER be any decent pub squad play. Check out Project Reality and see that even though the Battlefield 2 engine is old the simple squad function makes it excel.

To rehash here is what I have covered in my ramblings.

1- Ability to do more with squads and squad functions such as naming squads, kicking and inviting to your squad, See who is in your squad, see what weapons loadout they have.

2- Kit changes such as limiting kits so that not everyone is running around with a sniper rifle and a Javelin.

3- The in game voice chat seems to function very well but without the squad changes no one will bother to use it.

Project Reality is awesome to play in a team environment. ARMA 2 could BLOW it out of the freaking water with just a FEW SIMPLE changes to the squad interface.

The graphics in ARMA 2 make me drool. It is amazing to look at.

BUT the public multiplayer needs some Project Reality injected into it in a bad way. Thanks for your time and thanks for reading. -Josh

some people just want to play?? and shoot

i have an nvidia 295 gtx, and i find that running with the hdmi cable makes the game jerky? but running the game without it, it runs fine ???????????

  4. I have reinstalled, cleaned the registry and updated DirectX and every possible driver(I think). During uninstall I get the missing string error(that some others have mentioned) and everything just deletes. There is nothing to remain to delete after the error in unistall.

The game itself doesn't give me a error message, it just freezes and the whole computer refuses to work(I have to boot manually). My game is a legit copy, ordered from UK(English version) so I shouldn't have any securom issues? I have correctly typed my cd-key so that shouldn't mess anything up( I think otherwise it would give an error message).

During the install I have antivirus softwares and firewall disables along the Vista's UAC. I have vista home premium 64bit. The patch installs itself without a problem but the game doesn't run patched or unpatched. I have tried patching to 1.02 without starting the game in 1,01 aswell.

The rest of my system is:

    Core2duo E8400 3,0 Ghz

    Ati Radeon HD4870

    2*2gigs Kingston 800mhz DDR2

    Asus P5Q PRO motherboard

I am frustrated with this as I am not usually having any problems with games( it is hard to act as you don't get any feedback). I have been running different checks and my system seems perfectly stable. I just defragged my harddrive and the other games are not having any problems. Thanks in advance from any help received.

Incase you want me to submit more information, let me know. I decided to make a new topic, as my problem differs slightly from the existing ones and some of them been solved by the patching.

Edit: I don't have any unnecessary programs running while starting/installing and I don't have any virtual drive software installed(like PowerISO)

    dont use hdmi cable????

mine wont run using the hdmi cable??? but runs ok with ordinary cable

  5. Hello everyone!

My problem is that when I install ArmA 2 and try to run it nothing happens. I have also noticed that after install when I put in the disc and the autorun box appears, the "Play" option is marked with gray colour, resulting me being unable to click it.

While checking the error logs I noticed that every time I have run the game, it has caused an error and the game has crashed without any specific reason. Has anyone else encountered this problem and if one has, how has the problem been solved?

I have tried to patch the game from the boxed version to 1.02 but this hasn't solved the problem. I have also tried to run it as an administrator and in compatibility mode with different Vista and XP versions.

Phew, I hope that's all I can tell about the problem...

edit: I also searched for Bohemia Interactive folder from my Registry files but it is not there. Could that be the reason my game is not starting?

edit2: Managed to find the folder, so don't mind the upper edit

mine crashed on start up every time?? my machine was running nvidia 295 gtx using the hdmi cable?? took out the hdmi and replaced it with ordinary cable (dont know the name avi or something) but anyway it now works fine. keep trying the hdmi but still doesn`t work with it
