Unfortunately all of a sudden my drive has stopped reading discs also, which I only learned after inserting the Arma 2 disc in the drive... I guess it was just bad luck, was working a few days back. I extracted the contents of the disc using my laptop and moved the setup files, but I'm now stuck at the same point as Ketamine, I can't play the game because my drive won't read the disc.
I'm slightly paranoid about why the same random occurence has happened to someone else, plus my device name for the drive in device manager has gone all screwy...I don't remember exactly what it was to begin with, but I'm so sure it wasn't a bunch of random letters and numbers like it is now.

Edit button where art thou, I'm tired and have read the OP wrong, my drive works for NO discs at the moment. I guess I don't have to worry about it being a freak coincidence anymore, so that's a relief. Regardless I can't play the game like OP because the disc can't be read.
Sorry for the double post.
