Arma Crashes! Help Needed! Searched and Nothing!
Jonney Napalm replied to jepaul's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
TBH pchaxor, I don't think we're suffering from the same error. Example:- I'm running the latest 186.18 Nvidia drivers with the SLi EVGA patch, Arma 2 is patched to the latest and all my other drivers are at there latest versions. I've done no tweaking of the game apart from running -nosplash in the target line. All settings on the Nvidia control panel are at default. In theory, the game should run and stay running with theses settings. FPS and smoothness are irrelevant at the moment, this is where all the tweaking should come in, to improve fps and smoothness, not to just get the game to basically run. I've deleted the .cfg file so Arma2 will detect everything again So I'll start the game. Arma has defaulted to texture, terrain, object and shadow detail at normal, Video Memory at Very High, Anisotropic at normal, AA at normal, post proc at high, quality pref of very high with an interface res of 1920x1200x32 and a 3d res of 1440x900(75%) I shall leave them there and not make any adjustments I'm in the main menu, I can happily Alt-Tab in and out to carry on with this post. I'll pick, single player/editor/Chernarus and put a UH-1Y in the middle of the airfield in the top left quarter of the map with me as pilot. Ok, Ive clicked preview and I've had the loading screen followed by the receiving screen (which flashes black and white, reminding me of an old spectrum loading screen. Don't really think it should do that BTW) I'll get out of the chopper and just stand facing it for a while, not moving. Ok, been to the toilet, had a smoke, made a cup of tea and brought in the rubbish bin (trash can to the Americans) off the street and everything is still fine after 10+ minutes. Processor running at 30%, Ram at 36%. Gpu's at ~60 degrees C and vram at ~50 degrees C Lets ramp it up a bit and go for a fly round! Ummm, what a lovely day for a trip. Framerate is silky smooth with the odd slight pause and the occasional bit of texture 'popping' on buildings, but nothing too bad. Still very playable Headed north and then turned south for a bit of low level through the valleys and finally over towards the coast. Yoinks!, textures beginning to flash a bit, damn it's frozen at 18 mins. the mouse cursor is visible in the ceter area of the screen as if there is an error box lurking behind. Alt-Tab out and the game has gone, not even still running in task manager. I don't agree that Arma2 stresses my system into falling over as my CPU never goes above about 45% @ 40 degrees C, ram usage over 50% and my GFX cards never rose above about 60-65 degrees C. That's not a system workout in my books. I've even played about 2 hours of online L4D at totally maxxed out settings at 1920x1200 with Prime95 running in the background when I forgot, and it never missed a beat then. I'm not convinced it's totally an Nvidia fault ( but some issues may lie with the drivers)as none of the other 10's of games I run seems to fall over, some might not run great, but they still do run, the one thing that ArmA2 can't seem to do. I've tried all the other tweaks, driver changes and settings that people have recommended and fps and smoothness are affected, but not the fact that Arma2 can't seem to manage more than about 20 mins before it's texture buffers seemingly overload and it bails out. I personally think, rightly or wrongly, and I'll admit to not being an expert, that it's all down to some way that Arma2 addresses the video memory on the GTX 295 cards or the fact that the memory architecture of the 295 is a little flawed. I hope to be proved totally and utterly wrong, and that it's a simple little fix, but hey, I ain't gonna be holding my breath. .CFG file reads:- language="English"; adapter=-1; 3D_Performance=-4194304; Resolution_Bpp=32; Resolution_W=1920; Resolution_H=1200; refresh=60; Render_W=1440; Render_H=900; FSAA=2; postFX=2; HDRPrecision=8; lastDeviceId=""; localVRAM=1948971008; Arma Crashes! Help Needed! Searched and Nothing!
Jonney Napalm replied to jepaul's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I've done all the driver sweeping thing to death, infact, I've even reinstalled vista! I'm currently running the 186.18 drivers with the EVGA patch and the game runs great, right upto the point it folds. Problem with the GTX 295? Definately! Who's 'fault' it is? I've no idea. Anyway, if any of the devs read this and want me to do some testing running driver X and settings Y etc then just PM me and I'll help out as much as I can. No point in whinging, I thing we just have to play the waiting game rather than the ArmA 2 game. -
Getting very confused, can someone help?

Hi all, Can someone explain what this means please:- 'Error during v-buffer creation: error 8876017c' I'm having no end of problems trying to get ArmA2 to run, and run well, as it seems are quite a few others. I've trawled through the forums and tried a miriad of different setting, adding this and that to the exe target, downloading and updating then rolling back of video drivers etc. I just really want to play this game as the few times that I have got it to work properly I think it looks just stunning. It seems my hardware choices have made me one of the afflicted as I have:- Intel core i7920 at stock 6Gb of DDR3 ram Asus Rampage II Extreme GTX 295 gfx card All running Vista 64 Home premium. ArmA2 patched to 1.02.58134 Nvidia 182.50 video driver Am I right in presuming that the above message is something to do with video ram? or is it system ram? I'm starting to get quite confused. Basically the ArmA2.RPT file is just a long list of the above message with a smattering of 'Vertex Buffer too small (19819<16384)' and finally ending with either 'Cannot commit ErrorMessage: Cannot commit Cannot commit Link to 94c9a0ba (Obj-308,166:186) not released' or Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at 71D49985 Version 1.02.58134 Fault address: 71D49985 01:00008985 C:\Windows\system32\d3d9.dll file: world: Chernarus Prev. code bytes: 00 00 85 FF 8B 86 10 2A 00 00 0F 84 CE 6A 02 00 Fault code bytes: 8B 4F 64 8B 9E 0C 2A 00 00 0B 9E 08 2A 00 00 8B Registers: EAX:00000C00 EBX:49CA5D04 ECX:09E57FC6 EDX:49CA5D00 ESI:06F03B80 EDI:0000000B CS:EIP:0023:71D49985 SS:ESP:002B:49C6FE9C EBP:49C6FEC0 DS:002B ES:002B FS:0053 GS:002B Flags:00010202 Now I understand that 'Fault address: 71D49985 01:00008985 C:\Windows\system32\d3d9.dll' is refering to video related things and that sometimes before I CTD my textures go all funked up and framerate drops. Also, in my cfg file I have 'localVRAM=924581888; nonlocalVRAM=1337501696;' Is the local vram my video card? if so it's only seeing about half of what is there, and the nonlocal vram my system ram? I presume those numbers are in bytes? I have the -winxp currently in my exe target. Can someone explain to me what numbers I should be seeing running a GTX295 and having 6GB of system ram (I know that ArmA2 is hard coded to 2GB of memory, but surely that's less that 2 GB) I'm basically just trying to understand which bit of my system is falling over so I can concentrate on looking for the solution for that, and not getting drawn in to changing a load of other stuff that isn't needed. Yours confusedly, Jonney -

Right, I've updated the drivers to 186.18 and run the EVGA enhancement patch. My cfg file now reads:- localVRAM=1948971008; nonlocalVRAM=1948971008; So surely that means that it has detected my GFX card more accurately? Still can't get the game to run though, as after a few minutes the textures start to corrupt and then it CTD's with a 'Cannot Commit' error box. -

I just want to know how they got the damn thing to run with the GTX 295 because I'm just living in CTDs'ville at the moment. i7+vista64+6Gb DDR3+GTX 295 = unhappy gamer :( -

Your also not running a GTX 295 judging by your sig. Lucky you, shoot some bad guys for us will you. -

I think it's an issue with GTX 295 GFX cards and something to do with the way the memory is addressed as it is essentially 2 cards in one running in SLI, which ArmA2 doesn't seem to like. Other than that I don't have a clue. I think me,you and most of the other GTX295 owners are just going to have to sit it out and hope that BIS brings out a patch to fix this, otherwise I'm afraid ArmA2 is only going to be good as a coaster for my beer. -

Jonney Napalm replied to Jonney Napalm's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Thanks for your replies. I think it's because ArmA2 only see's about half my video memory. The GTX295 has 1792Mb of video ram (I think, off the top of my head), but according to my cfg file, it's only seeing approx 880Mb. localVRAM=922484736; nonlocalVRAM=2143780864; As far as I understand, it's essentially 2 gfx cards stuck together, each having half the v-ram, so approx 896Mb per card. It see's and uses both GPU's as far as I can tell as the second GPU is throttled back until Arma is started and then ramps up to match the first GPU. I may be barking up the wrong tree completely, but as arma2 is only detecting half my v-ram and I'm having issues adressing v-ram, I suspect the 2 may go hand in hand. Still got absolutely no idea as to how to go about fixing it though. -

I'm running an identical set-up to you and I get the same. @jurrego, it looks like he is already running the 7.15.11.8250 driver Have a look in the Arma2.rpt file. You will find it at c\:users\your username\appdata\local\arma 2\ You may have to set 'show hidden files and folders' in folder options on the control panel to make the appdata folder show up. I suspect it may have something to do with not being able to address video memory. Out of curiosity what are the memory sizes shown in you arma2.cfg file? Mine shows:- localVRAM=922484736; (880Mb ish) nonlocalVRAM=2143780864; Which is only about half my video memory. I suspect this has something to do with the errors, but I have no idea why or how to fix it. -
i7 + GTX295, what's the deal?
Jonney Napalm replied to Philll's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Well, this time I tried exactly the same thing (Intel® HT Technology - Disable selected) and I'm now getting 10 fps more (gone from 50 to 60) on the carrier menu screen. Totally weird! More investigation required methinks! @Bloodthorn, it's called 'bouncing idea's around' That's how problems get resolved, I know it's not a 'fix', but it helps people to try and understand the issue at hand. I'm gonna select HT back on, but just wanted to see what effect it had off. Anyways, not ryed playing with HT disabled yet, so I think I'll give it a quick try. A very quick try as it's 02:30 here :( -
i7 + GTX295, what's the deal?

Exactly Philll, that's why I posted really. Nope, just HT disabled, I'll go back and recheck what I did tho. -

Firstly hello all, ArmA newbie here. :) I'm running and i7 920 with a GTX 295 and I've been getting a reasonable framerate that makes the game playable and fun, so that's good. I've, on the bad side been suffering alot of CTD's, so that's not good. But anyways, I've been browsing the forum for some clues to the above and came across this thread. I decided to disable HT just to see what it did and OMG, 0-2 fps on the carrier menu screen! No idea why, just went into the bios (Asus Rampage II Extreme) and disabled it and, wham!, unplayable. Just wondering how other peeps are getting a smoother ride with it disabled. Seriously feeling like my setup ain't performing TBH.
