My friend and I have recently bought retail copies of ArmA 2 however we've both been suffering from poor performance especially in intense areas.
We've recently been trying to complete the mission entitled "Harvest Red", with the big US assault on Chernogorsk. I haven't been able to get higher than 17 FPS in the action and my friend reports a peak of 32 FPS.
Spec 1 (Mine):
AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 3800+, 2.3GHz (OC'd)
2.5GB RAM
BFG GeForce GTX 260 OC MAXCORE (896MB)
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Service Pack 2
Spec 2 (Friend):
Intel Core i7 CPU 965, 3.8GHz (OC'd)
3GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 x3 (3-way SLI)
Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1
We've tried various things; changing graphics settings, updating drivers, defragging, editing config files, editing shortcut launch options, my friend has even edited his .exe file to manually activate SLI without much success.
We've seen videos on YouTube of people playing the exact same segments as us and getting 40+ FPS, while recording. We're not sure what to think atm, as the game is irritating us more than entertaining currently.
