  1. Alright quick update, I tried uninstalling, reinstalling and only upgrading to 1.02 patch instead of the latest and still had the same issue. I tried just to play through it and deal with it, however it eventually blue screened and the computer restarted.

Is there any word of when this is going to be resolved if it is being dealt with at all? Is there an official bug submission site or tracker or anything for this? As of now the game is essentially unplayable for me, I only bought it a day ago so maybe I could try to return it.

Mate this has been going on for months and months. It's pretty obvious that BIS don't give a damn or they'd have commented and done something. I think their policy is to ignore it and let us fix it ourselves, which sucks because this is a complicated problem and many of us don't know how to.

If only there was an extremely wealthy extremely agitated ArmA II gamer as the actions (or inaction) of BIS would definitely stand up in court.

  2. Windows 7 and AGP (ATI Cards) doesn't work so I'm fugged ! Tried everything to get it working and no joy.

Guess ArmA 2 and all its greatness is going to have to wait for me to completely change my system before I can play properly, really happy I wasted my money on the German and UK versions, thanks BIS, great looking game, fantastic functions but doesn't work for me. This is my last post on this so good luck to eveyone else with the issue and I hope you have better luck.

Mate, we're not changing our systems, that's ridiculous. I'm not upgrading to windows 7, especially at EU prices, just to play ArmA II when I'm happy with XP and it should work with XP.

  3. I'm sorry if 18 pages of problems is tough to read but start at page 1 and you will see that is not an overheating issue. Speedfan, ATT, slapping a bif mofo fan to the side of your PC will not solve this issue for 99.9% of folk with this problem that only happens in this game.

Please view the amount of things everyone has tried to do to fix the issue then comment on what you believe the issue is rather than the default 'overheating', 'not enoug VRAM', 'defrag', etc.

    Well said.

  4. It was closed because it didn't appear to be a specific troubleshooting thread, it appeared to be a general rant/whinge/bitch/moan/complain thread, which is fine in itself if done in the appropriate place (example the pinned impressions thread in General), it's not fine in Troubleshooting where people should be posting problems and solutions, anything else simply gets in the way of the core point of the Troubleshooting forum.

Reason this thread is still open for example is because I see 2 specific troubleshooting issues slap bang in the middle of the thread starters post.

Ok well perhaps you can advise me where it would be best to raise the issue ATI 4800 series users are experiencing? (Seen here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=73235&page=14)

It doesn't appear possible for the issue to be overcome via user suggested technical work-arounds. As such, it would seem the troubleshooting forum is the wrong place for the problem as it really needs to be resolved from above. Where would be the best place to bring it to the attention of the developers?

  5. Excuse me?

I lock threads that either don't have a valid point or that break forum rules. If you have an issue with an action of mine then I'd suggest you grow some balls and contact me about it directly rather than taking little snide digs at me.

I'd say that this thread; http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=77270, raises an entirely valid point. Highlighting the difficulties encountered whilst attempting to resolve the bugs and suggesting a multilateral strategy of targetting video card developers and appealing to BIS so as to get the bugs fixed surely counts as troubleshooting. Troubleshooting is using whatever means possible to resolve a problem, be they purely technical fixes suggested by other users or appeals to the powers that be to resolve the matter. When the former has been exhausted as is the case with those posting within the thread, then what can one do aside from resort to the latter?

I took issue with you closing the thread as it appeared to me as though you did so because you found the content unpaletable, rather than that it did not fall within the parameters of this forum. But i'll relent since I've been warned for my troubles and knowing BIS i'll no doubt need to retain my ability to post as a result of the many new bugs that I am all but certain to encounter in the future.

  6. Ugh it's seriously irritating how some of you fanboy's or those of you with no problems assert that the bugs we are contending with are minor and insignificant or alternatively that the problems we have are our own fault (faulty configs or whatever). Although a plethora of minor bugs exist, I'm sure most people are prepared to overlook them and persevere in the knowledge that they will eventually be remedied.

HOWEVER, as far as I can see the bulk of us who are angry with BIS and pressing for fixes are those of us who have problems that render the game actually unplayable.

Check this 14 page thread; http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=73235 and perhaps you'll be able to appreciate why many of us are angry. When that many people have a problem and have gone to great lengths to 'troubleshoot' (hahaha) you cannot dismiss or disregard the claim that the game and the developers are seriously at fault.

To make matters worse they say nothing on the matter. A few half-assed suggesitons a few pages in from a dev, a vague suggestion that the user's config is at fault and then silence for however many weeks. How about BIS devs or representatives get on here and acknowledge the problems, how about they sticky the threads with the most widespread and serious problems.

Doing so would surely silence those of us who are on here lobbying for recognition and the resolution of our problems. We want to hear from BIS that they are aware of the more serious problems and doing their utmost to fix them, when that happens I will shut up and wait for them to be resolved.

  7. Look, I'm not trying to have a major whine here but there is clearly an issue affecting players enjoyment of the game and we are after all, customers. Please Bohemia can we have some kind of official word on what the problems might be, what the eta on a fix is or even if you think it's going to take ages to fix.

Personally I think there are 2 serious bugs that manifest themselves with similar symptoms and an analysis of the statements on this forum would tend to support this. From what I have experienced and can gather from posts of other people it goes like this:

First is the nvidia 2XX series problem which makes framerates really low.

Second is the cpu utilization problem caused by either loops in the ai code or something to do with buildings, or both.

I work in problem management for a major IT outsourcing company, if one of our clients was experiencing issues affecting their service then we would be in constant regular communication with them to at least say "we haven't a clue what the cause is but we're working round the clock to fix it".

Please anyone who agrees with me, sign below.

Agree, but I think you've overlooked the major ATI 4800 series problems, as seen here; http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=73235 which, as it stretches to over 14 pages and is more than a mere performance problem (low fps vs artefacts that render the game unplayablee), is surely worthy of a mention!

  8. I'm having trouble with tanks, sspecially online..

Is it better to have AI gunner and commander or AI driver? Should I set the AI to scan horizon and engage at will or do i need to tell them who to target specifically and when to fire? If I am in a tank with 2 players as commander, can I mark targets for them?

    Thanks!

  9. Its not the overheating of your card it is the problem with ATI cards and the AA. Just change your AA to disabled or low and it will go away. Somehow AA on ArmA 2 freaks out on ATI cards hopefully they'll fix it.

I did a full uninstall, installed the latest patch and put AA on low, the problem was worse than ever (as in it came very quickly). Will try again on disabled but wont get my hopes up.

  10. Hi, i have just purchased Arma 2 today and was suprised the majority of the servers are coop.I have found a few Team and Hold servers but I think they are German speaking.

Are there any servers about at the moment that do not include ai bots and have respawning armour and Aircraft?I ask this because every server I have been on they require you to buy weaponry and vehicles, whats all that about?

    Any help, much appreciated.

The game was released in Germany way before the UK, hopefully it will even out after time though. Co-op is apparently the most popular game type unfortunately, but I've settled for capture the island games (where you buy weapons + vehicles etc) which involves AI and a team of other players.

Basically there are 2 teams attempting to take over the towns throughout the island. This is done by wiping out the AI in the towns in the early stages of the game and wiping out the opposing team when you eventually come in to contact with them. The more towns you have the more income you get.

Whichever team takes over all the towns wins, or, more commonly, whichever team eradicates the other's base.

That's the basic outline of the rules, when you have enough cash you might want to buy a tank, or you might prefer to get a sniper + a mountain bike and set up shop in some forest overlooking an enemy town.

As for the English thing, the only English speaking pvp server with a decent amount of players is the XR server. Unfortunately even here some players insist on speaking Germn, although it is an English server and if you moan at them enough they might switch to English. Nothing against German as a language but when there are so few English servers and so many German it's irritating when they insist on speaking German even there.

  11. I've done a search and couldn't find anything so please forgive me if this has been reported before. I'm not sure if this is a glitch or something which can be toggled on and off (I've tried all keys though)..

Basically having had no problems with chat, randomly whenever I type it still uses the hotkeys. As in if I write 'too' my watch is stuck open as I double tapped 'o' etc.

How can I stop this happening?

  12. Seriously, how can we play with this?

    9u4vp38z.jpg

If I could, I'd go back to 1.01, but most servers switched already.

I can only hope it will be fixed in the next patch.

I'd just like to know that BIS are aware of it and are attempting to resolve it. Was great to see a response from a developer a few pages back and some suggestions (which unfortunately didn't work), but this thread now stretches to 11 pages and since then there has been sweet fuck all. I understand this was also an issue that went unresolved in ArmA I? In which case I'm a tad worried that the policy henceforth will be to disregard those of us with the problem as they've never been able to fix it..

  13. Same problem here. Have similar rig to everyone else, ATI Radeon HD 4870 not overclocked. Have the latest drivers and newest patch.

First encountered the problem on the campaign mission Red Harvest when I entered Chernogorsk. Like others have said it seems to be the result of being in a large built up area with a lot of stuff happening.

Since so many of us with ATI 4800 series cards in the same kind of places are getting the exact same problem, it's pretty clear that the responsibility for resolving the problem should not rest with us users. BI or the ATI people need to fix this and it should definitely get priority over other problems as it is literally unplayable.
