    sound issue

Try disabling any sound enhancement features, like EAX and whatever else Realtek has (can't remember, haven't used it in years)

Why is this game not more popular?

That's what I was mentioning by a limitation system. RF:G uses a loading system based on only loading the physics and graphics of the area you are in (basically 1.5-2 times your visual range). This is a great way to do it except for the multiplayer limitation. If you add another player and that player go's off to another section of the map then you'd need a computer twice as powerful in handling the physics calculations. ArmA on the other hand has the entire map loaded all the time, hence why it works coop. Say there's 20 small battles going on around the map at one time. Add RF:G's level of physics to the game and you'd need a computer 20 times more powerful in physics capabilities than the system running RF:G. I'd love there to be better physics in ArmA, but it's very difficult to impliment, especially since CPU's are straining under handling the AI calculations right now, add any level of physics and you're going to bring it all to a halt. The alternate being physics based hardware solutions. Unfortunately the only current one is Physx as part of nVidia, and even that couldn't handle ArmA's full map covered in physics. Although the tech isn't that far off, it still requires implimentation into a 3rd party solution (like nVidia's CUDA), and ATi has no yet known links to any physics company.

Why is this game not more popular?

Saying ArmA 2 is like OFP with mods is like saying that Modern Warfare 2 is COD1 with mods. Any which way, I'd love to have better physics in ArmA but unless another physics based hardware solution company rises up and merges with ATi, then it's unlikely to happen, at least not without forcing the limitations of other open world games (IE; Tether system)

    Commando Remake Confirmed

Remaking Commando without Arnie is like remaking A Nightmare on Elm Street without the humour, and no one would be stupid enough to do that... oh wait, nvm.

    Arma 2 graphic rendering problems

If you update to 1.05 you shouldn't need the -winxp after that.

Why is this game not more popular?

It's possible that the game would be more popular if the maps were smaller like BF and COD, but then I wouldn't like the game. I guess though that there could be a couple of infantry based islands by default. Similar to Utes but small and heavily city based for those that don't want open warfare. Although for that there's always the deathmatch style modes that force you to stay in an area.

New PC but now can't alt tab

The alt-tab issue is often a driver level issue for the graphics card. I know ATI recently worked out some alt-tab issues with some games (not being able to alt-tab) not sure if it worked with Arma 2 though.
  8. The USB system links with the bus system on your motherboard, so if your USB is limited it could slow the rest of your system down. That's why it's always suggested to update everything (people commonly ignore the motherboard but it's the backbone of the system, they also ignore older versions of Direct X but a lot of games use older versions of direct x)

Arma-2 Demo Looks Like A Cartoon

First goto this thread http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=77880 and click on the link for the latest direct x 9 distrib and download and install that (yes, DX9, even if you are using windows 7) After that if you're still having problems then goto; Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Sound -> double click on speakers (or whatever your default audio device is) -> click on the advanced tab -> under "default format" click the selection box and chose "24 bit, 44100 HZ (studio quality)" -> click ok then test ArmA 2. If it still doesn't work, go back and change it into "16 bit, 44100 (CD quality)"
  10. Try disabling Post Processing. It's likely that you may be encountering an issue that's making it like you were hit by a bullet (blurry vision), but disabling post processing should get rid of that effect. Also try setting your video memory to default or hig when this occurs (try each setting) Other than that, what are your video settings (resolution, 3d resolution, AA, texture detail, etc)?

Why is this game not more popular?

You have to see the community responses from both sides. Sure we can suggest many things and want them, but the two final factors come down to; "How many things can BIS possibly consider" - Suggestions usually range in the thousands, and BIS doesn't want to sit down with every idea to figure out if it would be implimentable and how much time and money it would take, especially when a large majority of those ideas can be implimented by the community, and the factor of... "Do BIS really want it in their game" - You have to remember that BIS created the game the way they want it and whatever suggestions that are brought up have to be what BIS deems "worthy" of being part of the core ArmA 2 game. So here's a suggestion for the suggestions forums. Occasionally Wolle and other mods will put up a poll as to whether people would like a certain element in ArmA 2 (FreeTrack support, mumble support, etc), so why don't people do the same. Seeing a thread in the suggestions forums with 100 pages doesn't mean much to a mod when they read a few pages and just see flame wars with the occasional good suggestion, so instead when you have an idea, post it in the suggestions forum with a poll as to who would like to see said idea implimented. It's a way of making it easier to see how many people actually want it, over how many just want to chat in another thread.

Call of Duty 7: Black Ops Trailer...

Yep. From what I remember of the legal doc, this game is meant to be called Call of Duty : Vietnam (working title though) and a large majority of the profits are meant to go to the sacked employees. Although I could be wrong, I browsed the documents a few months ago and didn't pay much attention to it.

Why is this game not more popular?

I agree that the spacebar scanning should be removed. Personally it has never bothered me but being that it's not easily disabled it'd be good if it could be setup to be easily disabled. That said, there's some factors against realism that I think belong in ArmA 2. Thing like the crosshair. Don't get me wrong, I play without it usually, but it should still be there as an option for people to use. There was a thread in the suggestion forums a while back demanding the removal of the crosshair and when I asked why the user didn't just disable the crosshair he (and others) argued that no one should have the option to ever use the crosshair (regardless of difficulty, servers settings, etc). For me it always comes back to a case of that if you don't like a feature then find a way to change it, and that's one of the great things about ArmA, that you can change what you want. People want to play with crosshairs, don't complain, just let them do what they want. People want spacebar scanning, well let them do it, but yes the game needs an easier way to disable it. In the end, the real question is "what does this have to do with the popularity of ArmA 2"..... bugger all (well, maybe slight relevance), so may as well get back on topic.

    do other countries get offended?

I'm Australian and my mortal enemy is this one guy in Rainbow Six : Lockdown. The game itself was bad enough but there's one terrorist that screams out things with a strong Aussie accent and I can't kill him because I have a laughing fit every time I hear him.
  16. What Domo said. I only ever had issues with city areas but the latest beta patch has gotten rid of it altogether for me.

Why is this game not more popular?

Thank god I didn't upgrade my PC since I get 60fps with a less powerful card :) In all seriousness, you do know that you linked a review based on benchmarks, and that the same review had benchmarks of Crysis with the same scores. http://alienbabeltech.com/main/?p=16997&page=6 So by that conclusion, Arma 2 is poorly optimised, but so is Crysis. Graphics gets better, and with that, so does demand. Live with it and upgrade, or lower your settings. Simple as that. (Note : I am sorry for bringing Crysis into this, but it always comes back to it doesn't it) (Note 2 : Can we possibly have a thread that doesn't fall to insults and calling each other Fanboys of this and that?)

    Strange monitor noise.

Go into ATI CCC or nVidia Control Center (depending on your graphics card) and look for the V-Sync option and set it to "Force off" or "Always off"

Arma-2 Demo Looks Like A Cartoon

Set 3d resolution (maybe called fillrate in demo, can't remember for sure) to 100% (basically set it to the same as your normal resolution)

    BIS is little bit .......

I think it's a loss of translation. I believe the OP doesn't speak/read english fluently and as such would have a more difficult time hunting down the information and has taken that as a belief that the information doesn't exist. To the OP, I would suggest getting someone in the Italian community (that speaks fluent English and plays ArmA 2) to help you with these features. And yes, SLI/Crossfire is supported.

Buy Arma2 in English [play German]

The language is based on the CD Key. Meaning if you use the German DVD and install with the UK key then initially it'll be German but after patch 1.02 it'll be in English. That said, I found a trick to it. I can't say this works for all versions but it worked for my Steam version when I first installed 1.02. I decided to put the German to English patch on the English version and everything went opposite, the English became German. I haven't tested it since 1.02 and it was originally a German version that I installed with an English key (I bought the English version after release and installed it using my German DVD). I have since re-installed using the English version so when I get a chance I'll test to see if it works with English and patch 1.05.

    Ready to give up

What you should do first is to set your squad to "aware" and don't alter their stance at all, then get in the habit of ordering your men in a manual bounding overwatch... By that I mean that when you move you set one man to a position, then set another member to advance to another position, then move the next squad member, and when it's safe then move yourself. Do this often, especially in towns or low visibility areas and after a while it'll feel more comfortable. Then you can start introducing other aspects of commanding your AI. Just take it slow, if you try to rush too much learning in then you'll end up with confused. Just the first key to remember is overwatch. If you know the position of your enemy then it's much easier. Always try to get your main overwatch (a machine gunner is a great overwatch) to be in a higher up position so they have a literal overwatch on the whole situation... but watch out for those tricky flanking soldiers.

    ArmA 2 CTD

It's likely a driver conflict with Arma. I've heard of other people having the same issues when using Xbox controllers or joysticks. Best bet would be to uninstall the drivers and attempt to remove them all then install the latest driver. If that doesn't work, see if you can find an older version of the drivers.

There ya go, that's the filter system I'm talking about. If anyone comes up with good ideas in this thread, then someone can post those ideas in the suggestion forum without all the clutter.
