    ARMA 2 OA 1.52 :Bugs

Yep Beagle, got what you mean, just meant to say that from Gameplay wise I thought it was pretty good (with the AI waiting for you so you can go off and search for weapons).. mind you, real life wise I would have been court-martialed by now :) JP, yep, definitely different to ArmA 2 (which ain't a bad thing), I was just comparing my tank to the enemies tanks though. Of course as I mentioned I had a superior vehicle. Bug : Well, not quite a bug but something that could use work. The buildings are a lot better but there's still collision issues like trying to turn around and not being able to because your firearm/arms keep hitting the walls/doorway/etc. Feels awkward having to reverse like I'm a card stuck in a tight parking space.
  2. Data can be corrupted during download. It's unfortunate but it's a reality, hence why things such as SFV and MD5's exist. Although that may not be the issue. It could be a number of things such as corruption during installation, access violations on certain files or a conflict with video drivers. I updated to the most recent ATI drivers and now have an issue with both ArmA 2 and OA in that when it's dark the HDR light flickers on and off across the whole screen. Of course I can't blame anyone for the problem, it's just a conflict between Arma and the new ATI drivers.

    OA Out of memory error

It looks like the fix may have missed the initial release of OA and it may not be LAA (the fix in 1.07 only came out after OA went gold). I'm sure it'll be patched in soon but in the mean time the only solution I can think of is to temporarily use a 32bit OS (XP, Vista, 7) if you have another one for dual boot. Not the best option but if you're willing to go that far it should work fine. Edit : Make sure that your version is 1.52. If it's 1.51 or 1.50 then download the update from arma2.com as that may fix the issue.

    Where/how/when to buy ARMA2:OA?

I pre-ordered off Sprocket for US$50 only to see that price drop to US$35 straight after release, which doesn't really bother me 'cause I would have paid US$100 and it would have been worth every penny.... err.. cent. Combat Operations is definitely worth the buy on Steam though. Get OA plus ArmA 2 for an extra $10, then you can gift the ArmA 2 to a friend and get then hooked too.

    ARMA 2 OA 1.52 :Bugs

I think he meant while out of a combat situation. Obviously if there's any suspect of enemy then the soldiers will use caution, but I noticed in the campaign that if I leave my squad they'll move extremely slow. Not in a cautious way, but in a "Hurry up, we're waiting for you" way, then if I get close to them they'll start jogging. Of course the moment someone spots an enemy or approaches a suspected enemy area they slow down and use caution.

    OA Out of memory error

Are you running on a 64 bit os or 32 bit os? Have you tried running it in Windows XP compatibility mode?

    ARMA 2 OA 1.52 :Bugs

There may be a variable for control (player) as I noticed in the campaign that your tank is extremely over powered compared to the enemies vehicles. In many cases the enemy is using lower armored tanks but they can barely scratch your tank while you can one shot kill nearly anything. I gather that was adjusted for difficulty but not sure if it's mission specific or if any player controlled device (IED, tank, etc) has different damage/armor values.
  8. There seems to be a few issues while installing Sprocket on top of an Arma 2 install (especially Steam). As a workaround you can try installing to another directory then copying to your arma 2 install directory but I'm not sure on the install structure so can't say that it'll work for sure. I had an error about a crc mismatch on 1.07 patch while attempting to install to my Arma2 steam directory, in which case I just extracted the 1.07 patch from the Sprocket files and placed it in my ArmA 2 directory then installed on top of that. For some odd reason the Sprocket installer was looking for the 1.07 patch in the Arma 2 directory rather than in the compressed installer files.

    ARMA 2 OA 1.52 :Bugs

    - As mentioned there is some LOD and FPS issues with Zagrabad (high quality/dense building area most likely to blame) - Occasionally get stuck on rocks requiring restart - Ordering vehicles to stop then ordering the commander of a vehicle (while commanding several vehicles usually) to a point on the map is ignored and that vehicle just comes to your position. Ordering the driver prevents this, so only a minor issue. - AI occasionally walk through walls. * I noticed someone mention the soldiers walking slowly as a bug. I wouldn't call that a bug as such, but I've found that the squad will walk slowly when I'm away from them, then when I rejoin the squad they begin to run again. I thought this was a very excellent feature, and if you rejoin the squad and they still walk slowly then it may be a bug.
  10. It should be a higher quality sound but you are unlikely to notice it unless you have a high quality audio card. There shouldn't be much of a performance impact, and if you have a good audio card there shouldn't be any impact at all (as all processing will be done by the card's processor rather than the CPU).
  11. Jpinard, check you arma2oa.cfg file to make sure it's not read only, and check your drives permissions to make sure you can write to it. So far from what I've seen : - -English voice acting is still pretty bad (not as bad as previous iterations) -z-fighting and texture popping are still there, but much less than in ArmA 2 -Still get stuck on walls some times when trying to turn around in a tight building space (body collision with wall prevents turning) Other than those things the game is quite stunning. FPS are much better than ArmA 2, with the only FPS issue being that on initial load of a mission the game can run a little slow while it keeps loading while playing, but that clears up after a few minutes. Mind you I've only tested on a 32bit OS so may not be evident on a 64bit os with 4GB+ RAM with LAA now active.

    Questionable video on war.

I almost stopped watching after he mentioned joining the military to become a front line soldier and after which, telling his superiors that he was against any form of killing and feeling as if he wasn't listened to, then when he mentioned going into a house and killing the civilians and hinting that the government made him do it..... well, only a small number of Schizophrenics call the voices in their head "The Government".... well, then I listened to the rest of it for a bit of a laugh. Entertaining video that takes the problems in the military, over exaggerates them, and places the usual fallacies on top of it in order to generate shock value and attention in the same guise as any emo kid. Still, good for a laugh. ---------- Post added at 03:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:08 AM ---------- The debate over whether war is ever right or wrong is always rather pointless. In the end war has a massive downside, but sometimes unfortunately is required in defense. An example being WW2 when Hitler told his people that Poland had attacked German soil and that they were retalliating. That war was wrong, but if Germany invaded and no one else were brought into the war then less lives would have been lost in conflict, but the Jewish race would be almost extinct. Of course there will always be stupid wars like Vietnam, there will always be bad decisions made on either side of the equation, but in the end it's about the moral of it all. Personally I would easily give my life to protect others, as long as that was the goal. If the government asked me to invade a country to stop the torture of innocents then I would gladly go, if the government asked me to kill innocents to make them happy then I would murder the government. But this video has nothing really to do with that, it's just another angsty kid who wants to be heard and emtional and stuff. I'm sure he'll grow up, or have a psychotic break. Odd's are 50/50

The official football World Cup 2010 in SA thread

Ouch, no Love Rail, no love. It's all good. Germany beats Ghana 3:2 then Australia just needs to beat Serbia 6:0.... hmmmm Man I hope New Zealand beats Paraguay and Italy draws against Slovakia. Then I can hassle the Italian relatives that they lost to a country that until this world cup had never even reached a draw, let alone a win, at a world cup final.

The official football World Cup 2010 in SA thread

Well, All Australia needs is for Australia to beat Serbia (which will be close.. maybe) and Ghana to beat Germany (which is unlikely), or for Germany to beat Ghana and Australia to beat Serbia by 7 goals.... could happen.

    Where/how/when to buy ARMA2:OA?

It's like teaching a man to fish instead of buying him a fish. They are basically telling you that if you learn to use the force then you won't need a mouse and keyboard. Anyways... back on topic. I ordered from playasia but haven't ever ordered anything from them before (but I've heard good things). Originally when the English version of ArmA 2 came out I ordered from CDWOW. It took 2 weeks after release for them to tell me that they wouldn't have stock of the item for another 4-8 weeks, so never going that path again. I'll stick with my playasia order unless Steam happen to get it before they post it.

Why is this game not more popular?

The movement thing is a good part of it. ArmA feels more like you're moving a person as oppose to most other shooters where you're just moving a floating gun through the air without the limitations of the physical form. While ArmA isn't dead realistic on it's movement, the limitations in human movement is something people aren't acustom to in shooters so it seems wrong for most people. Of course there's always going to be differences in a game that aims for more realism, and many of these differences people don't like because they stand against the action FPS genre, but that's where the choice lies. Should BIS make a game that appeals to the masses, or make a game that they want to make. I'm sure everyone here is happy that BIS didn't go for the generic action shooter style, and a lack of popularity may not be great for the sales department but it's good for us. At least that's a large part of it, although there are a number of other things that could be fixed (and hopefully will be in OA), the main one being the bugs and glitches on initial release. Although most of them were fixed, first impressions mean everything. As a last point myself, I say to take Engioc's advice. Find bugs and report them on the community tracker. BIS often looks at the tracker and uses it to find and fix bugs, but there's place for that discussion elsewhere so I'll try not to go too far off topic.

    Red Dead Redemption

I'm about 1 hour into it and had to stop playing after that 'cause I kept falling asleep. The game is brilliantly dome, unfortunately the start is very slow and boring but I hear it gets a lot better.

    New Beta Build 70644 up!

Due to the changes in the cloud system (weather forecast) I'm guessing that all custom maps will have to be recompiled.

    a little help :)

Hmm... I think it's possible. Effectively when you go into controls you can choose the control set (ground vehicles, air, infantry) then from that click on each one and set it to something on your wheel or stick. Haven't done it myself with 2 devices though. I use the Logitech Xtreme 3D Pro stick for flying and had to manually set up a lot of it (throttle was automatically set but had to setup twisting the stick and the buttons to certain aspects of the craft)

    Is arma ... fun?

I think that's why Zipper said not to mention it. Because it'll turn into another thread about that game and get locked, as we've already had a marathon thread about it. In other words, back on topic please.
  21. Search youtube for some videos on the basics of the editor, but before that it's good to see it in action so try this : Select groups (on the right pane) then double click on a section on the map. place down a bluefor group (normal infantry should be default). Place another two groups of the same Move to another part of the map (not too far away) and double click again. Change the "Bluefor" to "Opfor" and place a standard default group, then place another 2 groups near it. Go back up to your first groups and select anyone in one of the groups (preferably the group leader but doesn't really matter). Select "Waypoints" on the right pane then move to where the opfor groups are and double click. From the display screen choose either "move" or "Search and destroy" then click ok. Do the same for the other 2 opfor groups. Initially you may think it to be straight forward but both teams will flank and carry out crazy tactics. This will give you a basic look at how you can create simple missions that are extremely time consuming and fun.

    Is arma ... fun?

Not to rehash too much on what's already been said, but just try out the singleplayer scenarios, borrow a friends joystick for flying (it's 100x better) and give it a full go. It gets a lot more fun once you get into the mentality and tactics of the game, but if that doesn't interest you then it probably won't grow on you. But the feeling of carrying out some strong tactics and surviving an onslaught is like the intensity you get from a good action FPS coupled with the rush of getting in the zone of a chaotic RTS. The game really does grow on you if you let it.
  23. Before you do anything mod wise, I'd suggest downloading some singleplayer missions and having a few games of warfare. Give it at least a few hours to fully test and if you don't like it after that then no mod is going to get your liking the game, but if you're starting to catch on after that then start using mods and see how you go.

    ArmA2 crash to desktop

As long as you've disabled all mods then try downloading the latest beta patch (look in the beta section of the forums). That fixes several crash issues.

Rifle, I think what they're getting at is that it's likely a conflict between several audio sources. What this means is that if your headphones have audio drivers built into them (and it's likely they do if they're USB) then you have to disable any other audio card/source, including built in audio like Realtek or AC97'. If you don't have an audio card manually installed in your PCI or PCIe slots (usually creative soundblaster/x-fi, or something like that) then you can either : -Go into BIOS and look for integrated Audio, AC97 audio, or realtek audio and disable it or; -Go into device manager and look under "Sound, video and game controllers" and disable any audio device that isn't related to your headset audio drivers. Google (or check your motherboard manual) to find out all the steps on how to do this if you need help. As a side note, Windows 7 supports different audio devices active at one time, although it usually needs a default device specified. All other versions of windows suffer from more than one audio device and will have issues, so always make sure that only one device is present.
